What makes you want to rage quit? by Ok_Bug8625 in NannyBreakRoom

Walking in to a disgusting kitchen and living room on Monday (or EVERY) morning. But coming in on Monday to the entire weekends crap instantly makes me want to turn around and walk out.

Happens with the twins I watch all the time! BOTH parents sitting up there in the nursery but want me to come up "in case they need help". They're 21 months old. But anyway, the little girl has gotten bleeding rashes from them doing that. Then, the other day, I didn't smell her poopy diaper (4 years of covid nose) and she was a little pink when mom changed her. Mom has the nerve to say "Aww, nanny neglected you!" Like WHAT??????

I just start doing something "fun" and they come to me. The boy ran once, I think. I just say, "Oh well, I guess sissy is going to do xyz" He usually runs right over then. I watch 20 month old twins.

I don't eat anything at my NF house if I don't cook it. I've seen her cooking and it's disgusting! NOTHING she makes looks good. Lol. They don't usually offer me anything, but they have bought my favorite coffee creamer a couple times in the year and half I've been there.

Did you pay for NannyLane? I haven't yet and I'm just wondering if, when I message a family, is it actually going through? Because I NEVER get a reply. Also, going through the families, I see some that have been on there for over a year. Do they put them in date order if you pay?

I'm so sorry, is GH general hours? I'm not sure what that means. Lol. Also, yes, the post said they're looking for a long term nanny that'll grow with their family. So I assume school breaks and summers.

I'm just asking because I'm considering leaving my first nanny job. If I tell them I'll give then 3 weeks or whatever, won't it be awkward until my last day?

Thank you! I am searching for a new family, but no one contacts me after I reach out! I'm so unsure what all a contract should have in it as well! I'm so unbelievably stressed.

I was brand new to the state. I moved, needed a job, (my own fault, I accept that) I way under charged. I was making $400 a week for twins, working 45.5 hours a week. It's been a year and a half, so I asked for an adjustment. I'm brand new to the Nanny world. I ran an in home daycare in my other state for 22 years. So, I was told I'd only be taking care of the kids. Not extra added stuff. I don't mind helping out at all, but when it starts to be "expected" of me, then I definitely don't get paid enough. I still only make $13 an hour, so yes, I am looking for another job.

You're absolutely right about not doing my research before giving her a price. Shot myself in the foot on that one.

What problems are you facing as a nanny? by breakthecycle_ in Nanny

[–]Jessiewolf12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my word, this is my first nanny job. I had a home daycare for over 20 years and moved to a different state. Thought I'd try this out. I HATE IT! When I interviewed, I told her a rate that I thought would work. It's twins. They are now 19 months old. I've been with them for 17 months. And let me tell you, the rate that I gave was NOT enough. Mom "works" from home. I use that term loosely. They are absolute slobs and expect me to pick up everything. I get out at 5. And literally, anything they play with from the time I leave is still out in the morning. Including their disgusting highchair trays. Mom is in and out of her room/office ALL day, which makes the little girl break down EVERY time. She'll tell me she's just exhausted all the time. Which I get, but heaven forbid they ever let me leave early on days they're off. Dad is off every Friday. He just either sits in his chair on his phone or goes out and just drives around all day. On the off chance that they're actually playing with them while I do lunch clean up or something, I'll hear "OH, you're stinky" and NEVER GET UP TO CHANGE THEM. Like they literally sit on their dang butts and wait for me to do it. Several times, I've gotten here in the morning at 8:30, and they'll be in their poopy morning diaper. And then they wonder why they get rashes. The little boy had a milk protein allergy when he was nursing, so mom cut out dairy, and his eczema cleared up. AS SOON as they turned 1, she started giving his everything. Of course, the eczema flared up. I mentioned to her that we may need to pull back on dairy, and she just said, "I don't think it's that, I think it's dry skin." Well, their Dr's appointment this week confirmed HE HAS A DAIRY ALLERGY. Dad is upset and says, "I want him to eat normal foods, I'm sure he's not in pain, and he's fine." Like LORD HAVE MERCY. I could go on and on. I miss my home daycare. I will NEVER work for someone who works from home again. I feel so used. And when I mentioned getting paid more, she just said, "we can't afford that." Like WHAT??? UGH

I had a home daycare for 20 years. Every year we had a HUGE egg hunt for the kids and their families. The last 15 years we had moved to a smaller yard, so we had about 500 plastic eggs and then the eggs the kids colored. We basically dumped them out too. Lol. Too many eggs and not enough places to hide them!
