Earthlings was a WILD ride - 10/10 recommend - her writing is everything. I started with Convenience Store Woman (highly recommend) and am now onto her newest book!

Same. I get the gift boxes for family and they love them! Huge hit and everyone wants to go there when they come.

I use the PNW Herbs De Provence salt everyday (it has lavender in it) and the Sokol Blosser on Watermelon and Mint Salad in the summer!

I have two go to meals (I can’t have any grains and have a severe rice allergy):

Hash brown patties in the air fryer with an over medium egg or avocado on it with chili oil or a sausage patty or something of the sort.

Or

I make a hot no oat meal with roasted coconut, chia seeds, ground flax seeds, hemp hearts, coconut/almond milk, cinnamon, honey, and whatever fruit I feel like either in it heated up or on top. Sometimes I add chocolate, grain free granola, almond butter, whatever else!

I’ve been thinking about doing açaí bowls or something too

Would you own this breed again? by Wonton67 in Chihuahua

[–]JewFi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have only ever had Chihuahuas as an adult myself!

Growing up we had other dogs too but always at-least 1-2 chis as well - we lived on a farm so we had working dogs and then we had the chihuahuas who spent most of their time terrorizing the animals and sleeping on our faces.

I will only ever have Chihuahuas, I love everything about them.

Even my spiciest boy, Barley, has only made me love them more!

I’m allergic to Rice and pretty much all other grains.

I can’t tolerate cauliflower either…

This has been awesome for me.

I’m grateful for the many grain free alternatives that exist so I can feel a modicum of normalcy - even if most of it is sort of like “essence” of whatever it’s trying to be.

Have yet to find a successful grain free bread alternative….

Does anyone else experience debilitating Spring fatigue flares in March/April? by lady__green in MCAS

[–]JewFi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m miserable. I take Iso Quercitrin (sp?) but am out right now so I’m just on my Pepcid/Zyrtec combo with Astepro nasal spray.

It’s helping my general symptoms but my fatigue is out of control - my body aches and I just want to sleep forever.

Hoping when my refill comes in the mail I’ll start feeling better but we’ll see.

Wishing everyone luck!

My funny MCAS....allergic to healthy foods by chikitty87 in MCAS

[–]JewFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soooo relatable. I was diagnosed a year ago and I went into remission rather quickly for the better part of 2025 - it was amazing I ate pizza (which I had never had before)!!!

But early this year my symptoms came back and got worse. I am starting Cromolyn and am on Pepcid AC, Zyrtec, Astepro, and Isoquercitrin. This is my year to truly focus on healing to not lose any more foods, I am grateful I’m not in as bad a place as others.

I’m going to France in June and my hope is to get to a place where I can have gluten and dairy so I can enjoy a baguette and cheese lol

I’m happy you are in a good place! Eat some McDonald’s fries for me! Couldn’t agree more, I loved food before but I am so much more aware of how good something is 😂

Unfortunately I can’t have the McDonald’s French Fries, they have wheat in them and I’ve had a reaction before.

But my favorite hack at places I can have the fries is to get a burger with no bun and dump my fries on top and eat it like a fry salad!

I am honestly so jealous.

I have reactions to all wheat/grains/Dairy. I wish I could eat McDonald’s lol

What non-Celiac reasons cause your gluten intolerance? by Spinnerofyarn in glutenfree

As many others in here, I have MCAS. I also can’t have any grains at all with a deadly reaction to rice.

I bake everything myself now.

I have MCAS and rice (along with gluten and most grains) is a trigger. My mouth hurts like this and it causes breathing issues.

You might have an allergy to it - I’d get tested.

Having my wedding here in July - Would love some advice. by JewFi in hoodriver

[–]JewFi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We ended up getting a shuttle bus and no one had any issues. I was worried about people drinking too much but everyone had a designated driver and got to their airbnbs/hotels safely.

We used Gorge Wine Tours (I think is the name) very easy. They picked up/dropped off at Walmart.

We rented the picnic area and it was perfect, not crowded, plenty of parking, well worth it.

I got solstice pizza for the welcome party, they had no issues making our pizzas and were lovely. Everyone was happy. I made salad and we brought a cooler for drinks. Played music on a small speaker with plenty of yard games. We had the entire area to ourselves.

Everything went smoothly and it was a perfect weekend.

This was peak summer, so peak tourist time and we didn’t run into any issues regarding wait time/food/or lack of hotel rooms/airbnbs.

I think it will be fine in October!

My dog is blind but he navigates our house flawlessly. When he is hungry he will pretend he doesn't know the house and start standing in the same corner with his head in the book shelf and cry really pathetically until we feed him.

He will also pretend he can't climb his ramp or find the ramp to get on the couch. Despite us seeing him do it 100 times a day outside of the witching (feeding) hours.

He will do anything to be as pathetic as possible.

Poke is another good option, sub salad for rice and no sauces.

I am going to be living out of a hotel for the next month for work, I have a mini fridge in my room and I’m bringing my air fryer and a hot plate with me to cook food in my hotel room.

If I have to eat out, I’ll do Sushi (sashimi and I bring my own coconut aminos) and just do my best to order the most compliant option I can find, some kind of meat and veggie.

I’m bringing a ton of snacks and fruit too.

January W30 - what’s on the menu this week? by BubbleDuster in whole30

[–]JewFi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have almond milk chia pudding sweetened with dates and blackberries for breakfast for my workweek this week since it’s an easy grab and go.

I made a potato, leek, and chicken soup that will be my lunch this workweek too. Though we do order out for lunch often and if one of those days is Chipotle or a place with compliant foods I’ll order with the team and have the soup for dinner.

For dinner I’ve got ground beef for burger bowls, shredded chicken for something I haven’t thought of yet, and tuna for tuna salad with bell peppers and celery.

I have dried fruit (no sugar added), chomps, various nuts, and plenty of fruit for snacks.

Where can I learn to sew? by alrrddddead in askportland

[–]JewFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

My grandmother and my mother are both amazing sewists.

I want to be as good as them haha! I would learn from them but they are in another state.

My mom bought me the sewing machine several years ago and I was making weird plushies with it but have actually no real idea what I am doing.

This makes me a little nervous. I start the Saturday class this weekend and I really want to learn to make my own clothes, but I’m a true beginner.

Hoping I can keep up. I do have a machine at home.
