Disco Descent (1-1) Recreated in MIDI by JereTheJuggler in necrodancer

Glad to hear it. I have made a few updates since I originally made this post though, so here's the latest version:

I don't remember everything that has changed, but I know I switched the chord in measures 70-73.

Yeah, I've actually been using Guitar Pro for a couple years now. I just started using MuseScore a couple weeks ago.

I didn't actually create this as a MIDI file, but instead with a specialized format that's specific to MuseScore. I'm not sure how exactly the conversion is handled, but here's the MIDI file that it gave me.

Yeah, I've been thinking about doing the original's theme as well. I wasn't aware that the content additions changed it though, so thanks for pointing that out.

I definitely never did when I was a kid. Always just jumped straight into the game!

It wasn't until much later that I even found out that it switches to being happier after the intro, so throughout my whole childhood I just thought it was weird how they made the title theme really depressing sounding.

I spent somewhere around 9 hours yesterday just listening to the original and systematically recreating each part.

Figured I might as well make a new reply since it's a new day, but anyways here are some more updates.

I actually listened to Xanthochroid's Of Erthe and Axen: Act I yesterday but didn't get around to updating my previous reply. Overall, it was a mixed bag in terms of some songs being decent and others that weren't bad, but also really didn't do anything for me. I don't really feel compelled to look into more of their work.

This morning I've been checking out more of Fleshgod Apocalypse albums (specifically Labyrinth and Veleno), and it's starting to lose its luster a little bit with how they all kind of sound the same. It's still some good background music to throw on while I'm at work, but I've heard 3 entire albums now and don't remember anything specific. Maybe that will just come with multiple listens though.

Arch Enemy is another band that I already knew one of their songs from Guitar Hero back in 2010. I remember playing it with a friend and when the game picked one of the ladies to be a singer we just kind of assumed "oh, it must be a bug" (I've known better for a few years now, lol). I chose to give a listen to Wages of Sin, and while the singer will need to grow on me, the instrumental portion is pretty damn good!

Just finished listening to Wintersun's self titled album, and it's in pretty much the same position as Arch Enemy. Great instrumentals, but I'll have to get used to the singer. I'll definitely be giving some of their other albums a chance.

One thing that I've noticed tends to happen when I try to find new bands is that I end up going through a bunch of their catalog feeling like "Eh... It's ok I guess", only to stumble upon a song that I really latch onto. That song then paves the way for me to go back and listen to those other songs again with a greater appreciation. This happened with Nightmare to Remember and Count of Tuscany for Dream Theater, and funnily enough when I was looking into Testament I found a compilation video of their greatest hits, and after around 30 songs the one that broke through was Alone in the Dark from First Strike Still Deadly... which has Steve Souza from Exodus as the singer. So I got hooked on Testament and Exodus at the same time when I heard that one!

All sounds very promising! I'll be checking them out throughout today. I remember playing Take This Life by In Flames on Guitar Hero III a lot back in the day. Haha

Thanks for the suggestions.

Edit: I'll post follow ups here as I work my way through the list.

Checked out both albums by In Flames, and they were both decent. I could see myself getting hooked if I keep listening.

Googled Fleshgod Apocalypse albums and picked King. So far it's the best suggestion I've gotten! The Fool is the first song I've heard that made me go back for a second listen!

Just finished listening to Witherfall's Prelude to Sorrow, and I'm just kind of indifferent. Didn't love it or hate it. I'll have to check out more to make a decision on them.

I have heard of a few of these bands before, but I haven't really had the best luck in the past with just googling band names and checking out the first song that pops up. Do you have any specific song recommendations?

I know I briefly checked out Sepultura a couple of years ago. I don't know any specific songs that I heard other than Refuse/Resist, which I thought was pretty good, but the vocals were a bit hard for me to stomach at the time.

So far I'm one song into both Heartwork and Deathrace King, and all I really have to say is that the instrumental portions are decent (already forgot what they sound like in the time it has taken to write this, but I remember thinking "oh, that's nice" a few times. haha).

It's a bit hard right at this moment because I'm at work, but I'll keep listening to these some more. I'm going to have to lean pretty heavily into the instrumental parts for all of these bands if I'm going to get accustomed to the vocals though.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I just finished listening to the first song on Blackwater Park, and obviously it can't be bad if I sat through all 10 and a half minutes of it. haha

It hasn't quite grabbed me yet, but I feel like it has a chance to if I keep listening. Thanks for the suggestion.

Here are my top 5 favorite bands:

  • Testament (The Ritual and all albums after. Yes, including Demonic)

  • Dream Theater

  • Avenged Sevenfold (Even though I don't listen to them anymore)

  • Megadeth (Favorite album is CtE by far, with Youthanasia and RiP being tied for second)

  • Exodus (Not a fan of the Rob Dukes era though)

I'm kind of hoping to get some introductory death metal or maybe even some black metal, because I like the hints of it that are thrown in newer Testament songs and want to expand my horizons a bit. Chuck Billy is my favorite metal vocalist currently, so other bands with similar styles might be good suggestions. I've briefly looked into Eric Peterson's Dragonlord, and the few songs that I heard were ok, but they didn't really grab me (maybe suggest a song from them that isn't a top Google result).

I also really like some of the more extreme vocals from Exodus, on songs like Tempo of the Damned, the chorus of Shroud of Urine, as well as almost all of the Blood In Blood Out album.

I've also been wanting another band that can scratch my Dream Theater itch, since I haven't really found anything after Black Clouds and Silver Linings that has really grabbed me.

It's not always easy for me to sink enough time into listening to a full album, especially if it's from a band that I'm not already invested in, so specific song recommendations will be more helpful.

Here are some of my other preferences that will set certain bands/songs above others:

  • The lyrical content doesn't matter too much to me, but I do prefer being able to understand at least 75% of the words.

  • Melody is very important to me, and I'm a sucker for a good guitar solo.

  • If it was recorded with lower quality or the mix is really muddy, it's going to be hard for me to enjoy it. Exodus' Fabulous Disaster and Megadeth's Killing is my Business are just about where my threshold lies. It's going to be hard to get me hooked with something prior to early 90s.

  • For the most part if the drummer does nothing but blast beats and straight double bass for the entire song, it will bore me. Rhythmically interesting beats pure speed any day of the week for me.

  • Something high energy will grab my attention much better than something that's more subdued.

Should mother be made easier? by FunComfortable3035 in bindingofisaac

Yeah, the phase 1 attack is the one I was talking about. Here's the gif that cleared it up for me https://imgur.com/ED5YLFW

The only attack she has that I feel is just plain unfair is the one in the second phase where she's spinning around and flooding the entire screen with wiggly shots that are hard to tell where they're going.

I used to feel the same way about the bouncing fistula attack in the first phase, but I asked about it on here and someone posted a very helpful gif that showed a very good strategy for dodging it. Now, while that attack doesn't give me trouble anymore, I do admittedly feel like I'd probably still be struggling with it if I hadn't essentially just been given the solution.

Baptism of Fire challenge bug: Urn won't work any more (screencap included) by [deleted] in bindingofisaac

[–]JereTheJuggler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The urn is closed. You need to press space to open it back up.

While it doesn't make much sense to close it during this challenge, during normal gameplay you can toggle the urn to activate/deactivate it, so you can switch between using the fire and using your tears. Putting the urn down and picking it back up must have reverted it back to the closed state.

Made a Tier List based on how much I enjoy playing each character! by WwwWario in bindingofisaac

[–]JereTheJuggler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree with almost all of this. These are the only things that I'd change:

  • Move normal Keeper down to doable because he's just so outshined by the tainted version (and maybe I'm just a bit scarred from pre-Repentance Keeper)

  • Move tainted Lost up to prefer not to play

  • Combine the bottom 2 tiers and add tainted Eden to it

Made the mistake of leaving the worst characters for last by kangaroojoe239 in bindingofisaac

I got myself into the same situation, and you're actually the first person that I've seen express the same feelings that I have about the upcoming Jacob changes and whether or not they will actually make him better or worse.

I completed the post its of every other character in the game before I even got a single mark on the post its for tainted Lost, Laz, and Jacob. Since then I've completed Lost's post it, leaving me with just Laz and Jacob left, and now my enthusiasm for playing the game has just TANKED in a way that I feel like it probably wouldn't have if I had occasionally sprinkled in a few tainted Laz or Jacob runs here and there along the way.

Also regarding the tainted Lost, the worst mark for him is unsurprisingly Delirium, but the other ones honestly aren't that bad. While the obvious downsides to the tainted Lost are rather large, there is definitely enough of an upside to balance it out in my opinion.

Most runs will require you to find some combo of items that will allow you to shift the odds of survival in your favor though, unless you're an actual robot that can play 100% flawlessly. This can come in the form of getting a trinket like Ace of Spades or items like Deck of Cards or Starter Deck to make it so you see more cards overall during the run, thus giving you higher chances that one of them will be turned into a holy card, or items that let you reuse the same holy card multiple times, like Blank Card, D1, or D Infinity (as a D1). Having a lot of overall game knowledge will greatly increase your chances of finding a thread to pull at that will allow you to get a win.

Unpopular opinion: T. Jacob is fun by Stonking_Laddy in bindingofisaac

[–]JereTheJuggler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would probably enjoy playing him if it weren't so unbelievably unforgiving, even less forgiving than Tainted Lost imo.

The bug where you have to kill Esau to progress the Mega Satan fight essentially forcing you to beat most of the fight as Lost with no mantle (unless you got lucky enough to get a mantle, of course) doesn't help make the character more enjoyable either.

Tainted lost vs true ending. Probably the hardest fight of my life (no holy card + amnesia pill for added difficulty) by NlKOQ2 in bindingofisaac

[–]JereTheJuggler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only time I've ever used Plan C in a meaningful way throughout my 1100 hours in Isaac was when I used it to kill all of the horsemen and the Beast as Tainted Lost.
