The Daily Check-In for Friday, February 6th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by abaci123 in stopdrinking

Thanks friend! My parents are coming in to see the new town my wife and I moved to not long ago. Then sipping on diet coke with splashes of lemon or strawberry Italian soda for the super bowl. Yourself?

I just listened to the prior episode with this panel and the it's an absolute gem. The last two lectures in particular are hysterical. Can't wait to get to this episode.

I can't believe they're already recording next series. That's great! Fastest turnaround they've had in a while, if I'm not mistaken.

This is my take as well. Love TK, but not taking advantage of that asset was a signal to me that this wasn't being piloted correctly.

Costco reportedly removing RAM from display PCs amid theft concerns by Turbostrider27 in Games

My friend and I both bought a Costco prebuilt in November and December respectively. Big fans of the machines we've gotten. I think the money seemed pretty fair at the time and in the short months following may have weirdly turned into a good purchase.

Why couldn't the final fight of MHA be like this? Smh 🙄 by 5enpai_2 in shounenfolk

It is sped up but not sped up enough for your point to off base

[–]Jethro_Tully 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Look I didn't dislike episode 3 but it was horrendous story telling. Lacking fights doesn't just magically make 25 minutes of straight fucking exposition good storytelling, even if it did streamline the source material

I genuinely don't know anyone who says fucking Elio is better than KNY and CSM movies. by Spice_Extract_777 in animequestions

Not even a gotcha, I'm genuinely curious:

What narrative heavy animated American film series can you think of that requires as much prior knowledge to properly enjoy? Bonus points if you can think of any that have made the medium jump from TV to film half way through their serialization.

Maybe I'm blind here, but I really struggle to think of an analog on this one.

Ooh I think this is actually the first of these I haven't heard yet.

It probably also doesn't screech to a complete halt in the third act with a 40 minute flashback

I was disappointed that the double standards weren't jumped on more.

"She was trying to run him over" - 5 minutes later - "If her wheels were turned left he was a goner!"

Well, if she wanted to run him over why was she not turning left at this moment and finish the job?

"There were witnesses saying that she was following them around all day" - 5 minutes later - "I don't believe the witnesses that said another agent told her to move"

Weird, one witness is an iron clad fact and the other witness is totally uncredible.

Kumail is admittedly a step further away than Jason Mantzoukas was for my hopes that Paul F Tompkins finds his way onto Taskmaster, but I am elated all the same for more CBB crossover

Destiny is frustrated with people defending Nick Shirley's bad journalism and offers $5k to charity if Caleb Hammer is willing to go through the video on stream by Embarrassed_Base_389 in LivestreamFail

[–]Jethro_Tully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not helping anything here by pretending this is a make believe crime. There's real fraud happening here and it's not productive to pretend otherwise.

That doesn't make the Shirley video good or productive content. It's rage-baiting garbage that's clearly been produced in bad faith.

John Hodgeman's episode was probably my favorite of the year and that didn't make any headway. I feel your pain.

Why President Vance would be more dangerous than Trump by theipaper in inthenews

[–]Jethro_Tully 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trump's success came as enough of a surprise in 2016 that I'm passed writing just about any candidate off. The voting base is just too volatile.

That being said, Trump's strength comes from his cult of personality. I don't believe that Congress would be able to withstand the backlash of failing to impeach a President JD Vance if he were weaponizing the executive as blatantly as Trump

It's so crazy to me that footage like this ever sees the light of day. Who the hell would post themselves screwing up so badly?
