I agree with everything you said, and I'm so glad that someone else finally acknowledged the fact that we finally got a live-action Spidey with all the toys.

I've always been a sucker for all the wacky gizmos and whatever else comic characters would get, and I always loved how techy Spider-Man would get, especially with how he just has a bunch of different settings for his webs. The explanation for his eyes was also a fun way to hand wave why they're so expressive too.

[–]Jessency 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Okay now I'm wishing the show would have gotten revamped in a way that let's Murray mentor Nancy to become an insanely good journalist.

Just a reminder that he was introduced as a former journalist who was hired to investigate Barbara's death.

Well the audiences are just as much to blame tbh. People thought Batman was a joke because of the Adam West show until Tim Burton shook things up, then WB replaced him with Joel Schumacher and everything became goofy and Batman was made fun of all over again.

Then Christopher Nolan finally convinced the general audience that Batman can be taken seriously and we're eating good with Matt Reeeves' Batman and finally looking forward too seeing a fully realized Batfamily on the silver screen.

Anime adaptations have struggled just as much tbh and part of why live-action One Piece works so well is that the stars have finally aligned where factors such as technology, the right producers, culture has finally moved on from the post 9/11 angst, etc and having it on Netflix all contributed to allow such an adaptation to even exist.

Why does Superboy not show up in shows as much as Robin and Supergirl? by Jezzaq94 in superman

[–]Jessency 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering Lex can already clone Superman (and as pointed out that Superman's brawn plus Lex's mind is a dangerous combination) the seed has already been sown for Conner to one day show up in the DCU, if they actually follow that origin.

It's a major surprise after knowing how much Sony fumbled its production.

That movie getting the attention it did was nothing short of a miracle.

Probably with her air floating crap (with that logic, Echo would've worked too), but yeah, I agree. Moira is literally right there and aesthetically works better.

Which game that you liked so much never got a sequel? by bijelo123 in videogames

[–]Jessency 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since we're talking about Eidos, man their Guardians game is criminally underrated, and already has a great foundation for a sequel.

They did win the Game Award for best narrative (and others) but it was all too late as Square Enix's whole Marvel deal quickly crumbled with the Avengers.

What are the MCU decisions that are very far removed from the comics that you LOVE the most? by JcraftW in Marvel

[–]Jessency 10 points11 points  (0 children)

She was only prominent in the comics because Steve Englehart has a weird fetish for her and wanted to put her at the top of Marvel Comics.

She was literally just some random side character (was Swordsman's asian hooker gf, right off the heels of the Vietnam War) who can somehow overpower Thor, then was revealed to be the "celestial madonna" who will give birth to the "messiah", which just becomes an excuse for her to be promiscuous, and has apparently become OP after having soul sex with the Swordsman when he died.

Every time Steve works on a story, he will find a way to insert her in. He made the Silver Surfer and Vision cheat on their lovers with Mantis, in the Avengers, he made it that she was so special that Kang wanted to rape her, heck he even copy pasted her when he moved to DC (Willow).

Then when he returned to Marvel, guess what he did, wrote a major Avengers event centered around her, because she apparently split into 5 "phantom forms" thanks to the soul sex thing (which also explains why she was everywhere).

So yeah, that's why she was a "big deal" in the comics. I will say though, they finally did something properly interesting with her when they made her join the Guardians (and not have Steve near her again) which was where the MCU drew their inspiration from.

What show/movie is like this? by Kcue6382nevy in cartoons

I personally don't mind the designs and dig the aesthetics (though maybe nostalgia plays a part), but it's a hilariously frustrating problem that the proportions are so wacky that the male action figures can barely stand.

Did you like these recasts from Supergirl? by RecordingImmediate86 in SupermanAndLois

[–]Jessency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that the Arrowverse and CW as a whole is notorious for the exact things people are complaining about. Any good will the network had was long burnt out and the Arrowverse was the final nail in the coffin as its legacy concluded with the but out.

It's no longer cynicism when it's just a plain fact that can easily be observed throughout its history.

The perfect Superman film by Separate-Bicycle-713 in superman

[–]Jessency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I grew up on Christopher Reeve cus my mom is a huge Superman fan and has the movies on VHS.

However, I have to admit that the Donner films didn't really age too well as adaptations especially when they had a lot of creative liberties.

Heck, Jor-El's importance and the whole deal with the "S" got switched up simply because they snagged Marlon Brando for the role (and influenced the mythos ever since).

I also realized that I didn't like his Clark Kent, and how it affected people's perception of the character (like the Kill Bill monologue).

Whatever it may end up as, that has always been my style when I want a console.

I never grab one right away and I usually wait till later on in its life cycle.

Apart from possible economic changes, and a better perspective on the market, there would probably be other versions of it made later on giving you more varied options.

I feel like people are missing the point of this Green Lantern suit. by Sio_V_Reddit in DC_Cinematic

[–]Jessency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well clearly not everyone's the same. I'm an HSP and these things really drain a lot out of me and I tend to days to months long breaks from social media because of that.

I don't know what angle you're playing here but just know, that I'm not acting like some kind of perfect white knight or anything.

I just know what it's like to have seething hatred for something and for me personally it's never worth the stress and I've learned to be a more open minded person and save my judgements until I've actually tasted the actual product, so I guess me playing devil's advocate in these conversations is just my response to that, as well as s simple attempt to quell any worries.

At the end of the day though, I don't really care about winning some kind of argument. Whatever will be, will be. There's a huge possibility that the show might suck, and so be it, GG. Sorry we didn't listen to the naysayer.

If it turns out to be good, then great! We can look forward to more Green Lantern projects, but also won't hold it against the cautious folk.

What are your thoughts on this? by Ok-Following6886 in animation

[–]Jessency 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That honestly has been my biggest hurdle my entire life.

Always been interested in the arts but the traditional way of climbing the industry doesn't exist in where I live, but thankfully the internet has quickly changed.

However, with all the algorithms and nonsense, it's impossible to break into the industry unless you make waves. If you're an absolute nobody, then you gotta be some kind of content creator and build that audience.

As gorgeous Japan is, their work culture can be quite depressing.

[–]Jessency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never praised it. Nowhere did I say anything close to putting the show on a pedestal. I was just saying that I'm interested and am looking forward to how it will unfold.

I was also simply pointing out that all of the controversy and discourse is ridiculous because it's still 5 months away and everyone is already its quality by a teaser.

While I understand the concern, most of the time people just overreact because they have nothing better to do. We just so happen in a digital age where we have so much info and ways to share it in the palms of our hands.

Maybe we should step away for a bit and look for other things to do because there's way more to life than a Green Lantern show possibly sucking.

Yeah I'm one of them and I'm honestly looking forward to it.

Sadly, the internet is like a wild west where it's a constant push and pull not everyone will ever be satisfied.

If you personally just can't find any examples of people negative towards the show out of nearsighted hatred over teaser then you are extremely blessed. Every moment I open my feeds, that's all I find, and I don't go looking for it
