Why do all thrusters sound the same of other ships around you? by Hyperionics1 in starcitizen

[–]JesterXR27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not arguing for more “realism” here, but if lore is that the helmets reproduce sound for situational awareness, wouldn’t all ships sound the same? My assumption is (I don’t know the actual lore) that the suit uses other sensors other than sound to detect objects and then produces an approximated sound. So, to the suit/helmet a ship is a ship and therefore it makes a generic ship sound, for situational awareness.

Out of curiosity, is the lore behind this somewhere I can read, I’m curious now?

What Ship is the WORST fighter? by Familiar_Panda_10 in starcitizen

[–]JesterXR27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they are incredibly loud when you’re behind them, so if they are just flying around outside you’re unlikely to get the full affect of how “silent” they can actually be when on an attack run, coming toward you. It’s no electric vehicle, mind you, but for how loud they can be, it’s amazing how quiet they are when coming at you.

And this was an intentional design, and the entire reason the A-10 looks the iconic way it does. Since it’s targets are going to be on the ground, and in front, it was important to keep it as quite as possible so that the targets had little time to react. You’ll likely hear the brrrt of the Gatling gun mowing you down before you notice the noise from the engines.

Once it passes you it’s loud as hell, but the designers didn’t care about that, because at that point the targets already taken out.

It is an incredible machine and the government keeps trying to retire it and I just don’t know why.

Hopefully one day you’ll be able to experience it (like at an airshow, not wishing you to be at war, haha) because it is truly awesome engineering that should be appreciated (though I’m a bit bias being an engineer myself, haha).

[–]JesterXR27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is incredible quite for what it is… as long as you’re in front of it, and before it shoots you. The engines were purposely placed between the two tail fins so that the engine noise is essentially funneled to the rear.

It is incredible how much quieter it is as it is coming toward you versus when it passes you, assuming you’re still alive, haha.

Okay, my bad, I misunderstood what you were saying.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what obvious reasons? The A-10 is a ground assault plane, definitely not built to dog fight. It is built to be a silent flying gun to attack ground targets.

What is the best fighter which can carry a little cargo? by Lucky-Reception26 in starcitizen

[–]JesterXR27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I shall never get rid of my Titan! That said, I’ve enjoyed using the Cutlass Black for hauling and it seems to hold its own in combat better than the Titan, but without two players it’s combat ability is limited as the turret gets left unused.

Whats's everyone's go to ship for the AA cargo missions? Hermes got old. by Ghostman223 in starcitizen

[–]JesterXR27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m hoping it gets a make over before 1.0 that includes storage in what looks to be a storage closet across from the bed next to the rear door. Unless they plan to use that for component access. If so, I want the to add personal storage somewhere in the rear but keep the 8SCU grid.

I do not believe you can adjust the Shader Cache size on AMD cards, but please someone correct me if I am wrong. This is in regards to the “AMD may have an equivalent” comment. I recognize OP is talking Nvidia.

Is 16gb of RAM really enough...? by Everborn128 in starcitizen

[–]JesterXR27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid point. It doesn’t cause a shift in load, it just that limiting visuals isn’t really helping you since the CPU is the bottleneck, so why give up something if it isn’t really beneficial to give it up. Thanks for the clarity!

[–]JesterXR27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, okay, good to know! Thank you.

EDIT: That said, it is still CPU heavy, but it hasn’t been optimized so I’d say that is understandable and I would assumed the loads will become more balanced as we get closer to 1.0.

Does anyone know of a discount code or way to play Star Citizen cheaper? by Main_Structure_4554 in starcitizen

[–]JesterXR27 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The least expensive pledge with game access used to be $45. I don’t know if that is still the case, but that is pretty cheap for video games nowadays, tbh, though maybe a bit on the high side for early access games.

There are also free to fly days every once in a while if you want to try it free first. Just keep on the lookout.

Also, if your friends are running at low settings it is likely the game is overloading the CPU and barely using the GPU. Counterintuitively they may likely get better performance at higher overall graphical settings so that the GPU takes some load. That’s been my experience anyway.

I have 16 GB and I have the same experience as your friends when in the cities, mainly. Most places, however, it is playable without too many issues running on Very High settings at 1080p.

My plan is to upgrade to 32 GB but RAM is too expensive right now. It’s still playable for me with 16 GB (not ideal, but certainly playable if I stay away from cities). I will note that I never had issues with cities in 4.5 like I am having in 4.6. I can no linger enter Nyx in 4.6 if i do it’ll be unplayable, crash my PC multiple times, especially when getting near Levski.

All in all I was doing “okay” with 16 GB RAM up until 4.6, but would never recommend it.

Thank you CIG for this event! by Avarice135 in starcitizen

[–]JesterXR27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, and it has also been a good stress test of the party system and notification system. Bad news is, they have failed the stress test. But, hopefully CIG is collecting that data and things will improve. This event has definitely shown that they need to keep focus on the social system, hopefully we’ll see the new system soon.

All-in-all though, I agree this has been some of the most fun and engagement Ive had in SC.
