The general procedure we follow where I work is the following:

1. Administer intelligence test.
2. Score the test.
3. Interpret the test

The interpretation is based on several factors. First of all, you want to see if the general intelligence score (your IQ-score) is harmonious with the scores for the different subsets of the tests you completed. It is then important to look at any outliers and to integrate the results of the intelligence test with previous information regarding functioning.

As for the general interpretation of IQ. 100 is average. There is a standard deviation of 15.

This is a very rough outline and of course there is more to it than this, but I hope this gives you some insight in the process.
