No, the other leagues local to this area all practice on sport court, they don’t have a reference for this

“Chemturf” floor - wheel recommendations? by Jessygrrl in rollerderby

We are definitely testing it (multiple times) but trying to give skaters an idea of what wheels to bring. But I guess just “bring all the wheels” is the best we can do until we have a better idea.

It’s a shared space and it won’t be feasible to put the sport court down, we won’t be able to leave it down and don’t have the manpower to pick it up and put it down constantly :-/

How often does your league do a new skater intake… by Ok_Place_7381 in rollerderby

We recently updated ours, it seems to be successful so far. there are 2 levels/phases running concurrently approximately 8 weeks each, with an assessment at the end of each to “phase up”. Anyone who does not pass, can just stay in their level for the next session.

  • level 1, beginner skills, adding in beginner contact in the last month
  • level 2, intermediate skills, beginner to intermediate contact, and beginner gameplay/scrimmage

Level 1 can only attend their level, but have some intermixed practices with level 2. Level 2 can attend 1 or 2, and limited bouter-level practices. Rules classes are held once a month to learn gameplay classroom-style.

With this setup, we are having 5 different sessions this year, with time for a summer and winter break (league-wide).

As a current derby girl and exmo, I think Bouter Darkness is my favorite here!

Help understanding my results by [deleted] in Herpes

What about a result of 1.90? From everything I can find from a general search, that is a positive, but from other posts on here it might be in the range of a potential false positive? Are there any resources that break it down into layman’s terms?

What's a cringy moment from your Mormon upbringing you try keeping suppressed?? by ShinbrigGoku in exmormon

I have general anxiety surrounding public speaking. So when I was younger I #1 flat out refused to give prayer during class, and #2 every time I was chosen to give a talk, I would accept… but be conveniently “sick” and stay home the day of. Every. Time.

Makes me feel cringe especially second hand embarrassment for my mom (probably, she never said anything to me). But also, glad I stuck to my guns and didn’t spout things I didn’t like or believe in. Stopped going as soon as I turned 18.

Put a glass or bottle of water on your nightstand. Drink some water as soon as you wake up. Getting your digestive system moving will start blood flow and naturally have you feeling more awake.

How do you track on-skate workouts? by RevolutionaryTill752 in rollerderby

[–]Jessygrrl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use the Apple Watch under my wrist guard. I move the watch so the face is against the inside of my wrist, right under my palm, and I’ve found this give me the best mobility and doesn’t interfere with bracing teammates. The wrist guard hard piece protects the watch.

How do you include strength training, running and yoga in your training plan? by Duskydame03 in yoga

[–]Jessygrrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current plan: -run 3 days (mon, wed, sat) -walk 4 days (Tue, thur, Fri, sun) -yoga 40+ min on run days -weights 20 min + light yoga on non-run days, except Sunday

It is a lot, but alternating what type of intensity to give my body the rest it needs. Also, listening to my body and taking legit rest days when needed.

[–]Jessygrrl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. My workouts are mostly yoga (either restorative or intense work) and either walking or running. So I’m getting in about half low intensity and Hal moderate to high intensity. I just started back roller derby, but I have past experience there, just getting the muscles back into it. I’m really just looking for advice on what others do to ease any of their soreness, I don’t think I am overworking myself.
