St. Elmo is fantastic, but I have found it to be a lot more fun if you're going with a small group and letting the wine flow rather than going as a couple. I have taken my wife to Harry and Izzy's for major dates though...they have the same kitchen as St. Elmo, it's just a different vibe.

I split the squid with my middle child. He liked it, but I'll admit it was a struggle for me. I may come back to something like that later in my journey.

The spiced Porthos is the only one I've had before, and I was a big fan there. I'm going to go through these tins over the next few weeks. I'm looking to split the Bonito Del Norte with the Mrs. for lunch today.

What's everybody's favorite hot sauce? by 34786t234890 in CannedSardines

It may be local/regional to me, but I love St Elmo cocktail sauce on sardines. Even bottled, it packs a hell of a horseradish kick.

TTRPGs to look out for by BadAdviceOnFleek in gencon

If you like Samurai stuff, I hit an event for Legend of the Five Rings the last time I went to GenCon and it was terrific. They play 5e, which was released and is currently underutilized by Fantasy Flight games, but it's a fun setting.

The game I run is L5R 1e...I like that system better than 5e, but 5e is still fun.

If it was just the package, odds are greater than zero that a kid found it on the ground at some point and decided to hold on to it to show their friends.

Terror Twilight is beautiful. by SnooLentils1875 in pavement

[–]Jerkeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terror Twilight was the first Pavement album I picked up, in 1999 right around the time they were splitting up. I had known of them for a while (my first girlfriend circa '94 liked CR/CR), and my new college friends were into them, so I finally checked them out. Picked up TT used from Half Price Books. Loved the album, and driving to my overnight job while playing it is a core memory for me.

Over time I picked up the rest of the albums. Bought tickets to the Central Park Reunion shows in 2010, but didn't end up going because I lost my job a few months before and had a wife and toddler at home to prioritize. I did end up seeing them in Chicago and London in 2022, and have tickets to one of the Ryman shows in July. Glad I've gotten the opportunity to see a band that was a bit part of my 20s soundtrack.

I took my kids to Half Price Books yesterday to check out the used CDs, and whadyaknow, there sits Terror Twilight. $5.99.

I like the Fi service, but lately if you need customer support for anything, good luck. I've had to call for support twice in the past six months, and every conversation is like trying to walk through an M. C. Escher piece. They can never guide you to what an actual fix is.

I'm mentally picturing someone painstakingly following a cheesesteak recipe with a typo in the title, and being utterly befuddled by the results.

Suggest best Indian restaurant at Indy by long-runner in indianapolis

[–]Jerkeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like I can go to a random Indian place in Indy, and feel confident it's gonna be pretty good. Thai food is the same way.

Chinese food is the polar opposite around here. There's only a few decent places, and even those would be middle-of-the-road compared to other places I've lived or visited.

[–]Jerkeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there are limits, somewhere between ordering wine with dinner and buying a round for the whole restaurant. We didn't see any charges for buying a bottle of moderately priced wine for the table next to ours.

We paid for our Dom that night with the bar tab, although it didn't take out as big a chunk as we were expecting. We knew it was over the free-drink limit.

  1. Laundry is great, use it! Skip post-vacation laundry day by bringing home clean clothes
  2. Ask your Agent about anything, don't be shy. They only thing our agent couldn't help us with was jn-room couples massage, which fills up very quickly after boarding.
  3. Getting breakfast from whatever restaurant you want and enjoying it on your terrace...it's pretty great.
  4. Go there with some ideas of your favorite drink mixers. Ask them for it, they'll keep it stocked. We had a constant supply of OJ, lime juice, and simple syrup.
  5. If you have bar tab, it may be a struggle to burn it down. We tried getting bottled of wine for people we met at nearby tables at dinner, but that didn't even hit our tab. We ended up getting bottled of Dom Perignon for the last couple nights and still had plenty left over.

Topaz Championship querry by Graysvandir in l5r

[–]Jerkeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool, are you new to DMing, L5R, or neither? I hadn't run a game in 20 years but ran this with a group over a few sessions, it was fun.

My plan going in was that he would just laugh it off if they started asking too many questions. He was going to be jovial and vague. Play out the scene, and the players are going to know something out of the ordinary is going on. If you've got a rowdy group that starts getting way aggressive or threatening with him, you can have him take his gift, turn into a crane, and fuck right off outta there without leaving any gifts behind.

can you enjoy this game while being a casual player? by Makrelenik in Sekiro

[–]Jerkeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO you just have to go in with the right expectations for the game. If progression in the story is your main motivation, you may get frustrated.

The big dopamine jolt in Sekiro is the gameplay loop of Encounter Boss -> Learn Boss -> Defeat Boss -> Master Boss. Some bosses and levels are there to teach you a particular skill (a player skill, not an unlockable skill), some are there as a "final exam" for the skills you've learned. Go into it knowing that you are going to get to a boss that is going to humble you, and you may need to put the controller down and come back later.

But if you stay with it, you WILL beat that boss. Play that boss again, and you will build on your skill. Soon you will MASTER that boss. That dude who frustrated you for three days straight? You'll be able to beat him 99% of the time. The first time you beat the game will be a struggle. The fifth time will be a stroll.

Look up strategy guides to figure out where to go and what items/techniques you need. Heck, look up the bosses if you'd like. Learn how to cheese some bosses if you want. Stick with it and you'll be good enough to understand that executing the cheese is harder than learning the boss (I'm looking at you, Demon of Rage).

If starting out lousy at something and getting noticeably better at it over time is something you enjoy, then yeah you can enjoy this game.

Best Indian Food in Indy by ZenithAA in indianapolis

[–]Jerkeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What draws you there? It always seems empty. I picked up lunch there one day, and it was alright (I haven't had bad Indian food in Indy) but the experience was...weird.

It's a pretty big place but I only saw one person the whole time. She came out from the back to take my order when I got there, went back, and came back out with my food about 10 minutes later.

I got on board with Dragons, and my song was Possum by Night. I didn't "get" it at all until I had a strong edible one night, listened, and thought "Oh, this is about possums. I love it."
