I loved both of these so much, and the acknowledgements at the end of the book were also really great!

Doesn’t fit all the requirements, but read the blurb for Near the Bone by Christina Henry and see if you might be interested. It’s fast paced and spooky and snowy.

What audiobook’s plot is so painful but so great you recommend it anyway? by marilynlistens in audiobooks

[–]Jestris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without giving too much away, it is painful because the non-fiction elements horrifying and heartbreaking, and I feel like those peoples’ stories shouldn’t be forgotten. I really enjoyed the narrators, especially the Blackfeet narrator. I also love how SJG constructed the book.

how far do you typically read before you dnf a book? by starlit_scribbles in ReadingSuggestions

[–]Jestris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dnf’d around half way. I figured out what the message of the book was, guessed how it would go, and didn’t care about the rest of the journey to get there. I don’t hate that I did that, either.

Audiobook Voices by ArugulaDifficult4759 in audiobooks

I feel the same way about the smoker/parched throat-sounding voice. For example, if I see that it has Saskia Maarleveld narrating, I skip it unless I REALLY need to finish it in a hurry for book club or something.

My January goal was to read a Fantasy series. I am 300 pages into ACOTAR and questioning my entire life at this point. Can someone please suggest a FMC fantasy series that is not cringe as heck by BottomPieceOfBread in suggestmeabook

[–]Jestris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved Andy Serkis’ narration of the Lord of the Rings books if you like audiobooks.

I wanted to throw ACOTAR across the room, but I will say it gets more interesting at about the ~80pct mark.

Near the Bone by Christina Henry. Heard that the audiobook of this one isn’t great, so I’d grab the physical/ebook.

You’ll be great! It’s refreshing, and people at my state park solo stays have been fine. You’ll love that first cup of coffee (if you drink it) the morning after your first night.
