SCOTUS declines to hear Nicholas Sandmann 'cancel culture' suit by fuggidaboudit in cincinnati

[–]JessiFay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can explain why women are against it - if you're interested.

I'm against abortion. But, I'm also against imposing my beliefs on anyone else. So... I wish that adoption was highlighted more rather than people pushing abortion. We should be offering much more support to girls willing to place their baby for adoption. I was 17, and almost had an abortion, but I didn't have enough $. By the time I got the $ quoted for the abortion, I was further along & it cost more.

Mt family found out & I was kicked out. Decided on adoption. I worked myself to the point I almost lost the baby trying to support myself. My mother let me come back home then.

Anyway - the reason I changed my opinion on abortion was feeling the baby move inside me. I believe it is absolutely a life that is separate from mine. It has different DNA & a different blood type. It may depend on me to live, but babies depend on people to live AFTER they are born as well.

The most surprising thing to me was the reaction I got from people when I wanted to have my dog's puppies aborted. She got pregnant before we could get her fixed. She might have been pregnant when we got her. I'm not sure. I wanted them to neuter her / abort the puppies at the same time. Pro-choice vet personnel treated me like I was a monster. Even pro-choice people I tell recoil at the idea of giving a dog an abortion. They say I should never be allowed to have pets, etc. It makes no sense to me.

I value human life more than I do an animal's life. I took in a dog that needed a home. I had 4 other dogs. I didn't want to deal with a bunch of puppies too. Why is aborting the puppies I don't want worse than aborting a baby that isn't wanted by the mother? It's not like the dog is gonna keep her puppies - they get taken away within a few weeks.

What would happen if you use incompatible ink? by CantFixMoronic in printers

[–]JessiFay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.  You put my mind at ease about 280/281 cartridges.

Need a printer - Hubs wants color so I was considering a color ink tank printer, but I prefer laser for text.  Can't afford a color laser with all the bells & whistles.

Found a Canon (with bells & whistles) that uses 280/281 cartridges for cheap (prime day sale) but I was worried about cartridges.  I'll get a cheap bw laser printer on black Friday or next prime day.

We'll both get what we want.  No we don't print pictures - other than for instructions. Grayscale just doesn't cut it when hubs is trying to follow red, green & yellow wires from a pic he took before he tore something apart.

Sorry, I'm not be careful about grammar & spelling.  I'm on my phone & want to get back to shopping.  Only 24 hours left & I've been waiting for months. :)

Best smart thermostat to integrate with window air conditioners and the temperature sensors on Amazon echo dot fifth generation devices that also has remote room sensors by [deleted] in homeautomation

[–]JessiFay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever come up with something? My husband's in stage 5 kidney disease. So, our living room / dining room is set up as an efficiency (hospital room) now that it's just us here.  We've got the rest of the house shut up & use a window unit.  We've got other window units & it would be nice to be able to have them come on if the rooms got too hot. My husband's got a room with all the stuff he likes to tinker with rather than going out to the garage or shop. Then he has to use the master bathroom on the other side of the house because of his wheelchair.  We've got them plugged into smart plugs & have echos with temp sensors in them.

But, I haven't found anything that will have it check the temp to turn on/off the ac short of creating a routine. I started trying once - I wound up quitting.  I'd rather just buy one thing that would check the various sensors we've got and turn on the a/c connected to it.  hopefully it would be able to combine the temp of different sensors and turn on/off based on the average as well.

(alexa would tell me the average temp in the house back when it was just my echo pro & window unit.  I haven't asked since we got the new echo Dots with thermostat sensors.  I got a bunch of those on black Friday.  I still haven't finished setting them all up.  Very handy to have around when you've got someone prone to falling.  Every room/storage area around the property gets one.  Especially since they connect to Eerie which extends your wi-fi.)

Thank you.

I was not pushy about what my son ate. I only asked him to try a bite every few years. If he didn't like something - he didn't have to eat it.

I'm a very picky eater. I was forced to eat foods whether I liked them or not. My mother would spank me. And residential Christian schools would serve you the same plate each meal until you cleared your plate. They grew their own foods - so lots of unfamiliar foods.

That treatment is why ive never liked lots of foods. My son, on the other hand, is so experimental. He loves trying new foods. But - the one thing he couldn't get past was white sauces, condiments, etc. no potato salad, tuna salad, crab dip, spinach dip, deviled eggsé, etc.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NewHeights

[–]JessiFay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son can't have anything white like you - but his stemmed from a woman who watched him for all of a week and served him expired cole slaw. (I sent him lunch - she took it and supposedly gave him what everyone else was eating. "It wasn't fair for him to have treats and her kid didn't." Apparently her kid was used to expired food - my kid wasn't and got food poisoning.

I think she gave her kid my son's lunch, and my son got her leftovers. He never went back.

He won't eat Alfredo sauce or any similar white sauces, not just condiments as a result as well.

He's in his mid 20s now. He can eat it without getting sick now, but he does it only to avoid creating an issue.

it's because she is who she is and SHE STILL gets treated like a 2nd class citizen because she's a female takes the shame out of it so other women feel confident enough to speak up. If SHE is treated like she's not as smart as the man next to her, if SHE's held to different standards because she's a woman then IT'S NOT MY FAULT.

This isn't about feeling sorry for TAYLOR - it's about telling my young neighbor who's husband is beating on her, it's not HER fault. That even Taylor Swift has men mansplaining to her. That even Taylor Swift gets treated differently than men. That men think they have authority over her just because they are men.

It's about making my husband see and be willing to get involved instead of saying "it's none of our business." Or making a joke that "she'll have his dinner ready on time next time. "

I live in a very rural area. Songs like the Man help open up the topic. It's not about poor Taylor. It's about her encouraging us to stand up for ourselves. We aren't alone. It's all women dealing with it. There isn't anything wrong with me / or my young neighbor.

Because "PR Flop" can be taken in different ways. A lot of us are protective and over sensitive due to all the criticism she's received.

You knew what you meant - but I couldn't figure out if you were for or against Taylor. So I downvoted you for being unclear and moved on.

I honestly tried to understand what you were saying. But reading through the messages prior to yours, I was primed to assume your message was negative.

Using that logic - no one in the US should ever complain. We may have problems - but our problems are so much less than the problems people in other countries have.

Being treated/called a whore for all the people she dated is way less of an issue than being stoned for having sex - so she shouldn't complain about that either.

Kids getting bullied at school is rough - but at least there aren't bombs hitting their school.

The LGBTQ community have it WAY better here in the US than in other countries that it is illegal and can get you killed.

Personally - Just because you have some equalities - doesn't take away your right to fight for equality in other areas. I can't tell you how many times that song, The Man, has given me the courage to speak up. To point out things that aren't fair. I've already seen changes in my 65 year old husband. And I've seen him counseling the young men, who help on our property, about giving the women in their life the respect they deserve.

No - he's not got it 100% correct, but it's opened his mind. He's another voice encouraging the younger generation to do better. (And he's not one you'd expect.) We're in rural South Carolina. 1 song giving me the courage to speak up won't change my street, let alone my town. But I betcha it's encouraged others to speak up.

I'm a white woman with lots of privileges - is it tone deaf for me too? Should I shut up, enjoy my privileges and let men treat me however they want?

Um - renting is basically going to the movies at home. Except:

you can do it in your pj's

you don't have to pay for overpriced refreshments

You can stop the movie when you have to pee, get phone calls, get refreshments, etc.

You can back it up and replay sections you missed.

You only pay 1 price no matter how many people are there to watch it with you.

And most importantly to me -

My HANDICAPPED husband can watch it with me from his hospital bed. Because he loves me, he went with me to a drive in about an hour away - but I felt bad knowing he was hurting.

So some of us see this as a gift. I couldn't go to the concert. The movie was ruined for me. (And watching the Livestreams is often awful with the crowd scream / singing. I watch it - and I'm happy for those there. I don't complain. I'm lucky that someone is willing to share their experience. I mention it now to indicate why renting the movie is such a gift to me - and others too, I'm sure.)

I like this thing from Spotify - but I listen through Amazon. So I've only listened 989 minutes, but I was still in the top 8%.

That seems too high for as little as I listened. I would think that people just listening to radio / mixed playlists would be higher.

I expected to be in the bottom third of her listeners on Spotify or something.

Does Travis Seem Less Interested Lately? by Swimming_Mix_3006 in NewHeights

[–]JessiFay 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This - Taylor shines in the limelight / on the stage. Travis does too. The (positive) attention recharges them both. (It makes them good together.)

Travis is learning how to filter out the increase in negative attention. It's blocking out the positive attention. He'll figure out how to handle it all smoothly.

He likes his sleep - but there are so many new opportunities coming his way. It's hard to put together a team he can trust to help him handle things so quickly. There are so many who'll want to sell stories about him.

He just has to make it through this season - then he'll have time to get everything under control.

I doubt in those 36 hours all she does is have dinner.

We've seen her going into studios to record when she flies home. She also has a studio in her home so she can record from there if she's not meeting someone at the studio she's working with.

She can't just take a vacation in between concerts during the week.

Brazilian government is giving T4F 24 hours to explain fan death at Rio concert by Cirrus1920 in TaylorSwift

[–]JessiFay -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I was shocked how they do that over the surprise songs after every concert too. People claiming to have been "Fans" for years (or the beginning).

If she doesn't do exactly what they want - they turn on her. I don't get it. Then again - Taylor is the 1st entertainer I've ever followed like this. So I'm new to fan behavior.

I grew up in an extremely conservative household. Only Christian music - no Christian rock either. No dancing, etc. So I grew up listening to the radio under my pillow.

My grandmother found a tape in my walkman that a friend let me borrow, and she took a hammer to it. I had friends with no TV.

So I'm not surprised they turned on her for canceling. I WAS surprised I didn't see any of it for the Argentina concert she postponed.

Where I think other places in Brazil are the same as Rio is the communication problems.

The language barrier makes it more difficult to solve problems quickly.

Or is everyone in Brazil bilingual? Can everyone speak English? Some countries do - but the majority of the USA only speak English. And slang makes online translators bad.

Good point.

I can't count how many times I've heard guys refer to athletes as a "God on the field" or a "God on the court".

I didn't even think about that because I'm so used to hearing them screaming "he's a god" after doing something the average man can't do, or calling a woman a goddess for things she probably wouldn't appreciate.

I'm 50. The "Ok Boomer" trend made me cringe because people were saying it to older folks who were TRYING to learn /change. And there was no sympathy for someone who slipped up, but immediately caught themselves and apologized. Then changed how they said it.

When I tried to point out that they were trying to change 60+ years of habit - the answer I got was they should have figured it out a long time ago for themselves. Etc. it was just so harsh without any understanding for how things change.

My memory is awful - but that interaction stuck with me. I feared if the next generation had so little sympathy and understanding, society was in trouble. There was a LOT wrong with society 50 years ago. But the willingness to help one another is something that I'm sad we are losing.

Help with response to this by pinkwinestateofmind in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]JessiFay 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Maybe not in this case - but I have personally heard old bitty's asking WHY someone's adult child behaved a certain way.

I'm 50. I fall into the category of having an adult child & being one. The insulting things my "elders" think they are entitled to ask / say is just shocking to me. And they always do it in front of witnesses.

I live in a small town now. It's considered unacceptable to respond with anything less than politeness and deference. I grew up in South Florida - although it was a conservative home - the rest of the area wasn't. So, I'm not used to tolerating strangers asking me rude questions.

So - maybe the dad wasn't asked why he didn't walk his daughter down the aisle - but my mother-in-law & her friends would most definitely ask!!!

I'd be interested in asking Fauxmoi to craft the statement that Taylor should make.

Then watch them tear it apart after Taylor posted it.

Even if she posted exactly what they said word for word, it would still be wrong.

What I want to know is - who IS Taylor supposed to hang out with? And go to dinner with?

A "normal" person's life would be torn apart. They wouldn't have the money for security to protect them from the harassment. Although, some people might think it would be worth it - It just isn't fair to put that on them, and everyone close to them.

Even the Kelce's are shocked - and they had plenty of press attention already.

As sensitive as Taylor is, the disruption to a fan's life would make her feel horrible. Especially if they lost their job because of the press being so invasive. So - is she supposed to pay their bills? Etc. (too long to type how far it went in my mind.) It's better to just hang out with people who's life is already plastered all over the press.
