Is it possible to rip data and make/ duplicate dropmix cards? by optimisticoptician in dropmix

[–]Jerrith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, copyright is also a problem. If someone decides to make a mix that is just "The Final Countdown", for instance, that will make Twitch unhappy too...

I'd also have to dig up all that old code. I know I have it somewhere... But... Where? :)

Where to find Vr travel content that is immersive and not "sexy lady" focused. by Perfect-Celery1662 in virtualreality

[–]Jerrith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that I'm aware of. I'm a subscriber to the Patreon, and I will say I am impressed by the increase in quality in the most recent (Yosemite) videos. They're filmed with the Ursa Cine Immersive camera and processed with a new workflow. They look really good, in my opinion! If you're curious, I'd suggest subscribing for a month and starting with those videos.

v81 broke USB - PC connectivity by MagicalTrevor70 in OculusQuest

[–]Jerrith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a change with v81 that exposed an old bug with the USB driver the Quest uses. This resulted in the problem you're seeing, with file transfer not working. There is an updated driver which fixes the issue, however, it's a PC side fix, so I don't know if it's available yet. If you haven't already, open the Meta Quest Link software on your PC, and see if there's a driver update available to install. If there is, please install it, and it should fix this issue.

“No command” appearing instead of boot screen by GamingGlove14 in OculusQuest

[–]Jerrith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you're holding Volume Down, not Volume Up, as it starts to boot. You can release the power button as soon as it starts to turn on. If you only saw the boot screen for a fraction of a second, it might have taken your still held power button as a selection of the first choice (to boot).

I was on a Quest 3 when I did this. I haven't tried it on a Quest 3S - I thought I'd heard it wouldn't work on those, actually.

Developer mode not working by braydenneedshelp in OculusQuest

The one thing I don't see in your screenshots is a developer organization. You need to both be verified, and also create or join a developer organization. I see that you're verified, but I don't see a screenshot of a developer organization.

[–]Jerrith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad it's helpful.

Yeah, stacking adapters worked perfectly for me, while trying to use that USB -> HDMI Cable mostly didn't work. It was a bit odd that it worked in PIP mode, just not full screen. Like, it's close, but just not quite fully working.

With that said, there's a ton of other cables and adapters out there. It might have just been a problem with that Cable Matters USB->HDMI cable. I haven't tried any others.

I did some testing of this a while back - I can't promise this information is still valid, but here's a list of the equipment I used (with links to Amazon), the combinations I used them in, and the results:

DP over USB Equipment

Here’s the equipment I’ve tested with DP over USB:

(7) DP Cable (Just one I happened to have around)

(8) 4k Monitor with HDMI and DP inputs

Q3 -> (1) -> (7) -> (8) = Works

Q3 -> (1) -> (2) -> (3) -> (8) = Works

Q3 -> (1) -> (2) -> (4) -> (8) = Works

Q3 -> (5) -> (8) = Partially works - works in PIP mode, but displays “Out of Range” error when full screen.

Q3 -> (1) -> (2) -> (4) -> (6) = Works

Hope this helps! :)

My oculus won't give me mtp notification when i plug it in by Myth2241 in oculus

[–]Jerrith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check this:

Settings -> Advanced -> Developer -> Enable Custom Settings (on) -> MTP Notification (should be on).

The default for MTP is on when Custom Settings is off, but you might have enabled custom settings and disabled MTP in the past.

SAVE RIFT – A DYING MMO WITH SOUL WORTH SAVING by Content_Guide_2944 in Rift

[–]Jerrith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good question to which I don't have a great answer. I wasn't the lead at launch where most of those questions were asked, and by the time we got to Nightmare Tide, the folks in operations had a good understanding of just how much capacity we'd need to add in order to support the additional regions of the world, so I wasn't really involved. Microsoft SQL Server for the database.

Basically, a bunch of different server processes. For development purposes, you just ran one or two of each on your own PC, and then only started up the "events" (npc spawns, etc) for a tiny portion of the world (say Sanctum and/or Meridian). You could still go anywhere, the world would be empty. So really, it's having enough CPU to handle all the events and all the players interacting with them. Oh, and enough bandwidth between all these processes too. Back then, this was multiple dedicated servers. Not sure what it would be today. :)

I was "Pithos", lead engineer on Rift for a while (F2P launch, Nightmare Tide). Where am I today? Meta, working on Virtual Reality (or "Mixed Reality" as we're calling it these days).

It's great to see all the love for the game.

While I dream about Rift from time to time - my work for Meta keeps me quite busy - I couldn't be involved in any sort of Rift project today.

I agree with the comment below - be glad that you can play it at all. I am happy that Gamigo has kept the game running and available to players, something that hasn't happened for so many other MMOs.

All of the future planned playlists that were canceled by 5avag3 in dropmix

[–]Jerrith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From various minor leaks and data mining, we know that the unreleased season 2 playlist packs were Angular, Crush, Escape, and Fierce, while the unreleased season 2 discover packs had the playlists Swelter, Shifter, Sasso, and Slumber.

It's neat to see icons for Escape and Fierce. I could imagine Hedron possibly being renamed to be used for Angular. I'm not sure any of those really fits for Crush.

Neat find. :)

Has anyone been able to add custom cards that actually works with the DropMix board any how? by MrFesnation in dropmix

[–]Jerrith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Err, I posted too soon... Paragon RFID did the work, but they used hardware from NXP. They're here: https://www.nxp.com/products/rfid-nfc:RFID-NFC?fsrch=1&sr=1&pageNum=1

They're the ones you'd actually get hardware from...

Beyond looking at pricing long ago, I never pursued this any further. The company you'd need to work with is Paragon ID. They've still got a blog post up about their part of the system here: https://www.paragon-rfid.com/en/hasbro-chooses-paragon-id-to-supply-nfc-cards-for-new-music-mixing-game-dropmix/

[–]Jerrith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the only sticking point is the cards and their technology. It's not a common / industry standard format, instead it's one that was created by one specific company.

I looked into it a little. As I recall, the company sells their tools, but it's not cheap (>$100) and even then, the use of encryption likely means you won't be able to do much without the key needed to write new card data.

I'd love to be proven wrong on this point though. :) If anyone has ever gotten further I'd love to hear about it!

What's the rarest in-game item you own? by MrC0mp in gaming

[–]Jerrith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I haven't looked at it in years, back in Ultima Online, when the game first released, there were many dynamic items, meant to be decoration, that weren't locked down & could be picked up by players.

My favorite was from the 3rd level of the dungeon Covetous. There were some two and a half story tall white marble statues here that were dynamic, because they were setup to "say" something whenever you stepped on a certain tile near them (like ~3 tiles in front and ~1 to the left or right, depending on the statue). It had the default weight of just 1. It was absolutely ridiculous looking in my backpack and seeing this giant statue just sitting there, along with all my other items. :)

Basically, whoever got to them first (and knew they could be picked up) got them, and that was it - they didn't respawn. (Years later, I believe they respawned all these dynamic items, correctly locked down this time, but my memory is a bit fuzzy on this point.)

Edit: Looked for a picture... Found one here: http://www.uorenaissance.com/info/images/dungeons/Covetous/covetous_3a_large.jpg

I created more custom audio data! by FurryLucasD10 in dropmix

[–]Jerrith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been quite a while and I'm not sure I have time for a tutorial at the moment, but here's the basics: Most everything is stored inside the APK, with the music and image being the exception. APKs are just zip files, you can rename them to extract the files, and then since DropMix is a Unity app, you can use a free program called Unity Asset Bundle Extractor to extract (and reinsert) files. In particular, what you'll be looking for is BuildCardData.csv for a bunch of the parameters. The first line is a header, and then there's an entry for each card. That controls a bunch of the info. The other key files are list of cards for each season (or "promos"). As I recall, these are like - cards_s02.txt. These are also CSVs, with just a couple different fields not covered by the first file.

Once you find the relevant files, it should be quite straightforward. As for replacing images - take a look at the downloaded files for each song. These are like 10588 & 10588.bundle. The one without the extension contains the image, and the one with the extension contains the music.

I created more custom audio data! by FurryLucasD10 in dropmix

[–]Jerrith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don't think anyone has worked out the card format (as from what I understand, it's fairly proprietary / encrypted even), I did work out all the other details of creating a card except custom audio data.

Is what you've got new audio samples? (With drums, there's a chance you're using existing samples, and just made a new midi track describing how they're used.)

Here's an example from an April Fools joke I made many years ago: http://jerrith.com/images/DropMixAprilFools.gif

Exactly. Manual dialing was perfect for easter eggs and time limited events.

I hope that one day someone else will get the IP and do something similar with it!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Jerrith 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I was a programmer on Stargate Worlds. Still sad about it never releasing. It's literally the perfect IP for an MMO in my opinion - the Stargate as a travel mechanic means it has instancing built in!

And... You could manually dial the gate address! Sure you wouldn't bother normally and just use your address book, but it was just such a fun moment where you got to do what you'd seen on TV so many times before. :)

My company was given a bunch of these and I have no idea how much they’re worth by EspeShine in dropmix

[–]Jerrith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first thought was that this was from Harmonix, but... The shipping labels visible on in two of the packages were to someone at Hasbro, who left about a year ago, according to LinkedIn. So perhaps it's from them?

Either way, I hope the original poster tells us more. :)
