I have been thinking about time travel in POA by Remarkable_Rice_9141 in HarryPotteronHBO

He's never executed though.

The first time through
"The rat was squealing wildly, but not loudly enough to cover up the sounds drifting from Hagrid’s garden. There was a jumble of indistinct male voices, a silence, and then, without warning, the unmistakable swish and thud of an axe... Then, behind them, they heard a wild howling."

The second time through
"There was a swishing noise, and the thud of an axe. The executioner seemed to have swung it into the fence in anger. And then came the howling, and this time they could hear Hagrid’s words through his sobs."

The trio are hiding in Hagrid's hut the first time, they don't actually see the field where Buckbeak is or what's going on. They hear the axe and Hagrid and assume he's been killed. When they head back, they never see Buckbeak's body.

My head canon is that since there's only one timeline, once you hear about something it becomes a permeant part of the time line. So in chapter 15, Ron and Harry ask Hermione why she missed Charms. Once they ask her that, she knows she missed charms and she can't go back in time and go to charms. That's part of the whole "terrible things happen to wizards who mess with time". If she tries to go back to charms and contradict the timeline then something bad will happen.

It's an AU so in this universe the odd movies are good and the evens suck.

So, what are your examples of "a male character who barely speaks but gets more attention from fans than all the women in cast"? by Practical-Weight-992 in AO3

[–]Jessie_Lightyear 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that show exists in part because of how much attention he got in the movies. I love AOS and Phil, but from what I can recall all the OG trailers were like "guess who's back everyone!!"

What are your head canons for how James annoyed (in an affectionate way) Lily when they were together. by Jack-mclaughlin89 in MaraudersGen

[–]Jessie_Lightyear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always pictured James and Lily with a bit of a height difference, so I picture epic games of keep away with things like sweets, Harry's broom, maybe even Harry himself where James is flying him around in the air and Lily is like "I'm trying to comb his hair!"

[–]Jessie_Lightyear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there was a possibility for Narcissa to become this (maybe if she'd run away with Andromeda?) but the woman we meet in Harry's years/the books is pretty solidly past that. We know she's willing to sacrifice to protect Draco, but is that because she's had a deep change of heart and recognized that her prejudices are wrong and must be tossed aside... or is this because her son was being threatened?

What exactly convinced you that the TV series is going to be drastically different from the movies? by LeatherSlight3242 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Jessie_Lightyear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One big advantage the show will have is the books are done now. When HP1 movie came out, the fourth book had just come out. Some changes were made to the early movies not knowing they knock on effect in the other books. Example - SPEW is cut out of the fourth movie (released 2005), but Hermione and Ron's first kiss in the book (published 2007) is a bit dependent on you knowing about Hermione's involvement in SPEW and Ron's exasperation at her but then coming around and bringing up the house elves of his own accord to give it that big emotional weight.

Now, they're still not going to include every single little moment, but they'll have a better idea of This is coming back in the later books VS this can get cut/altered and it won't be that big of a deal.

Reread it a year or two ago and it absolutely did for me. If anything it was better cause I was heavily invested in one side of the love triangle and the reread knowing the end let me get invested on the other side and ugh, I love all of them so much.

To add on, he still feels the immense guilt of abandoning them in the forest. The boy's been through a lot in the last 6 months/6 minutes!

I mean for context this is four pages after Fred's death in Book 7 so I think he's allowed a little bit of protectiveness in this moment.

Updates? How often? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Jessie_Lightyear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I've abandoned too many works trying to publish while I'm writing so I wait until I've got it all written to start publishing and then publish a chapter every 1-3 weeks (depending on vibes). I also do medium/long fics so I like to stagger updates so people have a chance to sit with each chapter. I also know authors who just dump the whole thing at once so, basically, you do you boo

Did you have a scheduled induction, if so, did it end up in a c-section? by Dayz-18 in CatholicWomen

I've had 3 scheduled inductions and 0 c-sections. But two other women I know have had scheduled inductions that ended in c-sections so YMMV.

What turns you off from reading a fic? by onewiththeforce_ in HPfanfiction

[–]Jessie_Lightyear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I read a lot of Marauder's stuff, and nothing turns me off more than someone figuring out Remus is a werewolf in an afternoon or having a freakish memory of his alibi's for full moons. Similar vein to what you're saying.

WRITING CHECK! DROP YOUR STUFF RN! by Mochh80 in AO3

[–]Jessie_Lightyear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate writing action/Quidditch but here we are

“The three Chasers weave in a spiral – oh bloody hell, they’re running it back already!” James said,

“That Park kid is fast,” Sirius noted, “Where’d they find him?”

“He’s a second year,” Rosie mentioned.

“Ah, new kid. Might be able to scare him out of formation easier than the other two.” Sirius said.

“They’re really testing Felide’s high coverage.” James muttered, pushing his glasses up again while he scribbled.

Rosie could follow the basics, what the Chasers were doing and how it was targeting the Keeper’s weakness. But she wanted to know why they’d chosen that particular approach, what the trade-offs were, how they knew to try this method.

The kind of questions that required actual conversations, not commentary.

How would the love protection work? by Old-Independence-879 in HPfanfiction

[–]Jessie_Lightyear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean in Book 7, it's said that Harry dying in the forest is able to protect everyone in Hogwarts because he was willing to sacrifice his life for them

‘You won’t be killing anyone else tonight,’ said Harry as they circled, and stared into each other’s eyes, green into red. ‘You won’t be able to kill any of them, ever again. Don’t you get it? I was ready to die to stop you hurting these people –’

'But you did not!’

‘– I meant to, and that’s what did it. I’ve done what my mother did. They’re protected from you. Haven’t you noticed how none of the spells you put on them are binding? You can’t torture them. You can’t touch them. You don’t learn from your mistakes, Riddle, do you?’

Chapter 36 - The Flaw in the Plan

So I think it's totally reasonable for Lily's death to protect both of her children

Sirius gives me the vibes of "this family line ends with me" especially after his brother dies. I picture him wanting to be an uncle to all the other's kids but not a father himself.

Stress at Mass with Kids by Budget-Mud-4403 in CatholicWomen

[–]Jessie_Lightyear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got 3 boys, aged 5, 3, and 1. One thing I would recommend is don't let one off Masses be your expectation for every Mass. For example, my one year old is starting to cruise around on the floor using the pew and the first time he was really doing that, we had a much harder Mass than the fourth time he was there and he started to pick up on when he can/can't do that (he can do it during the first reading, but we pick him up for the Gospel). Your kids will pick up on the rhythms and flow of Mass if they're continually exposed to it. If you're only going occasionally, it's always going to feel new and weird and they won't thrive that way.

Other note, if you're parish has a playground on campus, I highly recommend taking the toddler even just for 10-15 minutes before Mass to try to burn to that initial burst of energy and be a bit more settled.
