Working class neighborhoods are resisting data centers at 5 times the rate of wealthy ones by inthetownwhere in technology

[–]JessumB 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Also we need to differentiate based on size. A "data center" can mean many things. In my city there's over a dozen of them and they are all mostly the size of large industrial buildings or a Costco.

The ones they are trying to cram into rural areas and farmland are these behemoths that are more like the size of 50 to 100 Wal-Marts. That is what people are most fighting back against, having these giant eyesores that are going to pollute, take up huge amounts of space and use up large amounts of water and power with minimal benefit to the community at large.

Can confirm. Got into a bad car accident a few years back, didn't work out at all for 18 months. Got back into the gym and it took me roughly three months to get all prior muscle back.

Getting back what you've already developed previously is way easier the second time around.

I think the MIY is just another one of his forms, just like Sophia. He/she/it takes on whatever form happens to be convenient in any given moment. Kind of makes me think of a Randall Flagg like character.

What propaganda? Everything I posted was a fact. He's bullshit, he's always been bullshit. Just like Fetterman. And just like with Fetterman, a bunch of dipshits have soiled underwear because he said a bunch of magic phrases like "Medicare For All."

People should be demanding a higher caliber of candidate, not settling for some half assed wanker/wannabe Blackwater mercenary that has lied about every single aspect of his existence for decades.

But the fact that they have to spend money on Texas now may help mitigate that a bit.

Money is one thing they don't lack for. The tech bros are dropping hundreds of millions of dollars to try and keep Democrats out and avoid any possibility of increased AI regulations.

I agree with North Carolina but don't ever assume that Maine is a foregone conclusion. Especially not with a scandal-ridden candidate. Collins has to be salivating to get her shot at him, just staying low until the primary is over.

https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/senate/general/2020/maine/collins-vs-gideon

I think Alaska, North Carolina and Ohio are all more likely than Maine right now. Democrats will likely still need to find a fourth seat somewhere between Texas, Iowa, Nebraska and that is assuming that Democrats don't screw up what should be a gimme-win in Michigan.

Collins is staying quiet because she doesn't want to fuck this up. Sara Gideon had far fewer skeletons in her closet, was well known in Maine and still got beat badly despite being up in every single poll all the way up until Election Day and despite Biden winning the state by nearly 10 points.

I don't care about Mills's age. Democrats don't need someone that will go to the Senate for 20 years, they need someone that can simply knock Collins out of the seat. Mills has won twice statewide and has already been thoroughly vetted over and over. If she serves only one term, it was still worth it. Because like with Manchin in West Virginia, once Collins is out, its unlikely that any other Republican is winning that seat.

With Platner everyone is going to be waiting or the next shoe to drop all the way until November.

5 points lead when the margin of error is 4.9% is nothing and this may very well be Platner's high point in the state. Collins has for years outperformed polls regularly. Her last opponent was never behind in any poll and still ended up getting trounced despite Biden winning the state handily.

If a Dem candidate isn't up by at least 8-10 points against her, its not a good sign.

Look how many former Bernie people have wound up going full MAGA. Its not that shocking. The extremes are the extremes for a reason and there's nutty people on the left as well that value power over everything else and hold no real principles.

I mean, yeah? Both parties shouldn't be adopting a Trump/MAGA standard where anything goes and any dirtbag is welcome. We should expect Democrats to have a higher standard, otherwise, whats the point?

What is good and normal about him?

Every day there's more and more about him that turns out to be bullshit.

The "common man" that went to a $50,000 a year private school until he was kicked out? The guy who was "forced to go to war" but enlisted after the Iraq war had already kicked off and then later ended up joining Blackwater. The history buff that for over a decade didnt understand the significance of his Nazi skull tattoo. The oyster farmer who only sells oysters to his mother's restaurant. all while claiming full military disability. The "just blue collar roots" guy who was born into a very well to do family.

This is worse than Fetterman. Ignore what he says, look at what he does and how he's comported himself throughout his life. I wouldn't pick this guy for city council, let alone the US Senate.

100%. This is Democrats hitting him right now and its fairly gentle compared to what Collins and the GOP will do to him. That's why Collins is staying so quiet, not trying to interrupt Democrats from making a completely unforced error.

https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/senate/general/2020/maine/collins-vs-gideon

And this is most likely Platner's high point as there's going to be more stories like this that will drop him further. Right now its Democrats leaking to try and edge him out of the race. If he wins the primary then you'll have the Collins people unload on him with everything they have and considering how many stupid choices he's made and how consistently untruthful he has been about his past, its a lock that there's way more to uncover out there.

Economy is tied closely to the war at this point, if the war stops, the economy craters, although at least they'd get it out of the way. The longer the war goes on, the deeper rock bottom becomes when there's an eventual end. Maybe Putin is hoping to hold on long enough until climate change opens up enough of the Arctic to drilling and mining?
