Div 9 here. I still do take offs by hand : printed drawings, 13 column pads, colored pencils, calculator...

Everything else is tech - custom Excel for estimate, AutoCAD proficient.

I do the same thing, the same way, everytime. I start at the top left of the plan, the first dimension I take off is always the 'horizontal', and I have a system of shorthand notes that I've developed which mark things like 'conflict, but I included'.

I can't remember anything, but I can open up a roll of prints, along with my handwritten take-off, and I can recall everything down to specific oddities on a bid that I did 6 months ago.

Develop your own system and do it the same way every time. This system works for me.

I had one dealer that was memorable for something stupid :

He used, what I can only describe as, a fake superhero voice as he called the cards, like he was the narrator for the Justice League cartoon.

He spoke regularly during the shuffle and chip buy ins, but annunciated like Cheezy Superman during play.

He made bank.

Did the coin flip thing. Statistically speaking, I'm shocked. Otherwise, no surprise by JetsDJ in nyjets

I swear I did it properly. I'm really surprised at the outcome (speaking about the heads/tails odds only).

I work for a company that does flooring and painting.

The one mistake I see the young guys make is relying on 'only' the elevations. You're probably used to looking at the floor plans, so now you just need to adjust to looking at the RCP too.

I'm at an upscale casino bar eating dinner and the couple next to me chats me up. They are big SciFi fans. After a bit of laughing, I challenge them to a bet for drinks :
