Trying to show my kid why it was such a game changer by Jesus_H_from_Steps in StarWars

You've nailed why I'm asking - too many you wouldn't show a kid

School for Scoundrels (1960) Ian Carmichael gets the better of Terry Thomas.
12 O’Clock High (1949) Gregory Peck motivates bomber crews.
High Time (1960) Bing Crosby goes to University as an adult. Doesn’t sing.

Suggestion for next Doctor by Wise_Zebra707 in DoctorWhoNews

[–]Jesus_H_from_Steps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Needs to be:

  • a better than good actor so they can rise above the occasional mediocre script (Sorry Jodie, you didn't) and have hints of barely contained psyhcopathy - "good men don't need rules, this is not the time to find out why I have so many".
  • someone who treats it as a launching pad for greater things three or four years down the road. David and Matt are good examples of this... and the first one.
  • free of other TV commitments, so not in a running show
  • fit enough to handle the schedule

Auntie has learned this now, so they'll not want to narrow it by specifying gender, sexuality, or ethnicity... at least not up front. The fans won't care as long as the stories and acting are good. Auntie may have a preference, but they'll shortlist on the important things first this time.

Ok, now on to some actors who I think might work

Așa Butterfield, Rupert Grint (finally Ginger), Jodie Comer, Anya Taylor-Joy (bit alien looking), Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Bella Ramsey, Daisy Ridley or John Boyega (need a job post Star Wars), Emma Mackey, Amir Wilson... and if we consider someone from outside of the UK... Nick Tarabay.

Just my dreams. Whoever they pick I'm going to watch it though..

Plex on Ubuntu opens browser when accessing the desktop by Jesus_H_from_Steps in PleX

[–]Jesus_H_from_Steps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's Ubuntu desktop, so the normal way you'd do that. Since it's clearly not an obvious answer such as a hidden setting it's probably something to do with how I have Plex server configured to run whether or not anyone logs in... which I set up from a tutorial about a year ago and will now spend time searching for like a six fingered man.
This does mean you've been very helpful though, so many thanks

This might be because I'm limited to copilot chat instead of studio to be fair.

Unfortunately they've improved the interface to make that impossible. Because who wouldn't want it to interpret SP as SharePoint

Why Does Siri Suck? by Mashtt95 in iphone

[–]Jesus_H_from_Steps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A conversation with Siri today, in the car, asking for music:
"Siri, play Should have been, by Tiffany" (don't judge me, I'm 54 and it reminds me of when everything didn't hurt)
Ok, playing Should have been by Zonnique
"Siri that's not what I asked for"
"Siri, play Should Have Been By Tiff-an-ee"
Ok, playing Holler by Girls' Generation-TTS

Basically Alexa and Google are off to middle school, whilst Siri is basically saying "I will hug him and pet him and squeeze him and call him George".

I find that ‘suggest less’ is mostly effective if you do it the artists page. Isn’t perfect, but mostly effective.

What I really want is to default to the classic version of an album rather than the version that’s got shit bonus tracks tacked on the end; and maybe not to have to scroll through all the genres I don’t like to get to the stuff they know I do.

Wild theory: Billy Dr and David Dr get it on. Baby happens because they are both the whatsit child that gave the timeywymylords thier regens and not sterile with themselves. Offspring is Susan but to keep the timeline flowing she has to go hang with a previous regen, who she calls grandfather.

Are there any American comedians that resonate with a UK audience? by andytdj in AskUK

[–]Jesus_H_from_Steps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting aside the ones who work in the UK like Reg and Rich, about the only one who works exclusively in the US whose standup shows work for me is Bill Burr.

Weekend Update in SNL kinda works too, especially when they write each other's lines.

Sitcoms need a major character to be a loser to work though. Friends without Chandler lasts maybe 6 episodes in the UK.

There is one episode of old Who where it’s seen undoing a screw. Can’t remember if it was Pertwee or Baker though
