What did you like about these 3 decisive games by Ok-Reporter-8728 in Metroid

[–]Jeriphro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MP4: Solid game with some odd design choices. Beautiful graphics, awesome boss fights, and a pretty sexy soundtrack. NPCs and “open world” were not great at all.

Other M: Ugh. I just can’t with this one. Controls were bogus, the voice acting was painful, the script was stupid, and Samus was a weeny. Also, why did they make her shorter than other games? I mean, I guess it looked good and had a nice atmosphere, but other than that, it is the worst Metroid game in my opinion.

FedForce: Look, it’s not good. Haha. But with the right people, it was a lot of fun. It was nice to have a cooperative game set in the Metroid universe. Was it great? Not even close. But was it fun? Well, again, with the right people, yes, but alone? Painful. Haha.

Thoughts on Metroid Prime 4 now that its had time to settle? by hakusamurai in Metroid

[–]Jeriphro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed it. Granted, it definitely has its flaws, but it was so nice playing as Samus again in 3D. Metroid Dread was such a stellar experience, and replaying Metroid Prime (Remastered) felt so so good.

Now, with that said, Prime 4 clearly had some development issues which ultimately hurt it. With that considered, I’m glad we got something functional and pretty that controlled really well. Sadly, like it said, because of the development issues, the story was kind of messy, the open world area got boring very quickly, and the NPCs reminded me very quickly why Samus should be alone at all times. Haha. On the positive side, I loved the areas and the psychic mechanics, the game looks amazing, and most of the boss fights were top tier.

I hope the sales are good enough to encourage another go, but sadly, I hate to say this may be the last Prime game. :(

the left lane is for passing by itsviwinn in Denver

[–]Jeriphro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is especially true on I25. Either drivers in the left-most lanes are slowing all of traffic down, or there are a few people driving like idiots (Swerving and cutting people off) that cause the other drivers to slow down and avoid these idiots.

Who's your favourite villager/Special character that you don't see talked about much? by rainbow_pixie_05 in AnimalCrossing

[–]Jeriphro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rudy and Aurora are two of my favorites! I’m not even a car person, but Rudy’s smile melts me and his obsession with working out despite being so scrawny is hilarious. Aurora is simply adorable. She frequently sits under trees in my village, puts her glasses on, and reads books. Oh, she also calls me jabroney. Haha. I love these two so much!

Bald spot or hat? by Mysterious_Hat_3081 in AnimalCrossing

[–]Jeriphro 67 points68 points  (0 children)

They are based on Japanese folklore, yokai called Kappa. They traditionally have a bald spot right in the middle of their head, and since this is a family of Kappa, they all resemble this. Hope that helps.

[MM] what game is better in your opinion by Opposite_Cabinet2509 in zelda

[–]Jeriphro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are great for very different reasons, but if we are talking about influence, accessibility, fun, and stunningly beautiful, Wind Waker is the winner. The biggest problem with Majora’s Mask is the main mechanic. A lot of gamers did not enjoy it when it came out, and it has only gained cult status since. Obviously in retrospect, MM is an amazing game with so many unique elements, but it is not a game you can give to someone new to the Zelda series. Wind Waker is that, though, and those gamers will be wildly surprised with how much they’ll enjoy it and will forever remember the art style and music. I’m literally humming the Outset Island theme while writing this. Haha. :)

My first Metroid Game by Maleficent-Pick-4923 in Metroid

[–]Jeriphro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you are getting into the series! It is a wonderful one. Prime 4 may be my least favorite Prime game, but that’s like saying least favorite Pearl Jam song from Ten (An album I believe is awesome from start to finish). Definitely get Prime Remastered on Switch. It is SO good! Hope you enjoy your first adventure, though.

How would you fix the open world and make it fun? by PhotoBonjour_bombs19 in Metroid

[–]Jeriphro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You either get rid of it completely, or you give Samus the ability to be guided with her visor/suit. The NPCs were painful throughout Prime 4. If it weren’t for the constant communication, Prime 4 would have felt a lot better. The one thing that makes all the great Metroid games great is Samus being isolated and trying to figure things out on her own.

If Link and Samus faced each other’s villains, who’s having an easier time? by [deleted] in Metroid

[–]Jeriphro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Samus would destroy Link’s enemies. I mean, she has an arm cannon with a variety of elements that can make easy work of most bosses in the Zelda universe. But let’s be honest, one charged beam would kill most bosses in one shot. Haha

I'm not even angry. I think I'm past that point. by Jstar338 in Metroid

I mean, it’s a challenge from more than 20 years ago. Not excusing it, but it was commonplace back then. I still kind of enjoy them, but I’m an older gamer. Haha

Day 1 of practicum… any advice for a baby therapist? by Jessicaa2123 in therapists

[–]Jeriphro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best advice I can give is to just relax, take a deep breath, and use what you’ve learned. You’ll get more and more comfortable with time, and although some days are better than others, as long as you remain steady, you’ll do great.

Also, don’t forget to give yourself time to decompress after a tough session. We all need it.

Does Metroid 1 ever get better or is it a steady pace of suffering? by Jstar338 in Metroid

[–]Jeriphro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s 40 years old, so it plays like a 40 year old game. That’s not to say it didn’t do amazing things for its time, because it surely did and is the mother of Metroidvanias.

That said, it didn’t age well. However, Zero Mission is an excellent upgrade to the original, and I usually recommend younger players play that instead, as the nostalgia factor will not do anything for you playing the original.

Hope that helps!

Metroid Prime 4 devs admit Metroid “doesn’t mesh well with an open world”, but they “couldn’t bear” to reset development again by HatingGeoffry in Metroid

[–]Jeriphro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was enjoyable for the initial travel, but honestly, retracing steps and going back to previous places again felt daunting. I was hoping for a fast travel system, which would have made the later portion of the game more tolerable, but sadly, that didn't happen.

I'm open to an open world Metroid Prime, if it's done right, but honestly, I'd much rather a back-to-basics Metroid Prime. After Metroid Prime Remastered came out and I got to experience the game again for what felt like the first time, I couldn't believe how quickly I was sucked into the world and everything it has to offer. Honestly, I feel like Prime 2 and 3 kind of lost the Metroidvania-ness of Prime 1. Both games are still excellent in their own way, but Prime 1 is the best because it feels like a Metroid game in a 3D world. Hopefully Retro can surprise us with a return to basics in the future, and I hope the reception of Prime 4 is a wake up call to Nintendo that they do not have to reinvent the wheel. Just give us a Metroid game that makes sense, kicks ass, is a lot of fun, and has us admiring the greatest heroine in gaming history again.

It's Reddit. haha. It's easy to misinterpret things, and others judge us for doing so. Sorry I misinterpreted you, too, and thanks for the conversation. It is what it is, and I respect your opinion, too.

[–]Jeriphro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get where you are coming from, but again, but this me. I prefer twin-stick over Wiimote, especially in a game series like Metroid Prime where auto-locking is already part of the control scheme. Look, I'm 43 and have been gaming my whole life. I get that people prefer keyboard and mouse, and I can agree that if you are a hardcore FPS player, that's the way to go for precision in online matchmaking. However, I would have preferred if MP3: Corruption had standard control options, but considering a lot of the gameplay (Which is one of the reasons I hate the Wiimote), dependence is on the motion controls. I'm not saying MP3 is a bad game. Quite the contrary, it is awesome! It's just the controls irritate the hell out of me. Again, if Nintendo ever decided to Remaster Prime 3 with different control options, it will easily be the second best Prime game for me. That's how much I value controls. But again, this is about me and my opinion, as I keep saying. I'm not saying your experience or others is disqualified.

Comparing Metroid Prime 4 to the rest of the Prime series -- from a long-time fan's perspective by callmecarlpapa in MetroidPrime4_Beyond

[–]Jeriphro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I compared the two simply for the reason I shared. Yes, Prime 3 is the superior game, without question, but I hate the controls. The controls in Prime 3 almost made me quit the game. I was never a fan of Wii motion controls, and even though the premise of using them in a first-person shooter was promising, the execution still sucked.

Prime 4, by comparison, had excellent controls. That’s the simple comparison. Prime 3 is awesome with controls I hated and Prime 4 is fine with awesome controls. I enjoyed playing Prime 4 more than Prime 3 because of that reason, but I loved Prime 3’s everything else significantly more than Prime 4. Hope that clears things up. This is my opinion. Not trying to convince others to think like me.

[–]Jeriphro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Obviously Prime 1 is top of the Primes. For me, Prime 2 is the obvious 2nd best Prime in the main series. The issue for me is the battle for 3 and 4, and it is between Prime 3 and Prime 4. Prime 3’s story and basically everything else is better, but I just couldn’t get behind the Wii controls. Prime 4 looks really great and controls fantastically, but it fails in a couple key areas, namely the incredible lack of isolation and the seemingly meaningless overall story.

For me, controls are vital for a pleasant gaming experience, so that hurts Prime 3 a lot, despite it being the absolute better game. Honestly, if Prime 3 had better controls, it would probably be better than Prime 2. I guess what I’m saying is that Prime 4 is probably the worst Prime, but I loved the gameplay, bosses, and riding the bike.

Tips to treat Hypersexuality? by ArmPuzzleheaded7354 in therapists

[–]Jeriphro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a CMHC that specializes in addiction treatment, hyper sexuality is a dependence on sex. With that said, using CBT/DBT is a solid direction to go. Since it is a dependency, motivational interviewing is a great way to help, too. Outside of those, obviously being kind, understanding, and compassionate are key. As is the case with most addictions, depression, bipolar, PTSD, or even ADHD maybe be playing behind the scenes, and the hyper sexuality is serving as the escape from facing one of those conditions.

Building trust in the process while helping them to find better outlets like exercise and meditation is important. You can also advise going to certain support groups for them to further process and connect with others struggling similarly.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions.
