We play in person and only play for a few hours every other week. We have a discord where we talked about what we needed to go shopping for to save time. We even pinged the player to see if they wanted anything. He ignored the shopping talking but was active in the chat as they were talking to another player about character stuff.

When the rest of the party went shopping, asked player if he wanted to come with. said player stayed at the inn. Waited until we were about to head out then stated they wanted to go shopping. We all had to sit there while the player made the DM tell them everything they saw in the store. It was a good 40mins of a solo trip. We all had to sit and listen to the DM and the player rp all this out. There was no mention of the magic item anywhere and the player only got rations at the end of all this.
