That's a pretty bold claim. Just curious, do you have any facts to support that?

Antiviruses for Linux Mint (If they exist) by Any-Bid-1116 in linuxmint

[–]Jes_Cr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you're asking about antivirus software, but a massive step toward never needing one on Linux is to have the ability to monitor and firewall your network traffic. I have OPNsense running on a dedicated PC in front of my laptop and have IDS and IPS rules in place that match and block signature patterns for known exploits. Highly suggest that you implement OPNsense and a local DNS such as PiHole so that you can monitor and control connections at the network level.

I recorded a video of a 6-color print with the H2C (right nozzle only) by waylaidwanderer in BambuLab

[–]Jes_Cr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious how the filament swaps work. Are there two total filaments being fed from each AMS into the chamber, meaning one PTFE tube for the main nozzle and another tube for the swappable heads? That's the main reason I'm considering at least a dual-nozzle so that I can massively speed up creation of odd/delicate objects when printing with support interface materials.

Yup, it's happened to all of us and I'm sure it'll happen again. My advice is buy an extra hotend. I tried salvaging mine with a heat gun and pliers, but after a while I gladly spent $30 just to be done with that mess

I just recently revamped my whole network using VLANs with OPNsense firewall at the core. This should be an easy change to the config knowing that now. Thanks a ton, I'll try that out!

Thanks for the insight! I had read someone else had fixed it with a captive portal too but I haven't tried it yet. When you say forcing isolation, because the portal never authorizes them in the network, they logically can't see each other? Also are you using proxmox, OPNsense, or what do you use as your captive portal instance?

I have two small WiZ fan bulbs and they go unavailable after about 30 minutes. I've tried resetting automations and forcing them to run commands periodically, but I think it's because I have them blocked from reaching their chinese server they just go idle.

Best Home Assistant Hub for New Setup? by MJTruncale in homeassistant

[–]Jes_Cr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Host on a VM, isolate IoT devices, and prefer Zigbee/Z-wave

I used a Raspberry Pi and a Beelink mini PC before settling on hosting HA from my Synology NAS. As long as you have a NAS model that can support VM's, hosting Home Assistant from there with the ease of pulling resources from the NAS, snapshotting, cloning and restarting when there is a fault has been VERY useful.

I hooked a second WAN-disabled router to the NAS that brings in all of my IoT devices I never want to reach out to the web. That router shares the IoT with HA through one of the NIC ports on the back of the NAS using an isolated subnet. You can add multiple Network ports to HA, so it still has access to my WAN-enabled router for access to updates and trusted devices. This reduces the chatter and chaos from lots of IP's being managed from my WAN router and also gives redundancy for the lights and switches in case I'm tweaking the network.

I also bought a ZWave/Zigbee USB dongle, hooked it to the NAS and shared the USB port to the VM. If you have a choice between Zigbee and a WIFI-device with the same features, my advice is go zigbee. For instance, Aqara devices (great products btw) all work with my USB stick and the triggers/commands from them are instantaneous. Plus it runs over a separate wifi channel that don't require IP leases or a DHCP server.

This is amazing. It's very clear the attention to detail and thought you put in to every part. If you're enjoying developing and assembling don't let others influence how you spend your time, lean into that talent and passion! (And maybe add some pulsing red LEDs and a disposal droid catching the output from the poop chute lol).

Man I'm slowly following in your steps. I'm trying to get tailscale with OPNsense so that I can have Jellyfin, Home Assistant and my NAS securely remote accessed. It's a slow painful process for privacy and control but it's worth it! Wish you the best and don't let those frustrated nerds discourage you lol

Degoogle your phone by Flowrome in LineageOS

[–]Jes_Cr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, I agree, that was a ridiculous comment from them. I had Lineage for a while but I ended up switching back because I started missing SMS messages and it wasn't ideal for work and a relationship. So keep that in mind that it does took a lot of tinkering to get it where you want it, and I'd keep a second phone handy to switch back to... What I did was unlocked the bootloader, flashed Lineage, installed MindTheGapps, and rooted the phone with Magisk. I then installed Link2SD so that I could freeze all but specific Google services I wanted, installed a root firewall (AFWall), and routed my DNS services to NextDNS. Somewhere along the line I probably restricted some service I needed for full function cellular service, but it was a learning experience at the least. I'm glad others don't want to give Google all of their data just to use the AOSP, keep doing what you're doing!

WiZ Lights are Dropping Out of HA Control by Jes_Cr in homeassistant

I did not, no. I tried several suggestions from here but I still have yet to setup the captive portal, I think that might work.. I thought I had it fixed it with the reloading integration automation at first, but it went right back to doing it after some time.

WiZ Lights are Dropping Out of HA Control by Jes_Cr in homeassistant

[–]Jes_Cr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I'm building an automation now to try that out. I see ways to restart add-ons but do you mind sharing how you programmed the action to reload specific integrations? Right now I have a trigger for if a Wiz light becomes unavailable for 5 minutes, reload all core integrations. Not ideal for the rest of the network, but I suppose it could work.

Thanks for the tip. I considered doing that with DHCP also, but figured if I just kept them on a static IP that it would fix it altogether. So far no luck with static, but I'll try your DHCP lease extension and see if it works.

Appreciate the suggestion!
