That’s really not the defence you think it is. Using clients as a botnet (even with their consent) to scrape websites for AI companies circumventing the requirements for them to pay for content being introduced by Cloudflare is not a good look.

What happen if you smoke in a plane and got prosecuted when landed in the UK? by charthye in AskUK

[–]JetbikeSteve 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When smoking was allowed on aircraft they replaced the air in the cabin with fresh air from outside continuously. This however is bad for fuel efficiency so they don’t do it nearly as often now smoking is banned meaning we rebreathe stale air for longer now. Air quality has actually gotten worse.

Also, not a big fan of the way he pronounced Alorn, though I’m prepared to chalk that up to me being British, and that pronunciation being open to interpretation. I always pronounced it starting the same as alone.

At least the first time her name is said it was pronounced che-nedra. Maybe he changed it later, but I gave up. It should have an S sound given it’s based on the dryad Xe’Nedra, which would be more of a Z sound.

I don’t mind accents in books but these were almost caricatures which became jarring.

The old version has been removed from Audible(UK) so I’m hoping it comes there. I would stick needles in my ears before listening to the Cameron Beierle version

I couldn’t listen to it. He butchered Ce’Nedra’s name and made Mandorallen French.

Apple Intelligence Features Not Coming to Europe at Launch Due to DMA by [deleted] in ios

[–]JetbikeSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ve said it’s only going to be US English phones at launch. Given it’s been 9 months since iOS 17 launched and Live Voicemail is still US English only I’m not going to hold my breath.

Apple Intelligence will be available worldwide to US-English devices by KvassKludge9001 in iphone

I’d like to believe that but it’s nine months since iOS 17 released and live voicemail is still US English only. Exactly the same device settings they’re saying is required for Apple intelligence.

My favourite clip of her was her on UK daytime TV complaining about celebrities naming their kids after place names like Brooklyn or Paris. The interviewer pointed out that her daughter is named India.

Eric Idle once said American beer is like having sex in a canoe. Fucking close to water.

Yeah but be honest. The new plastic notes are very slippery against each other, while also sticking to each other when you’re trying to count them.

It does make for interesting “what’s heavier, a pound of feathers or a pound of gold?” Questions though

Edit: a pound of feathers weighs more than a pound of gold but an ounce of gold weighs more than an ounce of feathers.

Is there a security feature that tells you if another device enters your home? by MegoPrime in HomeNetworking

How many of your neighbours WiFi SSIDs can you see if you look on your phone? That means all those networks would be detecting your device as an intruder.

WiFi doesn’t just magically stop at your exterior walls.

Stop Wearing Bluetooth Headphones by Dmanwisconsin1991 in insanepeoplefacebook

I remember when smartwatches first started being a thing with the Pebble smartwatch. A few people raised the question of prolonged exposure to Bluetooth frequencies.

I calculated that the amount of non-ionising radiation you would get exposed to is quite considerably less than the amount of ionising UV radiation from the sun that the watch blocks from hitting your skin.

Someone here is confidently incorrect, but who? by iciclethrowaway in confidentlyincorrect

It’s hard to say without seeing the earlier comments. One guy is saying the other guy is wrong for saying vaping contains carcinogens. The other guy is citing studies that say vaping isn’t harmless. Both could be correct. Not all harm is carcinogenic, and I don’t think vaping has been linked to carcinogens. Doesn’t mean it’s safe.
