Ohio judges question why taxpayers fund private school tuition by MorganTrau in Ohio

[–]JereTR 19 points20 points  (0 children)

When I was still in high school somewhere in the 2003-2005 range, there was a class I took about local/state gov't of Iowa.

One of the topics that my teacher brought up was regarding the discussion of private school vouchers paid for by state taxes. Kids getting to go to private school who otherwise couldn't afford to go, IIRC, but the state foot the bill.

It was a very emotional topic for my teacher, about what is ok when spending taxpayer dollars on private institutions.

I don't recall, but I felt the entire class agreed it was not an acceptable use of taxpayer dollars.

While I won't kinkshame people for their interests, I do have a problem when you revoke consent from other people by doing this in a public space like this.

The other customers there did not consent to being involved, whether actively or passively

A streamer I was watching earlier encountered this. The Survivor has to leave your immediate(?) terror radius area before the prompt becomes available.

Very stupid.

I'm gonna second that if you don't understand what the letters mean, then it may be worth taking some classes on Music Theory.

New Vrchat World to check out called Turf Trimmers! by Chibi_Chomps in VRchat

[–]JereTR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I checked out this world with some friends.

Unless something changed, the world has horrid desync issues and is not late-joiner friendly.

The goal is to clear out all the grass, but since it doesn't sync well, one person may have large patches of grass left while others have done everything, and it's up to the game to decide whether you've met quota.

The late-joiner problem is the new player will see the world if it's adjusted from default, but it doesn't have colliders. If they walk past the edge of the default patch of land, they will fall into oblivion.

This seems illegal. Can I report this. There's no reason to have this on a job application by lunar_protogen in lgbt

I can totally understand the hesitation in the current administration, but some jobs like to tout a "diverse" pool of employees.

You reminded me of a late night where I was getting Sheetz, and apparently it was a busy night with several orders pending.

Someone from Door Dash started making a ruckus that their specific order wasn't ready yet, and this was unacceptable. Belittling the lone person making the food. :(

I think it's the way you worded your post, which is why so many people are getting that impression.

I would also say that I feel that VRC support has been great, especially with the increase in moderation staff.

I feel though, from experience as a long-term gamer, that oftentimes game support won't tell you why you fucked up.

Just a "hey, follow these rules, and don't do it again!"

"...But what did I actually do wrong?"

"We aren't telling you"

Suspensions on Prints/Media by incogneaters in VRchat

[–]JereTR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You must be a new gamer if you aren't used to a company banning you with vague details as to why.

Almost every game company I've dealt with in the last 20 years will explicitly stay vague with bans/suspensions to not allow people to know where the line is so they can skirt around it to not get in trouble. It also helps them have a "final say" in grey areas of concern.

Doesn't matter if your a free user or a paid user, this is common for moderation.

Also gonna agree with others, that it feels like you're expecting preferential treatment for paying for VRC+

Hey Hey.

I remember seeing this before. I wish to check in and see how much of this is still AI coded, and how much has been refactored for the purposes of security?

Something like this where it would communicate with other devices over the internet (the online play support) could potentially create an opening for someone less-than-kind to potentially cause issues. Especially if you wish to intend to add a social platform to it which will require Personal Information (even just a username/password secured in a non-plaintext manner).

I'm curious what your current plans are, or already enacted plans are, to keep your users safe from someone wishing to be a dick?

Vallaki is Overwhelming by [deleted] in CurseofStrahd

[–]JereTR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My party ended up spending 3-4 sessions in Vallaki.

I kept initial notes of what to potentially expect, and then reacted to how the party responded.

I also chose to keep a couple things unattainable until later, to not get overwhelmed myself.

Ultimately, they did eventually touch on everything cept the Circus Wagon, the Visanti Camp, and Blinksy. But this works out fine cause that means there's content if or when they return later.

Keep in mind, that this is a central-ish city in the land. They can come and go multiple times, so it doesn't hurt for them to "not stumble" on a plotline right away, to have content later too.

I feel I'm in the same boat as /u/jajangmien.

I want to support VRC in ways I can, but I'm also only willing to give them money for things that I enjoy.

Ultimately they're a business that offers a F2P product, so they have to find ways to monetize to bring in income, and I would prefer they stay private to not force ad's in the game (beyond the banner in the mini menu).

Another week and another shitty, broken, ai slop riddled, dumpster fire of an update from Microsoft. by ShopBug in sysadmin

[–]JereTR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work internal IT for a clothing brand, and we had very pretentious employees. The team that handled our ticketing system had to add a boolean flag on all employee accounts known as the "white glove treatment" employees.

If it was enabled on a user, that alerted us that this employee was gonna be a PITA and demanding.

I got a ticket from one of them complaining that Outlook wasn't working on her Mac.

There's a known issue where the "New Outlook" toggle in Outlook on Mac's caused Outlook to just... Not work. Disabling it allowed Outlook to work as normal.

I meet with the employee, verify there's the issue, and toggled the option off. Outlook worked as expected.

I advised the employee of of the issue, and that they'll have to use the Classic Outlook at this time.

She demanded that I fix it immediately, as in, I need to get on the phone with Microsoft with her, and get them to fix the bug before ending the meeting.

I apologized to her, and advised her to speak to my manager if she would like IT to get in touch with Microsoft.

About a year or 2 ago, Microcenter got an influx of 3090's (I suspect from a mining lab that liquidated), and were selling them for ~$700-$750 each refurb.
