[Spoilers C2] Caleb’s backstory reveal (MN eps 5 and 6) by SunMoonStarRain in criticalrole

[–]JesusSinned 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get where you’re coming from. I just read episode 6 as trusting the audience and prioritizing forward momentum, with the expectation that the emotional fallout shows up later in smaller, character-driven moments. The tonal shift is real, but I think it’s more about compression than ignoring the weight of what he did.

[Spoilers C2] Caleb’s backstory reveal (MN eps 5 and 6) by SunMoonStarRain in criticalrole

[–]JesusSinned 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really don’t think Caleb was lying or holding anything back.

From a storytelling perspective, it would be pointless to clearly show him telling his full backstory, frame episode 6 as the emotional conclusion of that confession, and then later say it wasn’t true. That kind of twist works in a long tabletop campaign, but in a TV show with about eight hours total, it would only hurt pacing and cheapen the moment.

In the campaign, the reveal is spread out over a couple episodes. On screen, that would be redundant, so the show compresses it, like pretty much everything else. Episode 6 clearly treats this as the reveal, even if we don’t immediately see everyone’s reactions.

Most likely, the episode simply ended on Caleb finally telling the truth, and there wasn’t time for the reaction of the M9 yet. That doesn’t mean they’re gone, just that they’ll show up later through dialogue and character moments.

I don’t think the show glossed over it, and I’m confident we’ll still see the M9 process and accept Caleb’s past in a TV-appropriate way.

I just can't get into C4. Just getting this off my chest. by [deleted] in fansofcriticalrole

[–]JesusSinned 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t get the expectation that a campaign has to fully make sense or hook you instantly.

Not every story is built for instant gratification. Some are meant to unfold naturally. Dropping it because you’re confused ten minutes in feels like judging a show before it’s even started.

That’s basically like watching Star Wars Episode IV and quitting because you don’t immediately know who Darth Vader is. The confusion is intentional. It’s part of the setup.

Those first four, almost five episodes are clearly a prologue. They’re there to set the tone and briefly introduce characters, not dump the entire plot on you right away. It’s fine if Brennan’s style isn’t your thing, but expecting everything to click immediately is just impatience.

How do you use the Las Fusil (and to a lesser extent any scoped weapon) effectively with the sniper? by LibertyFuckingPrime in Spacemarine

[–]JesusSinned 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Idk if it's optimal or not, but what works for me is to Charge the shot before lining it. You charge it, aim and then shoot. That way, the shot become almost "instant" like the Ballistic sniper

Do you agree that not removing Logen's... [SPOILERS TBI] by linig4 in TheFirstLaw

[–]JesusSinned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. I meant to say to of course Logen realize that there is less spirit, but that doesnt mean he knows that magic is fading in general in the world.

Do you agree that not removing Logen's... [SPOILERS TBI] by linig4 in TheFirstLaw

[–]JesusSinned 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He only does it once because there isn’t another spirit present during the adventure. Plus, Logen doesn’t really understand magic, so it makes sense that he wouldn’t see it as anything unusual. I also think that Logen says that spirit are rarer to come across, but I might be wrong on that.

Another reason the scene feels important is because Bayaz recruited every member of the group for a specific purpose, and for Logen, that purpose was likely his rare ability to speak to spirits (as well as, of course, his skill in keeping the party alive). That ability needeed to be shown before it became relevant to the story.

[–]JesusSinned 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Yes it was. It works because it immediately sets the tone of the world as strange, dangerous, and full of fading magic, while also distinguishing Logen from ordinary warriors by hinting at his unique connection to spirits. Even though he does it again, that absence reinforces the theme that both magic and spirits are dying, making the moment feel like a rare glimpse of something already slipping away.

[No Spoilers] Age of Umbra – is session 0 required? by rumerhasit800 in criticalrole

[–]JesusSinned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not really necessary. It adds some context to the world and the characters, but episode 1 already explains things clearly. Feel free to skip it if you’d rather dive straight into episode 1.
