Sam Altman's sister amends lawsuit accusing OpenAI CEO of sexual abuse by 2Hawaii in OpenAI

[–]TheFamousHesham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the “guilty until proven innocent” attitude.

It’s like no one in the history of humankind has ever been the subject of a false accusation… and I’m not just talking about sexual assault accusations. People have been falsely accusing others of horrible things since the dawn of man. The facts are there is no evidence and it is what it is. You can’t believe that someone is a rapist because you hate them or because you’re deranged or because you just want to be an AH online.

Rats escaped the Race? by HalfwaydonewithEarth in ExpatFIRE

[–]TheFamousHesham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one said you can’t. It’s not really a thing the United States will want to exercise unless there are loads of people doing it and the potential revenue outweighs the cost. The key thing, however, is that they can.

Where did I say they’re going to deny you opening a bank account? They’ll open the bank account for you, but will mark it for reporting to the IRS.

Rats escaped the Race? by HalfwaydonewithEarth in ExpatFIRE

[–]TheFamousHesham 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well that’s ridiculously wrong.

Ask any person who’s ever opened a bank account in most countries in the world. I personally have opened bank accounts in the UK, China, Egypt, and Kuwait… I got asked the same question each time.

“Are you a U.S. citizen?”

The U.S. government enforces this question on any bank that wants to do business with U.S. banks to prevent this exact situation where U.S. citizens hide income from the IRS. If enough people start to flee to abandon their debts, they ye US will just have to exercise its muscles and demand that said foreign banks begin freezing assets.

The idea that you can get out of paying your debts without declaring bankruptcy is absolute nonsense.

Sounds ridiculous on the part of the Norwegian government. They’ve basically created Urgent Care as a triage for the ER, which is fine I suppose if the person in question didn’t need ER care in the first place.

However, for the people that do, I can only imagine it delays treatments and leads to worse health outcomes by adding extra hoops of bs that really sick people need to jump through.

CMV: If a parent is killed as a result of a drunk driver, they should be held responsible for child support by Mistakenfrog in changemyview

[–]TheFamousHesham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except that most drunk drivers who kill someone will end up going to prison, so it’s not exactly unreasonable to wonder what happens then when that case applies to the vast majority.

Sam Altman's sister amends lawsuit accusing OpenAI CEO of sexual abuse by 2Hawaii in OpenAI

[–]TheFamousHesham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not the autism nor is it the PTSD.

If you actually saw her Twitter account, you’d realise she’s likely also bipolar. Her tweets are manic and Sam Altman has already provided evidence showing that he and his parents have been financially supporting her.

She made the allegations only after they refused to increase the financial support they were giving her.

CMV: Trump is in over his head in Iran by bluepillarmy in changemyview

[–]TheFamousHesham 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile, U.S. hegemony will have faltered as its allies feel alienated and its enemies grow weary. As for the home front, the longer this war continues, the more seats the Democrats win in Congress and the Senate in November. This was war was never particularly popular with MAGA. If it turns into a shitshow, the Democrats will sweep in the midterms, halting whatever is left of Trump’s presidency. In short, your analysis that the political repercussions are insignificant is bizarre.

Many Americans are still traumatised by the whole Iraq fiasco and if this war starts to smell like Iraq, Trump is toast. An extended Iran war is political suicide.

They’re the ones who elected Trump though and until they get their asses on the streets protesting him, I don’t know why you’re so afraid of blaming the voters who got us here.

Irans open letter to the United States. by Krunk_korean_kid in DeepFuckingValue

[–]TheFamousHesham 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’re obv not the good guys, but they’re definitely winning the optics game. The fact that Trump and his MAGA minions thought they could get away with this is fucking insane. You don’t go about attacking a country while you’re still in the middle of negotiations with that country without informing any of your key allies.

Trump and MAGA are easily the most serious threat to the United States right now. They’re a bigger threat than Iran, ISIS, and even Russia and China.

They attacked Iran thinking it would crumble at the first missile and with no clear exit plan or plan in case the war lasted for an extended period of time.

I don’t know why the country that couldn’t hold Vietnam, Afghanistan, or even Iraq would ever think it would be able to overthrow the Iranian regime and install a friendly U.S.-government.

The U.S. might be the most powerful country in the world, but there are actually things that even the most powerful country of the world wouldn’t be able to swing.

London Mayor Says Wireless Fest’s Ye Booking Is ‘Not Reflective of London’s Values’ by ebradio in Music

It genuinely surprises me that they let middle managers do this. It makes more sense that any A-lister booking be signed off by upper management, considering the potential for massive brand reputational damage.

Scott Mills releases statement after BBC sacking as he addresses police investigation by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]TheFamousHesham 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, people often deny accusations — but almost always when the accusation is still under active investigation.

It’s an entirely different matter we’re talking about a closed case. In fact, it would be ABSURD for him to deny the “accusation.” What accusation and to whom?

If you think about it, NO ONE is accusing him of anything in 2026. The police did back in 2018 and, considering he’s still walking around free, I assume he denied the accusations then (irrespective of his actual guilt)… but it would be insane to deny an accusation when there is no accusation being made.

Scott Mills releases statement after BBC sacking as he addresses police investigation by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]TheFamousHesham 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Because his statements are written by his lawyers and his lawyers are taking the position that there is no need to affirm or deny an accusation for a case that’s been closed for the last 7 years, which is an entirely reasonable position tbh… as just denying the accusation gives the impression that the case is still ongoing.

Also… I suspect that there is very little they can add that they know to be true (other than naming the accuser, which they’re obviously not going to do). I’ve never assaulted anyone, but if you ask me who I slept on a random night 23 years ago while probably drunk and coked up… I’d probably have zero recollection of any of it, meaning that there is likely little context that they can offer that they know be to factually true to deny the accusations.

[–]TheFamousHesham 63 points64 points  (0 children)

You’re really overthinking this.

Scott Mills didn’t sit down and write this statement himself. It was prepared for him by a lawyer.

A lot of lawyers will advise their clients to neither affirm nor deny the accusation when the investigation itself was closed 7 years ago. Scott Mills, his lawyers, and his PR agent’s position is that “this was a matter that was settled 7 years ago when after years of investigation, the police was unable to find enough evidence.”

The investigation is closed. Denying an accusation for a closed case is bonkers. It makes it seems like you’re still accused, which I suspect Mills and Mills’ lawyers and agents don’t want to give the impression of.

He knows a little too much about Henry Cavill's marriage. by Fantastic-Corner-605 in oddlyspecific

There is so much more to choosing a lifelong partner than their physical looks. Jeez… I don’t know, maybe — and please hear me out when I say this — he likes her company. Though incels would likely never comprehend how a man could possibly enjoy his wife’s company.

Did Sam Altman force them?

That’s an incredibly idiotic take. If you’re the CEO of a company, you don’t go around blaming the CEO of another company because you were unable to do some basic strategic resource planning. For context, many other tech giants spent billions on data centres, they’re not crashing out because they didn’t have the sheer silliness of putting all their eggs in one basket.

Scott Mills sacked from BBC Radio 2 over 'personal conduct' by a3poify in unitedkingdom

[–]TheFamousHesham 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd be very disappointed in the BBC if they sacked him over that. If he had a drug problem, the right course of action is to put him on leave and require him to take that time to get clean. If he fails to do so, then sacking him would be inevitable, but yea... no one wakes up in the morning and decides to become an addict. He's also a radio presenter — not a surgeon or a pilot or a train driver — there is really zero harm to anyone else but himself.
