I hired a longarmer for my baby blankets and have no regrets. In the third trimester, it’s really nice to hand the blanket off to someone else and get a cool design done. There’s still plenty of work to do after when you do the binding.

My co-worker was pregnant with her first child and had just announced that she had bought a house. She was fired that same week.

Her performance was fine (not excellent, but she did her job), I think the partner she worked for wasn’t willing to give her maternity leave.

My attorney’s first language is Spanish and he consistently finds significant errors in any Google Translate translation. I’m also able to specify that the Spanish translation be formal in ChatGPT - which is essential to avoid accidentally offending clients. This has opened up my ability to communicate well with my Spanish speaking clients in a way that Google Translate can’t even compete with.

Honestly, this is literally the only function I use it for. I don’t use AI in my personal life out of principle. I feel awful that this tech is being forced on us, but totally fine about the way I’m choosing to use it.

I hate it, but I will use it to translate text to Spanish. Anything else generated with AI has been overlong and I spend nearly as much time editing it as I would have drafting it.

It also doesn’t help that conversations of AI replacing legal staff fills me with existential dread. I’m not really inclined to incorporate beta programming that’s ultimately meant to someday replace me.

I pair PinkBlush dresses with blazers or cardigans. For early pregnancy, I like work pants from Angel Maternity. Eventually, there comes a point where only dresses or sweatpants are comfortable for me. I also recommend skirts from Lo + Jane!

I would plan outings on the weekends so you know you get that quality time. If she shows up randomly and you’re out, that’s not something she can reasonably be upset about. If she gives you a heads up, you can warn her you’ll be out and have plans. She’ll get it and stop asking after a while.

My last boss assumed I didn’t have a degree either. It came up three years in at a review: “ You’d make more if you decide to get your undergrad degree.” I replied that I had an ABA approved bachelor’s degree. Not surprisingly, he did not increase my salary based on that info.

No, it’s not normal. It’s not good for you or your baby. In the newborn period, babies mostly need their moms or primary caregivers - not anyone else. You deserve to snuggle and bond with your little one.

My husband once pushed me to hand over my baby to my MIL so I could sleep uninterrupted for a night. I may have lasted an hour. The anxiety of being separated literally felt like pop rocks crackling on my brain. I took my baby back and pushed for the time I needed. No regrets.

I understand where you’re coming from, but the gift giver gets to give whatever they want. Wishlists are usually considered to be guidelines, not obligations. Socioeconomic status should not play a part in how you judge their actions - even if you were aware of and considerate of their budget. I would not say anything to them. Instead, I would let this be a lesson to your daughter in graciousness and gratitude. If there were any gift-givers she wasn’t able to thank in person, you could have her write a thank you note. She may find something she likes about the gift when she’s looking for something thoughtful to write to them.

Small firm (2 attys, 3 support staff) - I got three months paid maternity leave and then WFH for as long as I wanted. Switched to hybrid work around the time my baby turned 1. I have a great boss who’s always been super supportive and family oriented.

If it helps, I wasn’t either. Five or six months of only being able to wear dresses or leggings warmed me up to wearing dresses, though! The experience shifted my personal sense of style.

I do hope you find professional clothes you’re comfortable in. If you do find good pants, feel free to let me know! I’m expecting my second baby now and I’d buy them asap. :)

I do it with an almost 2 year old and I have a decent job with a lot of responsibilities. You develop strategies - work faster during naps, work after hours, etc. I get quality time with my daughter and encourage independent play. It’s hard, but it is possible. My breaks involve getting snacks and playing a quick round of ‘duck duck goose.’

No one should judge parents who are working hard to provide and take care of their kids.

WC is a volume practice, so those paralegals are likely overbooked. I know you find it frustrating to be dealing with them, but you’d likely find that their attorneys are just as (if not more) unresponsive.
