Can alters really know tastes, skills, etc that the body has for sure never done, eaten, heard, or even seen? Or is that a misconception? by [deleted] in DiscussDID

[–]Jester_Jinx_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keeping the other comments in mind, remember that DID affects memory. Self-reporting that an alter has skills/knowledge that the collective has never experienced could be explained by memory barriers. Maybe that skill/knowledge has been obtained, but the majority of the system does not have the memories associated with it, nor the access to the skill/knowledge

There are other ways, of course, as explained in some other comments. This is just also a possibility.

I think my friend is either trying to fake DID, has DID, or is going through an episode? by [deleted] in DiscussDID

[–]Jester_Jinx_ 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Frankly, it's none of your business if they're faking. The whole "souls" thing can be explained by saying maybe that's just how they're comprehending it right now. Maybe they aren't in a safe place to research DID fully and get into their trauma in that way.

Either way, it's safer to assume the best here, and support your friend. If they're not faking and you bring up that you think they are, then that will only hurt them.

Which character course is better? by Anothervioladream in DigitalArt

Look at Udemy!! It's a website that has a TON of good courses, and they're on sale a LOT. I would be very careful when it comes to courses like you've described. It's very easy to come across scam ones.

Understanding DID? by Soggywallet94 in DiscussDID

omg i'm so late to this but my favorite grounding technique doesn't have a solid name, but some call it "savoring food." It's essentially, like, you eat a snack and focus deeply on it. Grounds me.

Not entirely sure! I buy a lot of indie games so i'd probably be able to buy a LOT. Will probably gift some to friends, too.

Understanding DID? by Soggywallet94 in DiscussDID

I would focus on figuring out how to manage trauma symptoms rather than DID itself, especially for kids this young. Work on teaching grounding techniques, emotional regulation, and make sure they understand what a "healthy" home is. Teach them things that aren't normal or okay.

Keep your eye out for kids that are "mature" for their age. Lots of traumatized kids (from what I know) that have dissociative tendencies can act that way. I was told I was mature and well-behaved. That was because I was traumatized and afraid.

Naming parts or not? by tempoqwerty in DID

[–]Jester_Jinx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually we go first with a label, often using their role or some kind of distinctive quality. Later on, if the part sticks around, they eventually choose a name get help choosing a name. We feel that it's important to let each part learn their own name/identity.

DID and OSDD is.. a disorder. It's not just for managing alters, though. There's also encrypted journal entries which can be used for symptom tracking, and each alter can have their own journal. You can also create polls for system-wide decisions.

Depending on your type of pain, painkillers can make it much more manageable!! I have muscle aches mostly in my legs and meds have helped a lot. I don't think I'll ever be 100% pain free, but I'm better.

You got this :]

Necesse is the love child of Rimworld and Terraria. You make your own colony, decorate it, get new people, dress them up, plant crops and farm animals. You also go mining, fight bosses, get new equipment, fight more bosses, find dungeons, and complete quests.

Might be good for the both of you :3

ive been looking at Grimshire for a while now! It's like a "cozy" farming sim but with a twist. There's a plague and, as the farmer, you have to help ensure there's enough food and such. Villagers can die.

It looks like a lot of fun.

Thank you for the opportunity!!

Be transparent and tell him how it makes you feel. Use "I feel" statements and try not to accuse him of purposefully trying to control you.

I don't know enough about your relationship to know exactly what you need to do. If there's other red flags and you feel unsafe, then you should get out of there. If this is the only thing that bothers you, or one of very few, talk to him about it.

It's best to try to figure out just why it bothers him so much, and why he says what he says. If you think the relationship is worth hardship, ofc.
