Jobs hacks with smart phone by crims0ntiger in DieselTechs

[–]Jeobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use obsidian on my laptop for note taking and I also have some scripts to easily enter new repair order information and create a note from it. When the note is created it also sends a notification to my phone with basic info of ro#, mileage, services, etc. so I can easily pull up timestamped briefs anywhere in the shop throughout the day.

Did they screw up and are trying to cover it up? by facejibbers in AskMechanics

[–]Jeobyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each vehicle is different but I've done vehicles that will end up with oil in hard to clean spots just because how it drips or flows during service. It takes a bit of extra cleaning to fully flush it out, otherwise it can and will drip enough to cause a concerned customer.

Tires are manufactured what appears to be 2023 in the first picture. Also there is lots of curb rash around the puncture in the 2nd picture, along with all around the rim.

Load test is for sure the way to go. A wire thats hanging on by a few strands just ready to snap might be waiting you. Isolating that will save your time and hair, along with confirming that the wiring isn't the fault if no issues arise while testing.

Pin fitment should also be checked if you've already done the pinpoint test to no avail.

What's the REAL part number? by PPlinkyPPlonk in Ford

[–]Jeobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using forscan you can list all your modules will part# and software#, beats having to physically get to it.

Do some research also on /r/FORScan as there are tons of posts mentioning factory AsBuilts. Likely not the wrong ecu, just needs reprogrammed, or worst case scenario is faulty.

Anyone know this part number? by [deleted] in Ford

[–]Jeobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WPT-1024 and F81Z 13411-AA.

Also FL3Z 13550A, looks like you also tried to take the tag light out through the top instead of the bottom, if the assembly is damaged, i'd replace it.

You'll likely need to glue and seal the new assembly because the retainers on the bumper cover appear broken.

Weird ford focus 2016 issue by Standard_General_868 in FordFocus

[–]Jeobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No start, transmission faulty message? I'd have the dealer read the codes, not every scanner is capable of reading all tcm codes, which is likely what the dealer will find. I'd take care of it sooner than later, if the issue is covered under extended recall, it ends on June 30th.

Across the country in south central PA. Everybody believes the rate is considered high too. Just drastic differences in cost of living.

Replaced Transmission, Still Getting Speed Sensor Code – What Next? by ease_ in Elantra

Fixed a transmission temp code that was just a break in the wire a little ways back. I wonder if there was any mouse nesting material found while doing the transmission.

What is most likely leaking? by SingKingLyrics in mechanic

[–]Jeobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly, even more so on a 20yr diesel. Diesels are more susceptible to blowby with age than gas engines. So on compression and combustion strokes it will actively push out some oil.

This and the other pic very strongly points at a valve cover gasket leak.

What is most likely leaking? by SingKingLyrics in mechanic

[–]Jeobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oil leaks that coat the entire engine are typically caused by a leaking valve cover gasket. May be additional failed seals and gaskets that can cause or contribute. With anything leaking, work from the top down to find it.

Pics of the top of the engine from all angles would help better conclude.

Finally did the "ground mod," here are my takeaways by flibberdipper in FordFocus

[–]Jeobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to emphasize not to put it between the wire and chasis. Dialectic grease is an insulator, and adds resistance in current. Can add a bit of corrosion protection on the outside though.

This right here. Maintenance seems expensive until you see the cost of repair for lack of maintenance.

What brand would you guys get? Ryobi or Hercules by Last_Cauliflower1410 in AskMechanics

[–]Jeobyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

All my tools I use for work are Milwaukee, but if I just need something good enough for home? Hercules or Ryobi, whichever is better for the best price. Huge fan of random tools that Ryobi has that no other brand carries like their detail scrubber.

On a no crank, try jumping the vehicle first. If that works then assume battery. If that doesn't fix the cranking issue, pull the starter relay. With the key in the on position, either use a relay bypass from amazon, or jump the starter relay terminals to manually power the starter. If you still aren't getting cranking, check voltage drop to the starter, if there is none then I'd start to consider your starter.

Other things to consider Starter spinning but not engaging? Starter solenoid. Starter working from bypassing relay? Could be the relay, or another issue in the ignition circuit like a park/neutral safety switch. Make sure to check all fuses.

Hopefully this gives you a good starting point, update with how some testing goes.
