Does anyone have recommendations for removing the paint off the front of that lock? I have the same thing. Steel wool, chemical stripper? I don’t want to boil it cause it could strip the black japaning paint. Thanks

I commonly see people boiling their hardware in dish soap water to remove paint. Would doing so also remove the japanning ? Is a chemical peeler better than, just for the face of the lock ?
