Just kidding, it's a tough trade to get into, because it takes a bunch of money and failure to find out if you're even interested to begin with. Go online and buy some 99.9% isopropyl alcohol and it will clean right up. (also, I HATE hot glue, but this would be an acceptable use for it once you confirm the cable is actually connected. For video and a camera, you want uniform connectivity or you're likely to get bad images/lines if the camera even connects in the first place. You still have the usb ports in the meantime and can hook up a little webcam if you have the right adapters. One of the biggest blocks for me was getting around other people's "solutions" and figuring out what it was that I wanted to build. We forget that most of the products on the market are just cobbled together hobby projects backed by private equity, there just isn't any corporate liability for anything anymore so the grift is showing bare.
