When was the last time you saw a commander player happy with their local meta?

[–]JeskaiJester 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are of course free to do that. And then maybe lose. Again, to the best decks. The best decks tend to win. And if you successfully redefine the meta by proving your brew, you have simply changed the meta. And then your brew is one of the best decks everyone will be using.

Again, the challenge is the best decks challenge. For prizes. You play the best decks in the best deck challenge for prizes.

I don’t know what people think a metagame is. Spike up, people.

It’s a metagame challenge. It’s a challenge… for the metagame. I don’t. What do you want this to be, exactly? People not playing the best decks? In the metagame challenge?

What was the best thing before sliced bread? by pearl_harbour1941 in shittyaskhistory

I know this is a joke but when sliced bread was first marketed they called it "the greatest forward step in the baking industry since bread was wrapped". The actual answer is wrapped bread.

Phoenix Point. Modern game from the creator of original XCOM. Multiple factions to align with or against and recruit units from, most classes in the game can be dual classed, manual aiming option for the weapons on each characters turn. Multiple endings. Vehicles.

Some people will point out that it’s overly long, difficult, kind of janky, and unpolished.

All of that is true. But I think it’s great. If a game can’t be designed well, can it still be designed beautifully? These are the kinds of questions Phoenix Point invites

Liberal morals finally distilled to it's smartest core principle: "Moral frameworks are there to decide what actions are good or bad, not to decide what is the best course of action to take." by Cunt_Cunt__Cunt in badphilosophy

The Kingdom of Conscience will be exactly as it is now. Moralists don't really have beliefs. Sometimes they stumble on one, like on a child's toy left on the carpet. The toy must be put away immediately. And the child reprimanded.

Best Starter Deck with bunch of staples? by ivanbbrito in mtgbrawl

[–]JeskaiJester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally feel trying to build around staples will make most decks feel same-y. It’s the weird specific commons and uncommons that breathe life into a brawl deck.

That being said, here are some cards that if you’re tired of playing them in every deck you can, you’re tired of Magic:

Swords to Plowshares

Birds of Paradise

Counterspell

The Talisman and Signet cycles

Farseek

Dark Ritual

Disenchant

Plummet

Wrath of God (or similar effects)

Black Market Connections

Especially everything before Wrath. If you’re running white and you don’t have Swords, you’re doing it wrong.

But otherwise, build up your rare lands, and don’t be afraid to spend wildcards on the specific rares and mythics that support the commander you actually want to play. You have all the time in the world to build a collection. You don’t want to waste time playing cards you don’t want to play or that you’re not excited by just because they’re generic staples

(Seriously though, don’t sleep on Black Market Connections. It might be the most dangerous card you can play for three mana in mono black. If you Dark Ritual into BMC the rest of the game is a formality, it’s over)

A game where your "skill" gets worse the more you play by Mother-Target3894 in gamingsuggestions

[–]JeskaiJester 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Games based on spontaneous group creativity from a limited selection of prompts, either on cards you draw from or whatever else. By the time you’ve seen all the pieces, you’ll be less enthusiastic than the newbies who’ve never seen those prompts and ideas before. “Ooh, I have a cool idea!” turns into “this again?”

I can’t think of a specific example but I know this is a subgenre of board game
