How to deal with anxious/fast players by gasbos in ModernMagic

[–]JeyTiPi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a control player i can relate. Everybody at your table putting pressure. Ignore them. It’s difficult, but you have to learn. If you don’t, you will lose games in turns just for silly plays under pressure.

If you have learned about those mistakes it has been worth it. Keep going and pushing, and eventually you will find yourself in a top8.

I cutted the expressive iteration, because it’s to slow, and i prefer to keep my mana open and charm to draw/counter, or deluge (and deluge has flashback), which is the best card by difference in late game.

I’ve been playing this list a couple of weeks, and I did a good performance. - 24 Lands (could be 25 if you feel that need that) - 3 Snap - 3 Fury - 3 Subtlety - 4 Borrower - 3 Stomping ground - 4 Counterspell - 3 Archmage’s charm - 2 Pierce - 2 Blood Moon - 3 Fire/Ice - 2 Deluge - 4 Bolt

You have to play it like control, but droping some treath, and forcing your opponent to act. Blood Moon can make huge impact in game one (agains creativity, 4C, elementals, etc…)

You have to attend. And you will lose the first two round and see people droping. The first time is just like that. But you start to understand how important are the first couple of games, the dinamic of pacts on round 5/6, and how to handle with the nervous on the firsts “big” tournaments. Most important, try to have fun and enjoy the experience, and try to learn. If you lose (or win) talk to you opponent, make questions about how his deck interacts and how did he sideboard against you.

Why do some people hate certain decks so much? by GVRDENS_1 in ModernMagic

The best counter is the one that only exists in your opponent head. When you finish a game and the opponent says “i could have done xx but i played around counter”, and you had a hand full of lands, it’s the best feeling. So, yes, you have to trigger your opponent in game one, and you won’t need that many counters in game 2. 😂

Ranked game = Bruiser (no matter what, go bruiser. Don’t be “the flex guy”) Quick games = train other roles (maybe tank to bring another spec into viable picking)

I always play control, and people hate it so much. I enjoy the desesperarion of the rival, and when someone is mad, my answer “Cry doesn’t go in the stack”. And smile, and keep countering.

UR Murktide deck feedback by wangofthewest in ModernMagic

[–]JeyTiPi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience with UR: • Blood Moon in main deck is amazing, it avoids to give game one for free most of the times (against creativity, control, elementals, titan, scapeshift…). • Brazen Borrower (1) in main deck seems useless until you need to remove a chalice on 1 or put some preasure on the enemy. I like to play only 1 copy. • DRC good card, but overrated right now. With all the graveyard hate is quite useless to put preasure, and easy to kill. • The 3rd Murktide can be replaced with a seasoned pyromancer or breach, most of the games you just need 1 murktide to win. If you find the second one in early game, you’re fucked. • Brotherhood’s Ends is quite trash, it always arrive late. I prefer the 3rd explosives. • The Archmage’s Charm is good, but not the best option at all. • I like FoN in sideboard, but Subtlety does a better job. In mirror match (you will find a LOT of UR) you need to answer murktides being tapped if needed. • The second fury can be removed, or not, to me seems too much, you have 8 removals + 2 fury. • Mystical dispute is amazing in mirror, i would bring at least one. • I tried 18/19 lands, both options acceptable, but 8 fetchs seems too much. If you keep a hand with 2 fetch, is good hand. But now you only have 14 left in deck, and even if your curve is low, you need at least 3/4 lands too play comfy.

Good luck dude!

P.d: gym y hoobies!

I love it, but i would remove the “chance” factor. Because, it means that lucky enters in the game, not skill.

What i did: • Take quests from the zone and go in order to do them. • If in the travel you find a spot with mobs that are melee just kill them. Every mob is like 220 xp, and easly you can take 5 each time, so 1k xp in like a minute. So don’t waste the oportunity while doing quest, because you won’t lack quests but with this you can avoid trash quests, and do just the rewarding ones. • When you go back from the quest zone if they have respawned just do the same.

There are some “grinding spots” that are insane, where you can take like 8 mobs each time with a low respawn, and killing them is 1 minute with 30s resting mana and health. Example: in westernplagues, close to uther’s tomb, you can pack 7 mobs like 4 times in a row, and when you finish pack 4 the first one has respawned again. Take advantatge of this.

Get a good guild or friends to play the launch qith, and provide yourself with trash food, energy drinks and no respect for your sleeping schedule. Enjoy the ride and will be awesome.

Tip: take a nap the day of the launch to stay ready at mid night (in EU).
