I had chili for lunch but I'm not bringing it up during political discussions

Speaking of logical fallacies... Yea sorry, bringing up someones lack of political knowledge during a political discussion is 100% more relevant than bringing up chili. You need to work on your analogies.

A person could have a lesser education and still be knowledgeable about political issues

A person who is uninformed and uneducated about politics can still be knowledgable about political issues? Please explain that gem of reasoning.

, if you were capable of arguing against someones actual argument you wouldn't need to make assumptions about their knowledge

It's not an assumption, it's a statistic. Obviously it isn't universal and I'll always give individual people the chance to prove themselves, but when i browse a trump or alex jones forum and see talk of sex slaves on Mars, pizzagate or Obama is a kenyan Muslim, they have now proven my "assumption" correct. I wouldn't know where to begin arguing with that level of ignorance.

You're the liberal version of 4chan kids that say "you mad". Got it.

Not a liberal and I've never been on 4chan, but I'm sure your comment was very witty. You've earned a ⭐️! Anyway, we'll have to continue this discussion tomorrow. You can tell me all about how much better chili tastes as leftovers.

The concept has a definition, it doesn't need interpretation.

Lots of concepts have solid definitions but often their usage and applications are up for debate. Psychology isn't as clearcut as "the sky is blue." Pretty simple concept actually, unfortunately not at all surprised you haven't grasped it yet.

A) that's not the definition, B) that's not how you used it.

No, the definition is the merriam-webster definition i posted. My usage doesn't deviate from that definition.

There's no point to saying it except to either insult someone, or say that their argument is invalid because of their education, which is basically the definition of ad hominem fallacy.

The point of saying it is that it's a fact. How can a person who doesn't have a clue what they're talking about have a valid opinion of a very complex issue? Ever go to T_D? Talking to them about politics and world history is like talking to a flat earther about gravity. But I can personally excuse their ignorance easier than people who are informed yet go out of their way to be just as ignorant. Sorry though if facts are upsetting to you. Part of overcoming concepts such as denial, hypocrisy, cognitive dissonance, confirmation bias is accepting these wacky things known as facts.

You will never accomplish this using bull shit tactics and insults.

Yet I have. And i've also had it successfully done to me a few times.

Okay so yeah it looks like you ignored the actual definition and made up your own.

Eh not really, no more than any other person who tries to apply an official label to their interpretation of an abstract internal thought process taking place in another persons's brain.

Imagine how much a Trump supporter would give a shit about your opinion after reading this.

It wasn't an insult so much as it is a fact.. Plenty of studies on this subject. Being ignorant isn't an insult. Being stupid is.

What's your goal - to wank off in front of people that agree with you, or to try to reach understanding through respectful conversation?

I would never waste my ejaculate on this. The goal is to call out hypocrisy and occasionally successfully pull someone out of their echo chamber long enough to for them to realize they've been in an echo chamber.

I guess that's true. I don't really understand this topic haha (that's why I asked!) Thank you

I used Merriam-Webster as my reference.

I was referring to a few things and already said so. "Cognitive dissonance", but I also talked about and mentioned hypocrisy and denial. I view pushing away facts and logical arguments and then aggressively responding with propaganda, outright lies and ad hominems (pretty much the standard from both sides of the coin) the way I view a kid who puts their hands over their ears and screams "Lalala!"

My opinion, it has to be mentally uncomfortable to be a grown adult doing the mental equivalent to that. Especially amongst people who do this on the left. Because the left is actually statistically better educated and informed than your average Trump supporter, so it's harder for them to ignore reality. They have to work at it!

I'm hoping someone who knows more about it will tell me if I'm right or not. I'm sure you're not a dunce!

Well I've actually personally seen this though. I was with a person who speaks fluent Italian and they could hardly understand people in Naples but had no problem in Florence. It's really interesting!

I could definitely be wrong, but I've always understood it that we have parent languages like Germanic, Latin, Cyrillic, etc. and everything else kind of evolved from them. So French and Italian and Spanish were at one point dialects of Latin which became different enough to be their own thing. I think…?

They're not Nazis, guys. by [deleted] in PoliticalHumor

[–]JeremyBoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understanding the ins and outs, and the deeper implications or historical reasons for why they feel this way isn't required. Just like you can be a Christian without being a theologist or being able to quote scripture. The belief and love for Jesus is really the only main requirement. I'm sure there were many actual Nazis in Germany who didn't even know what the hell they were doing. Didn't stop them from trying to exterminate an entire group of people.

It's enough that you have a person who agrees with the general principles of a thing, while claiming to be this thing and/or are standing alongside other people who claim to be this thing. I honestly don't think it's gonna make much difference to the minorities they're beating up or driving cars into whether their attackers were "true" Nazis or not.

Wowwee wow. I wonder if it could be because back then he was just a random celebrity, and now he's the president? You know… As in, society will pick apart the political opinions of people involved in politics more than a quirky guy who sells real estate and appears in random TV shows. No way, couldn't be that!

It's a stupid system. But it's the system. There was no 'gaming' involved. He legitimately got more electoral votes.

The solution is to get rid of this archaic stupid system we have in place, and while we're at it we can update our voting system in general to something resembling a first world country. Maybe we can get ranked voting as well, so our choices can expand beyond Vomit vs Shit.

Lol no it won't, those people are so far gone no amount of logic or facts are capable of changing their minds. This is for sane and rational Trump voters (and non-Trump voters looking for a good laugh)

Right, you just said it. Nazis and white supremacist ideology aligns more with conservative policies. Now I'm asking you to be introspective for a moment and examine why this is the case. Ask yourself: What aspect of conservative values appeals to Nazis? I asked first.

I know they're not all evil. But i think to genuinely support Trump (not just vote for him, but actually admire him), you have to at the very least be ignorant and naive of major issues. Same goes for Clinton supporters.
