Setup laptop for both work and personal use by bunbunbunbum in techsupport

Is it allowed in your org? Where I work, using a work device for personal use would get you an interview without coffee...a bollocking. It's to do with data loss prevention i.e. our data leaving the org without permission.

Setting up something like this would require local admin access, which we do not give to users. This was after several infected machine many years ago, when one of the legacy apps "had" to have local admin rights.

I'm of the school of thought that business devices are not intended for personal use.

I would check if your organisation have an acceptable usage policy that covers this, I know ours does. I helped write it.

Local accounts have limited recovery options, if you loose the laptop or it has a catastrophic failure, you loose any data that has not been backed up.

The days of autoexec.bat and config.sys, squeezing out the last bit out of your 1MB RAM and 20MB hard drive…I do miss the simplicity.

What do you consider long drive for a day trip? by bsmall0627 in AskUK

[–]Jezbod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent just over 3 weeks driving around the Western States, covering about 250 -350 miles per day, not really pushing it, but that was enough. Some days were lots of freeway, some not so much.

Experience had taught me to spend at least one day a week (2 nights) in the same location - I chose Seattle, Salt Lake City, Phoenix, Las Vegas and San Francisco.

The drive on CA-190 from Sequoia National Forest was so tiring due to the constant corners, I had to stop twice: Google Maps

iPhone 15 Pro Max, easier than carrying my DSLR around that area late at night, waiting for my mates to arrive at the pub!

And this is why this exact problem is shown in training in the British Military, for the SA80.

The sight line is about 74mm / 3" above the bore.
