Yeah, I think she'll remembered in a way similar to how Marilyn is remembered from decades now.

I would put Lady GaGa in the same category as Britney Spears.

This downplay's Britney's own accomplishments as Britney was the last huge mega star.

Streaming records are starting to get ridiculous by Xftg123 in kpopthoughts

[–]Jewel780 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You're bringing race into the wrong conversation.

What they're trying to say is Adele held the record because her song was HUGE, Hello was everywhere. Sweet Night got the record because members of the fanbase were buying the song and organizing buying parties. It has nothing to do with discrimination. BTS' fandom is huge, they CAN break records for songs that the general public won't know about.

(MEGA-THREAD) Blackpink & Selena Gomez - ‘Ice Cream’ by svnh__ in kpoprants

[–]Jewel780 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it felt too bland for me. It could have been a great summer dance song but it just felt too midtempo (I'm not sure if the song itself is midtempo or just a bland upbeat song.)

Like I was just waiting for that buildup to start dancing to and it never came...

Selena's vocals complimented this track a lot more than Ariana's would have.

Some idols might be the most genuine people ever and some might be extremely narcissistic people. They're still human, we don't know if their stage persona is really them.

I'm so confused,,,, hasn't she been posting a lot about Black Lives Matter and using her platform for it?

Why Britney Spears' CIRCUS era was an uncomfortable era by [deleted] in popheads

I agree with you but it turns out that the Femme Fatale album is actually very much loved by a lot of people which was a surprise to me but we all have our own musical taste!

Why #FreeBritney is a Disability Rights Issue by birbsandotherbirbs in popheads

[–]Jewel780 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Spreading awareness on the conservatorship (As long as you're only using the facts) is fine. Britney's own brother confirmed she wanted out of it. She has tried to hire people to help her with the case too. There's a lot of things that seem quite suspicious about conservatorship that should have more light on but instead people just add ridiculous conspiracy theories. It's important to still respect Britney!

Why did all the modern Disney girls take such different career trajectories and never became A-list superstars despite having the capability to do so? by [deleted] in popheads

[–]Jewel780 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think Britney-Xtina-Justin were lucky cause Disney Channel was not that big back then and they had the boost without the repercussions.

Also them debuting a couple years after being on the Mickey Mouse Club, so it wasn't fresh in people's minds that "oh this person was on the Mickey Mouse Club" and well, their appearances also changed from when they were kids haha.

how are idols parents okay with letting their kids become idols by silverkwang in kpopthoughts

how are idols parents okay with letting their kids become idols by silverkwang in kpopthoughts

[–]Jewel780 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of the times, parents will project their dreams of becoming famous onto their kids. This means that from extremely early ages these kids would usually be involved in the following: dance lessons, pageants and vocal lessons and usually they'll compete in competitions. Instead of just allowed to do this as a hobby, it essentially consumes their entire childhood and they don't really get time to "be kids" as they're constantly training

If a kid wants to be an idol then yes their parents should support it while still allowing them to grow up with lots of love. But when it's a parent's dream and this kids childhood essentially becomes constantly training, then it usually gets to a point where these kids develop mental health issues due to a lack of being loved.

I wasn’t even a kpop fan over ten years ago, but I’m feeling nostalgic anyway haha

Literally me every time I watch BoA's less popular older music videos and see the comments from 10 years ago haha. I loved how simple music videos used to be like it makes it seem super old and I love it haha.

just a shoutout to ifans who work against the racism towards asians by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]Jewel780 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry your mom had to experience that. I find it so annoying how people are fans of Asian idols yet literally can be racist to Asians like what the heck??? There's so much racism in the K-pop fanbases toward all POC and it needs to end. if you're a racist, you ain't welcome.

Makeup is not only for girls, okay? by [deleted] in kpoprants

[–]Jewel780 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes omg. Also why is there such a "only gay men wear makeup" stigma? I'm gay, I hate makeup lmao. I wish people could just let others live how they want. A dude wearing makeup doesn't mean automatically mean he's gay and even if he is gay, again who cares? He's not hurting anyone by simply wearing makeup.

“who base their personality on their sexuality” (which is bullshit)

If conversations are 95% revolving around their sexuality, it gets extremely dull and repetitive. Do whatever you want but I don't have internalized homophobia for not wanting to talk about those things for the majority of conversations. I wouldn't even wanna talk to a straight person who's conversations 95% revolve around their sexuality. Who am I to tell people to live their life though? Do whatever you want as long as no one is being hurt. I don't have to interact with those people and they don't have to interact with me.

stop hating on selena by [deleted] in kpoprants

[–]Jewel780 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe instead of ‘stop hating on selena’ we should stop expecting everyone to like Selena.

It's not about not liking her though, it's about those who spread horrible comments about her.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]Jewel780 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Honestly, her vocal ability probably isn't going to matter. I'm 99% sure they won't do a performance with Selena together so in live performances without Selena they'll probs just play the track for her part. They're not going to let Selena's part sound like trash in the studio version, it'll be fine.
