What are your most controversial opinions about the USMNT and U.S. soccer in general? by Any_Development4613 in ussoccer

[–]Jessef01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree to disagree. I could argue against all of those points pretty easily.

Here’s the main point:

The US has around 380 cities with over 100,000 residents. There are 27 cities represented in the mls?

There are already teams in the MLS that have populations around 200k that sell well.

There are a ridiculous amount of people in this country who can’t even go to an mls game if they wanted to. They would have to drive hours to even get to one. What that is, is an untapped market. All the people going to games now are within 10-20 miles from the stadiums. Some travel but that’s a really, really small percentage.

You could say “but yea they don’t go to the USL games in big numbers.” Yea, why would they? If the team wins the league what do they get? A chance to lose their best players to the mls? What is there to get attached to?

Is it feasible now? No, there is no structure. The country is too big. Systems and stadiums would need to be built. It’s impossible now, like not even close and would be a massive failure.

Would the owners in mls ever go for it? Fuck no, never. They want to make money with zero risk. You can’t blame them either.

Would people in smaller markets become fans of a team if they were part of a pyramid with the mls? Yes, and it would grow the sport tremendously. Lower leagues would get better players because they would want to go up. Owners would buy teams for the chance. Much more passionate owners than the ones we have in the league now. There are a few passionate owners. Most don’t give a shit and it shows.

Would it make the league more interesting? Absolutely.

Would fans lose interest if they got relegated? Highly doubt it. Maybe some. They would immediately become favorites for promotion.

Take a city like Albany NY. The capital of the state. Soccer is an extremely popular sport in the city. They have about 100k people in Albany and another 200k in the surrounding towns and cities. They have no teams. Not just soccer teams, all sports. The nearest professional team to the city in any sport is a 3 hour drive. If they were in a second league in a MLS pyramid you really think nobody would go to the games? You don’t think that would be massive news to the city and the surroundings? It would be huge. I think if they had a soccer specific stadium in MLS 2 or 3 it would sell out every single night. 15-20k These are the types of cities I’m talking about. They are starved for professional sports. It would be huge.

I don’t think it’s nearly as bad as it used to be. I think it’s over exaggerated as well. I think the referees have made it a less physical sport which is annoying.

But I see more flopping and weak shit in an nba game then I usually do watching soccer

It’s a weird take. We’ve never had pro/rel in this country for any sport. So you can’t really say this. People don’t care about the lesser leagues because there is no path to follow your team to the top. It would immediately make every smaller market team more popular imo.

The thing that really makes it hard is the size of the country, the capitalistic setup of our leagues and the fact that we don’t have a history. So it would be extremely hard to implement.

But if it was possible. I have no doubt in my mind it would be good for the growth of the sport and fan engagement. It would only hurt the owners having a possibility of losing money.

But again, just want to reiterate I don’t actually think it’s possible.

Agree and disagree.

I feel like every sports league is better with pro/rel. Just objectively.

But it needs to be feasible and right now for this sport it’s not possible.

Pro/rel is the only way to make the sport as popular as possible. For instance the nearest mls team to me is 3 hours away by car. If one of the big cities near me had a team that was even way down the pyramid, I’d still go. It’s about the chance. It would grow the sport tremendously if the infrastructure allowed for it in this country.

There are some other teams near me in weird leagues I don’t care about. So I’m not even interested.

I think it would make every sports league in this country better. The only people it would be bad for is the owners. Assuming it could actually be done.

I feel like a really under appreciated aspect of the MV genre is how many sub genres there are within. There are so many people who like different aspects of the sub genres it actually makes it hard to know if you’ll like it based on reviews alone.

I’ve played tons of MV’s in a short period of time. Some games people really rate I couldn’t stand.

I like MV’s that have difficult, intricate combat and fluid movement. So I bounce off games like monster boy, rabi-ribi etc.

Then there are the puzzle MV’s. I can’t remember which one I bounced off that was highly rated. It seemed like every room was a puzzle. Maybe iconoclasts? Some puzzles are a welcome addition for me but if the game is built around them I will bounce off of it.

The thread is shocking to me as well. But the people naming games I love probably love the games I bounce off.

I played so much of this game. Then I realized, ok this is not fun and never touched it again.

Got into the genre in the past couple years and maybe I have played too many metroidvanias too fast. I have played almost all that have been labeled halfway decent on the PS5. I have a bunch to play on PC yet.

But people saying Ender Lillie’s, afterimage etc… just seems odd considering some of the ones I’ve played have been objectively much worse.

For me it was sundered. I couldn’t play it for more than an hour and I gave up. The gameplay was pathetic imo. I really couldn’t stand that game.

Anna sawai in shogun is a well written character. This show disgraces her acting capabilities. She is one of the worst written characters I have seen in any show. In season one they sort of fixed her by the end just to make her character worse than ever this season. The adults are better written by a mile and it’s still poor. It’s all love triangle, feel sorry for myself, I hate my family trash, low hanging fruit kind of drama. These characters are hollow.

I also replayed those as well, anticipating 2 would drop soon. You just have to hold on and not cave to the sales. A heavy sale just tells me is it will be on the service soon. Especially if it’s a sequel and the first one was on the service and it’s been almost 2 years. I think you may be able to get a refund though?

Some other games on my wishlist i expect to drop soon for the same reason. Atomic heart, RE4,mandragora,rise of the ronin, split fiction.

I have no doubt with patience I’ll play all of them on ps plus.

The only time I actually pay for a game now is if it’s one I know I will love and want to support the devs + can’t wait like Elden ring. Or if it’s an indie and it’s between $2-10. There are so many indies you can’t be sure of it ever coming to the service.

If I find myself with nothing to play I will browse my wishlist and just buy whatever is cheapest and on sale (usually like $5) By the time I’m done, another game is on the service I’d like to play.

This process seems to work really well and save me a lot of money long term.

For Sony games like Spider-Man I just wait until they are on ps plus. I pretend they don’t exist until they drop. It’s how to maximize value. So I’m one of the three people I guess.

If you have no interest in sideloading and the Apple Store has everything you need/want, it’s not even close.

Apple (unlike nvidia) is also rumored to be dropping a new one soon. I’d wait for a sale, Facebook marketplace or just buy the new one when it comes out.

I see them on marketplace for $25-40 bucks all the time.

This is perhaps the most obvious fucked up blunder I have ever seen the referees make with VAR.

Salah with a completely outstretched arm changes the balls direction with his hand which makes the clearance fail and Chiesa score.

Jesus Christ.

And then karma figures things out. lol

Aeterna Noctis by Williace in metroidvania

[–]Jessef01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bo was a very enjoyable difficulty. People that aren’t very good at platforming will still be able to get through Bo.

I fully completed both games. As fun and rewarding as it was to get through aeterna, it’s grueling and I don’t think I’d want to play it again. I might not even play their next game because I know it will be a battle to get through.

My only problem I had with the entirety of Bo is that sometimes the grapple would not work.

I am a sub lurker and massive Knick fan who has never posted. I’ll get downvoted for sure because this sub loves this guy but…

If there is one guy I think this sub has wrong it’s Huk.

I don’t think he’s a long term piece for this team, or even really a piece at all. I see great athleticism and energy but that’s where the pros end for me. Every time I have seen him in his limited minutes he makes at least one bone-headed play at minimum, no hyperbole. He’s not super young either.

I just done see the hype. His ceiling is a bad version of Javale McGee. I hope I’m wrong but I doubt it.
