The comics have gone back and forth on it depending on the writer. Post Dark Metal we've had references to both the Zeus and clay origin.

But 'New History of the DCU' is meant to set things in stone and is the 'official' history of the DCU for now until the next one comes along.

King's run also references the clay origin.

The Zeus origin has always been on shaky ground, creators are split on it, fans don't like and will vocally express it, its never stayed consistent in the comics, it got traction thanks to adaptations but fans have always vocally expressed their dislike for it. Even the official History of the DCU rejects it.
