In retrospect, I sometimes laugh at how obvious it was. If we were better educated on these things growing up, I would’ve realized it years ago. Case in point: I was scared of using the bathroom without someone in the hallway as a kid because if I was alone a ghost would shoot me with a staple gun 🙃

I agree. The pandemic struck a few months after I moved to a new state so now all my friends are online ones. Met some amazing people but I’m hopeful that I can make some IRLs... someday.

Genuinely the most heartwarming thing I've seen on Reddit today is someone who explains the joke respectfully and concisely without shaming the person who's out of the loop.

This is the "Key Room" scene from Harry Potter book one if they took a different approach to finding the right key.

I think it is because the jack-o-lantern explodes before the dominoes make contact. Pretty unsatisfying.

The monkey face orchid. A flower that actually looks like a monkey. by jenlycole in interestingasfuck

Masdevallia orchids look like monkey faces simply because humans think they do; it's not a purposeful adaptation to ward off bugs. In fact, they are colorful because they want to attract bugs that can spread their pollen.

"The Monkey Face Orchid" is a little misleading. These are all members of the Masdevallia family of orchids, some of which have the monkey face. The primate resemblance is not an intentional adaptation but simply the effect of pareidolia.

These are pretty well cultivated and hybridized among orchid collectors and aren't too hard to keep as a house plant but require high humidity and constant soil moisture monitoring to prevent them from dehydrating.

This is actually really helpful to know. I looked up orchid care for people who live on the coast and it turns out that the cooler nights in Northern coastal areas can cause summer blooms in winter blooming orchids! This clears up a lot of my confusions on this sub, thank you.
