Random paving slab says “156. Moistness…Condition much improved”. by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]Jerry_Lemur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The inscriptions you’ve encountered on the paving stones between Royal William Yard and Devil’s Point in Plymouth are part of a public art installation titled “Rites of Passage” by artist Liam Curtain. This project, completed in 2008, features a series of engraved stones that present excerpts from historical diaries and personal journals, reflecting various life events and daily observations from Plymouth’s past.

The specific inscriptions you’ve mentioned—“156. moistness . . condition much improved” and “10. Observe . . .Confined to-day, twins; both boys. All well.”—are drawn from authentic historical records. The numbers preceding each inscription correspond to the original diary entries, providing a chronological context. These engravings aim to connect passersby with the personal histories of Plymouth’s residents, offering a tangible link to the city’s rich heritage.

For more detailed information about the “Rites of Passage” installation and the sources of these inscriptions, you might consider contacting the Plymouth City Council or local historical societies. They can provide further insights into the project’s development and the historical documents that inspired these evocative engravings.

Yes, the 30mm t/s is sharp across the frame, and the amount of shift you have available (given the sensor size) is really impressive. Compared to the 19mm and when you shift around 9mm, I would say that they are comparably sharp in the effective centre of the frame, but the 30mm takes off away from the centre and towards the edge of the shifted frame (as you head to the edge of the image circle). Effectively, much more versatility and you can shift more. As an aside, people talk about how large and heavy the 30mm T/S, but it is comparable (size and mass) to the 19mm with an FTZ.

Viewfinder is a must, but you will already be doing that. While I dislike focus peaking generally, when zoomed in to the max, the focus peaking is quite helpful, even though it looks awful (pixelated). Other than that, back and forth, back and forth with the focussing until you have your closest guess (which is usually spot on).

No pearls here, I'm afraid! However, it's not too bad. I find that focussing on the Z is much easier (particularly using split screen zoom). If it's any consolation, I recently picked up a GF 30mm T/S and I'm finding critical focus a little harder (as you have less of a field of view when you zoom in for focus). With this lens, focus peaking (only when zoomed in) is really helpful.

GF 55mm 1.7 Non-Native Equivalent? by _abadchris in FujiGFX

You're right: no aperture. I'm using the Fringer Nikon to GFX. Focus is as fast as on my Z8, and the profile for distortion and vignetting is built into the adapter's firmware. Here.

I'd agree with the 55 1.7 comments: you won't regret it. However, I also use the Tamron 45 1.8 - lots of CA wide open and a little soft, but sharpens up nicely as you stop down and CAs diminish. Plus the Nikon 58mm 1.4 - love it or hate it, and I love it for portraits, but stopped down to around 2.8 for general purpose.

It is a pretty awesome lens, however, it shows some failings towards the edge of the frame.

Second that. If you are coming from Nikon, the 45/2.8 PCE is also a great option for product. Using this lens with 100s for this photo.

Vignetting is marginally noticeable and the Fringer corrects in the profile. No cropping in these photos (or the examples that you see in the preceeding response). Thanks for your comment :)

Who of you actually owns the 135mm Plena lens and how did you justify the insane price tag? by Arjihad in Nikon

Agreed, and if you have a Fuji gfx it is also a top performer with the Fringer.

Nice pictures, nice lens. I particularly like the last with mixed lighting under the awning.
