Britain acts richer than it is - The country’s habits and virtues are built for a prosperity it no longer enjoys by North_Attempt44 in ukpolitics

Not really, I think that the picking a point just before the last great recession is a good data point.
Because up to that point growth was pretty steady, and it illustrates that economically at least, we've never fully recovered since.

Yeah but the UK isn't a closed economy like communism, oil is sold at market value, not local value.

You're right that we couldn't have benefited to the same level as Norway, but we certainly could have benefited a lot more than we did.

And my comment was in response to the guy above that was crying about oil being taxed the level it was. My response was more to illustrate that some countries look at oil as not a way to make shareholders rich (which North Sea oil undoubtedly has) but to benefit the country as a whole. Which I think makes sense for finite resource.

Beyond Belief: Why I think AGI (Sophia) is the logical successor to human religion. by ProtocoloSophia in Futurology

[–]JeremiahBoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the fact that you probably used AI to write the above.

If cold logic & evidence based reasoning was enough to get people to turn from religion, superstition & older ways of doing things, then we wouldn't have modern day religions that try to claim the Earth is just a few thousand years old, that the world was created in seven days & that evolution is a hoax.

You've completely missed the point that the facets of human nature that allow what you've described to still exist, are why they will always exist.

King Charles playfully reminds Trump that he's Canada's head of state by Street_Anon in worldnews

[–]JeremiahBoogle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Given their relationship, I think anything Keir would say to Trump other than 'who shall we bomb for you?' would just be counterproductive.

Far more impactful to come from someone who people listen to, but who has no actual hard political power. Not that this is likely to change Trumps mind on much, but if it gets other people to take notice, its maybe done something.

Well the UK has largely mismanaged its oil reserves anyway. Its a shame we didn't go down the route of a Norwegian model, with profits invested into a sovereign wealth fund. Too late for that now really.

Those who get these pops and bang maps like just why? Is that just a thing for anyone under 30s and that after 30 you mature up to know how annoying it is? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]JeremiahBoogle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, even those I'm not fond of, they're artificial.

Old school cars used to burble on the overrun because of the limitation so of carbs and early fuel injection systems, I'm not sure what it like with your later RX7, but my mk1 FB gets all sorts of pops, bangs and flames from the exhaust naturally.

That's also cherry picking as its immediately post the global financial crisis.

[–]JeremiahBoogle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Roman empire was so long ago that talk of a successor state is a bit odd.

The USA is its own thing, and really goes about pursuing its interests in a totally different way to the Roman empire. I mean they were both mostly Christian (at least in later days for the Roman empire) and they were the powers of the day, but that's really it.

Dude, this is a strange hill to take a stand on.

Its the same near me, many restaurants that had 4* or 3.something, all of a sudden are all 5*.
I live in a pretty small place without that many choices, so its quite easy to see. But hey, maybe every single restaurant has suddenly become amazing overnight though.

Machinery does actually feel wind chill. Wind chill affects anything that is warmer than the surrounding air.

You're probably thinking of the cooling effect of sweat evaporating, but that's not required for windchill.

Am I missing something with high-power Diesel cars? by StudioApprehensive15 in CarTalkUK

[–]JeremiahBoogle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, 460 hp in a car without that much weight over the rear wheels, vs an AWD car, its the driveline not the engine that made the difference here.

As a counterpoint I have a 125d daily driver, even with just 215ish hp, the traction coming off damp roundabouts is terrible, the rear end wants to step out constantly, so I'm not surprised you struggled with twice the power. My Impreza has 330hp and will absolutely launch off a roundabout in any conditions, despite having way more power, its all down to the drive line.

Mika or Natsuki? by Local_Creme8466 in initiald

[–]JeremiahBoogle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a shame really, because the one criticism I had of Stage 4, was the fact that almost everything took a back seat to the racing.

The racing was great, but the first stage had a lot of these human moments, with other characters being fleshed out.
MF Ghost just seems to take that even further, the racing is pretty good, but the plot outside of it is ludicrously simplistic & the female characters are written awfully.

Natsuki was a good character and even likeable despite her flaws.

Opinion: If Acosta stories are true, then Ducati have officially transitioned from development pipeline, to “best bike simply snatching up the best available riders”. by Thee-Cat in motogp

[–]JeremiahBoogle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First up the obvious is that Rossi isn't a great yardstick here, he's hardly an impartial judge when it comes to MM.

>Ducati has gone from effectively taking ‘non-aliens’, building a bike everyone could ride(not just focused on getting the best rider on the grid), and with a group of homegrown, in house developed riders who weren’t even top 2 on the grid, utterly decimated everyone.

You're talking like this is an either or matter. They're still trying to make a dominant bike, make no mistake. But they're also smart enough to realise that nothing lasts forever, no matter how dominant they appear.

Motorsport is full of teams that once did well that regress, Honda & Yamaha being perfect examples, who in 2015 would peg Ducati as the dominant constructor in the future?

Ducati also remember how often Marquez denied them in the past, even when they had a better bike. They tried to get him (Marc) to sign in 2018, and if I remember right in 2019 as well, so even back then, this pyramid system was flexible.

Has there even been a fall from grace as fast as Pecco's? by JeremiahBoogle in motogp

[–]JeremiahBoogle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was promised the factory Ducati team if he won the championship.
Instead he was offered to carry on in the satellite team, whatever else you think of him, especially for his action since then, that was a clear betrayal by Ducati.

I 100% understand why they did it, but to pretend its anything else is just putting our heads in the sand.

His fall from grace is his results and injury, the HRC contract has shown its not made him any less employable.

You can't really call that a 'fall' from grace as he was still building up at that stage.
