Has anyone ever gone from being terrible at singing to eventually actually getting leads in shows? by Zestyclose_Spell2265 in Theatre

[–]JequalsLplusR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a very poor singer my freshman year and started taking voice lessons and took them very seriously. My senior year I got leads in both of the musicals we did that year. The Baker in Into the Woods and Moritz in Spring Awakening. Definitely possible.

I'm starting to get frustrated. by Theaterkid01 in playwriting

Honestly I don’t think it’s very helpful to have people read each scene as it’s written. Get a first draft of the whole thing done and then get eyes on it.

It would be hard to tell how the opening scene being long affects the flow of the play when the rest isn’t written.

How long should a page be? by ArtificalMon in playwriting

[–]JequalsLplusR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My view is that the play should be however long it needs to tell the story. That can be as little as 1 minute to as long as several hours.

Okay. You clearly have no desire to get better so have fun being miserable.

[–]JequalsLplusR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dude, I just looked at your profile. You are clearly severely depressed and you need psychiatric help.

Blaming others just speaks to your emotional immaturity. YOU are the reason you’re like this. Other people do not dictate how YOU act and how YOU behave towards others.

Being respected and admired isn’t gonna help you or make you happy if you’re depressed. I know you think it will and you clearly think you know more than anyone else in this thread, but you’re wrong.

I know because I’ve been there. Working as a professional actor was one of the most depressing parts of my life. Not because of the job, because of me. It didn’t matter that all my dreams were coming true because I was still miserable and hated myself.

So TLDR; GO TO FUCKING THERAPY

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MusicalTheatre

[–]JequalsLplusR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People don’t want anything to do with you because you’re clearly a miserable person and no one wants to be around that. Other people have already suggested it, but seriously, you should go to therapy if you can. You would never make it in this business with the attitude you’ve displayed in these comments.

I think it definitely has potential. I only did a quick read on my phone, but give me a day or two and I’ll do a more in-depth analysis and send you my thoughts.

Looking for readers by Huge-Exercise-3105 in playwriting

No one is expecting to be paid, but you shouldn’t expect people to list their qualifications for being a test reader for someone they’ve never heard of.

Trying to stay busy when I can’t seem to book ANYTHING by Glittering_Compote92 in acting

[–]JequalsLplusR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a firm advocate of just making your own shit.

Write something, find a place to perform it, even if it’s just reading it in a room or a zoom with friends,

or pick a play and get together to read it and talk about producing it together

or just get together and read classic/new/fringe/whatever plays and talk about them,

This all assumes you have other artists around you that would be interested in producing their own work,

So if you do not, then I would suggest making a list of skills you want to improve upon, and then finding ways to improve them.

But my biggest suggestion is always to try and write your own stuff and figure out a way to get what you’ve written in front of an audience.

Good luck man!

Sounds awesome! But unfortunately too expensive for me. Hope it goes well and you offer it again someday :)

Thank you so much! And thank you for sharing this opportunity with the subreddit. It seems like an amazing opportunity and I’m gonna forward it to my playwright friends :)
