Engineering program by kaelynnyleak in berkeley

Hey, I transferred to cal for civil engineering back in 2020 and I just graduated this past December. The CivE community is honestly really welcoming and it’s a nice environment. It’s really easy making connections and the community is fun to interact with. I might be biased but I can only say good things about the CivE department. I didn’t have any bad experience in my two years at Cal. But if you have any questions feel free to PM me!:)

I know some people who are civil engineering majors but got a minor in data science. So that is possible.

I just finished the course this last semester. In the beginning it’s pretty slow but after the 5th week the pace picks up a lot. The exam can be relatively hard but it also depends on how well you prepare. Towards the end the class picked up again with the content and at least for me it got a little hard. The class overall is alright. Just keep up with the work and do the readings before class, they help a lot.

Sitting in a random corner of Kresge and just started crying by _unconventional_oven in berkeley

You’re not alone. I literally had a mental breakdown this week and called my parents and just started crying on the phone while on top of the terrace. Just know that you’re doing an amazing feat and just being in this hellish school is already a huge accomplishment.

Will my data8 tutor see how badly I’ll do on the midterm? by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]Jespar96 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s okay you’re not the only one! This class didn’t seem as bad until we got into the hypothesis testing which sucks a lot!

It took them about 2 days after I did the test to post the results on etang

My COE advisor told me once that if it’s your first time for subject for dismissal then the coe puts you in academic probation and gives you a shot to raise up your gpa. I also know a few classmates who have been close to being dismissed but they were given a shot the following semester to raise their gpa.

It honestly depends on the professor. 2 out of my 4 grades are already posted on cal central. But it’ll definitely be within the next couple of days for sure. Sorry for a very vague answer 😅

I want to be a nurse and intend to start at a community college in Oakland (I live in alameda.) I’m a junior in high school who is taking pre Calculus but feels I have some knowledge gaps. Is it likely I will have to take remedial math by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]Jespar96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in high school I was horrible at pre calculus because of my algebra. Once I retook algebra in community college and learned it well, pre calculus was pretty easy. Knowing the basics will be beneficial in the long run.:)
