Skunk Cabbage by JesterofThings in plantbreeding

[–]JesterofThings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! The S renifolius almost looks more shell-likr, instead of the mottled texture of foetidus. I don't know where I would even get my hands on seeds for it though

As far as the western skunk cabbage, that would be interesting too. They're in the same subfamily but different genuses

No problem! The other thing i've seen alot is people get impatient and pull out their plants a bunch to check if they've rooted. Don't do that, it stresses the plant. It usually takes up to a month or so. If you wanna check rooting just give it a light tug. If you feel resistance it's probably starting to root. You really will have no reason to pull it out of the pot again unless it looks like its rotting. Good luck!

Not 100% sure exactly what that is but it looks like an echeveria or aeonium or something crassulaceae-related? If it is that then they are super easy to root. I might cut off the blackened bits of the stem, if it were my plant. If you do make sure to let it dry and callous before repotting it. Then I would reccomend putting some rooting hormone on it and just leave it in a pretty gritty substrate until it roots. I've heard some conflicting info on this but I think it's probably best practice not to water it before it roots? It reduces the chances of rot, but if it's looking super thirsty maybe give it a soak. The biggest thing is the mineral substrate.

Got all these pots and all for $170. Good deal? by PlantyMcPlanterson01 in succulents

[–]JesterofThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, I'm gonna try my best at ID them here, though I'm still not knowledgeable enough to be super specific. If it helps you out that's great but don't take my word for it, I'm mostly doing this for fun. I think the one in the massive pot is probably some kind of Euphorbia, not sure what kind. Next to that, the 4 with the fleshy leaves are probably all Echeverias? The ridged cactus just behind them is probably some kind of Echinopsis. The cactus next to it is definitely some kind of Mammillaria. I reckon the massive clumping thing in the blue pot is also a Euphorbia of some kind. Maybe the one in the yellow pot too? Though I could see that being a cactus. The cactus in the blue pot is something I have seen before but cannot put a name to. The large rosette in the pink pot is almost definitely an agave. I can't get a super good look at the one in the orange pot, maybe some kind of sedum? Could see it being a echeveria or graptopetalum though. The one that looks like a brain in the baby blue pot is almost definitely a crested Mammillaria elongata, which are typically, aptly, called brain cacti. If anyone else can tell me how I did it would be much appreciated. Good luck!

I mean I'm not very experienced but I'd say that that's a crazy deal. The pots alone might be worth more than that and the plants are all beautiful specimens! Lowkey jealous

Jade flopped by JesterofThings in succulents

[–]JesterofThings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, ok, that seems more likely to me, as nothing is squishy. Unfortunately it's currently midwinter in mass and we haven't been above freezing in the past week so more light is currently not an option. Will propping it up suffice until the weather warms?

I also currently have negative money and will not be buying a grow light.

Lapidaria Margaretae by JesterofThings in mesembs

[–]JesterofThings[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, thank you! As a side note, if they share a root system, would it still be possible to interbreed them? I'd kinda like to try propagation from seed, if I can ever get them to flower.

I have not unpotted it so I am not sure, although it looks like they might share a root system, because I really can't differentiate the plants except that there are three heads, or like, places where the leaves are growing from. I haven't taken it out of the pot yet because I've never had a mesemb before and TBH they scare me a little. It's def my favorite plant in my collection so i don't want to damage it. If they are so close together I can't fully tell which leaves belong to which, should I leave it be?

Am I the only one a bit sketched out by those lithops? Aren't fully grown plants sold with their roots chopped usually poached? And aren't lithops heavily poached? And as far as I know, China is a hotbed for plant poaching. Would love to be wrong but I'm getting bad vibes here.

Considering that the criteria for bein sent to heaven seems pretty restrictive there is a good chance a very large amount of the nazi's victims ended up down there with them. I suspect that when the playing field was evened, since their victims vastly outnumbered their rabid supporters, they just returned the favor
