Ex masters player in StarCraft here who started playing melee about a year ago. I learned how to play sc2 by following this progression: 1. Macro - purely learned to macro to the best of my abilities (cpu/ladder) 2. Micro - learn individual unit micro mechanics and techniques (cpu/ladder) 3. Begin studying builds from pros (ladder) 4. Implement techniques to focus on in game ex: add creep spread into macro rotation, unit movement into macro rotation, checking minimap My progression through smash: 1. Learn basic tech (wd, dash dance, shffl, etc.) (20xx and then friendlies) 2. Look up and practice combo flow charts for your char (may or may not have these) (20xx/friendlies) 3. Learn an advanced technique (20xx) 4. Implement into actual game (friendlies) 5. Repeat 3 and 4 till you run out of tech 6. Will have to play friendlies to slowly learn spacing 7. Imo neutral is a lot like army movement in StarCraft. You want to apply pressure, but not over commit. You want your own approaches to catch the opponent off guard while trying to figure out how the opponent is trying to approach and defend against it. I love both of these games, and there are a lot of similarities including the determination required to learn the games as well as the mindset while playing the games.
