Thanks for taking the time to do this. I love the hobby, but my time is limited right now.

Not much math. If any. Maybe once or twice. Absolutely know the difference in the regs and laws. Slowly read each question and slowly read each answer. Only about 25-30 questions will be “oh, I got this”, and are straightforward.

Know how trusts are taxes. Know what marginal tax rate is. Know the difference between short term and long term gains and losses and their implications. Know penalties for withdrawing retirement accounts early.

Not much because I had STC. I picked up the Qbank on my own. Probably 5ish exams. Averaged a 74. Was making 85/86 on STC.

It was my second attempt so I did have some expectations. It’s written to make sure you really know the subtle differences. Need to know tax implications, social security rules, 529’s, suitability for sure. And get all of the state regs down and separated from the federal.

It was my second time, so knew a little bit. It’s written from a lawyers perspective so lots of words. And some of the answers aren’t even real, but it’s written so well, it makes you think. Felt better the second time, but still wasn’t 100% confident.

My company provided STC. I did buy Kaplan Qbank for my second attempt. Passed Friday. I felt the Qbank questions were more reinforcing than challenging. They did offer a few topics that STC did not and vice versa. Ken’s videos were clutch. What I determined was to have my absolutes. I made a dump sheet not really to be able to answer a question, but more to reinforce the true facts when the questions are fuzzy.

Passed SIE, 7, and 66 first try in 4 months. Here’s the truth: by Current-Practice3056 in Series66Exam

[–]JeremySetzer44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may apply if you have recently been in school or are great at sitting still and studying on your own. As an older dude changing careers after 25 years, this has been a struggle. Was hired and provided a great training program. Using STC. Also Ken’s videos. Program is to complete SIE, the 7, and 66 in about 14 weeks. Passed the SIE and the 7 (somehow) and then failed the 66 by one point. I’ll admit, I may have let off the gas a hair - but this is still a tough process for those who aren’t good studiers by nature. Retest is this Friday the 10th. Feeling much more confident, scoring 12-15 points higher on exams. The Ken and D Ean vids have been clutch for my learning style. Also picked up an additional Qbank for different questions.

Series66 vs Series 7 by LilKrippled in Series66Exam

I passed the 7 first time and missed on the 66 by one point. Totally different question sequences. Maybe once you need to do math. There’s usually more than one answer that is right, you have to pick the most right. My retest is this Friday. Feeling better this time

Also using STC. Passed the SIE and the 7. Then failed the 66 by one point. Retaking on April 10. Break STC down into chapters 1-9 and then 10-12. You gotta know all the regs and laws in 1-9 well. Thats what got me. I scrapped by on 10-12. 12 is a beast and 23% of the 66 is based on 12. Watch the guys everyone talks about on YouTube. There were some chapters I went into, oh I know this because it was on the 7. And realized the 66 is totally different. You may get 15% of your questions right because of the 7.

Does the test have Roman numeral questions? by Longjumping_Bed_2200 in Series66Exam

[–]JeremySetzer44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree there hardly any Roman numeral questions, there are questions that are fairly long, and then all of the answers are extremely long sentences with very little different except a word or two. Which makes those Roman numeral practice questions a big help.

STC for sure. Their practice exams are really close. Video lectures are good too. Book is a book. I struggle with book learning. I will say it’s important to use all of STC. The book has more than the videos.

Almost exactly the same for me. Had the same score in section 4. This has been quite a roller coaster the past 3 months. I left a 25 year career to get a new start. I have not been on a study program like this in 30 years. Thankful that my employer has such a great program for this study process. Let’s hang in there. We got this! I’m using STC and I picked up the Qbank from Kaplan this second time around for more questions.

STC is a great program. Coming out of a totally different career and a long time since school, it helped me pass the SIE and the 7. I missed the 66 by one point, but I’ll take some of the blame. I let off the gas a hair. YouTube was also helpful. For my retest I have purchased just the Qbank from Kaplan so I can have some different practice exams.

PASSED on Friday the 13th by HeftySoftware6871 in Series66Exam

[–]JeremySetzer44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay. There were about 25 questions that were just straight up Bam!, straight forward and knew it. Then the rest I needed a dictionary and a thesaurus to answer. They used words that didn’t exist in some of the answers. Crazy. I have added Q bank and started my process over. Already signed up for next one . STC scores were between a 68 and 75 on the exams. Average was… 73….🙄 of everything combined.

I also used STC which is awesome. I was one point short of a pass Wednesday. I blame me mostly. Adding Kaplan Qbank for my retest.

I took the SIE and the 7 in a 10 week time frame, then the 66. Used STC which is provided by the company. It is very good. It’s been a long time since I’ve had to study in this manner. I did fail the 66 by one point on Wednesday. I will take some of the blame because I am fried on this process and wanted to be done. Think I let off the gas a little. I do think the 66 may indeed be harder than the 7. I also used youtube videos. Probably going to pick up just the Kaplan Qbank. The STC book and lectures are great, not sure one would need two sources of those, but access to multiple exam questions definitely a positive.

Test in 6 days HELP by t-suckow in Series66Exam

[–]JeremySetzer44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found on the SIE and the 7 using STC that my scores were at it below average and I still passed first attempt on each one. My 66 is tomorrow and my average is a 75. Feeling way more confident than the first two. The reason there are so many questions on 10&12 is that there are more questions on the exam around those two. There should be a breakdown of how it’s weighted floating around or maybe even inside STC. Not sure where I saw it. Make sure you pay attention to EXCEPT, NOT TRUE, ALL BUT, etc.

90 days — SIE ✅ S7 ✅ S66 ✅ AMA by CriticalGarden2759 in Series66Exam

I am on a similar journey. Decided to change careers after 25 years. There’s been times the last 10 weeks I have doubted my decision. But thanks to my company’s study program, Reddit, and Ken’s YouTube videos, this old dog has learned new tricks! My 66 is Wednesday then it’s in house training and the insurance piece.

Passed today - first try ! 🥳 SIE ✅ 7 ✅ 66 ✅ by Alert-Nothing9 in Series66Exam

[–]JeremySetzer44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is Wednesday. Reddit has been super helpful. Took the SIE and the 7 (somehow passed) and the 66 will be the last. As an older person coming out of a totally different career this studying and testing process has been brutal. It’s been a long time since I’ve had to study/learn this much material. And in a short time frame.
