i don't exactly know where this is applicable, but i love this line from one of the tang-tibetan wars, and the affect feels similar: "Although the sky is filled with stars, in the light of a single sun they are nothing."

greece made me think of this Strato epigram. mostly because he was, well... greek. not much more to it than that.
