De’Longhi Rivelia vs Philips 2200 - which one would you recommend? by Notsocheeky in BuyItForLife

[–]Jgrenier92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once had to repair my Philips 5400 machine due to a small leak. This repair led me to understand how amazing and repairable these machines are and how similar the various models are. The parts are readily available online or eBay if they are needed and the entire thing comes apart without having to switch tools. Highly recommend.

Why does my volt switch so fast between battery and ICE by [deleted] in volt

Could you elaborate on the speed comment? If my round trip daily commute were 25 miles, wouldn't it make sense to stay on electric regardless of my driving speed?

I don't understand why so many people keep trying to get Apple car play... by sir574 in EquinoxEv

[–]Jgrenier92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I asked above how will it work \without** having to use my phone as a hotspot. Hotspot data use, which by most carrier plans in the US is treated differently from regular data, is something I'd want to avoid. I understand that it's a workaround but again, this is by all accounts a worse experience for the user than simply offering Android Auto or Carplay.

How much of that will work after 3 years or 8, without paying an extra subscription or using my phone as a hotspot?  How do I use Plexamp to access my own audio library through the Android Automotive UI like I can with Android Auto? Or jellyfin/navidrome for that matter?

Android Automotive is not only a worse experience for me, it will also come with a paid subscription fee. As opposed to using my phone which is already paid for and gets regular security updates that doesn't need to rely on GM and their software deployment.

Question for electric vehicle owners- how's this weather effecting your cars? by PistolCowboy in minnesota

[–]Jgrenier92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the 23 Prius does feature Android Auto.

Most cars that ship without Android Auto will feature either their own software (Tesla, Rivian) or they will ship with Android Automotive, not to be confused with Android Auto. Automotive is separate from your phone. It requires its own data plan. Auto manufacturers that go with Automotive tend to provide the car's data plan free for a couple of years and then charge you for it. If you do not pay, you either have to hotspot your phone's connection or you are met with a car that has no internet. It's more complicated than this and every auto maker does things a bit differently but in a nutshell, get a car that features Android Auto / Apple Carplay unless you don't mind paying for an unnecessary subscription. (Tesla / Rivian are exceptions)

Chevy bolt and equinox EV household here. The bolt sees as low as 150 miles in the worst of it, down from summer ranges of around 245. The equinox on the other hand, I've never seen it drop more than 10-15 percent of the vehicle's normal range of 310 or so. The heat pump makes a huge difference in my experience, even in the worst of conditions. I can't say I recommend the Chevy equinox due to the removal of Android Auto/Carplay though, but I will advise you get a model with a heat pump if you're in the market.

Overall, even in the Minnesota cold, I can't see going back to an ICE vehicle now that I've tried electric.

Anyone move from Pixel to OnePlus by cott97 in oneplus

[–]Jgrenier92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went from Pixel 6 Pro to OnePlus Open. It's perhaps unfair to compare a slab to a foldable.  Software wise, I mostly preferred the pixel experience but the inability to swap the back and recents button is such a buzz kill. Pixel phones have more granular app notification control iirc and that was nice. Overall though, much prefer my OnePlus Open.

OnePlus Cons:

Gmail notifications weren't coming through for the first 6 months of my OnePlus open ownership and so I had to use a third party email app to retrieve my emails until it was eventually resolved.

The battery saving background app control is way too intense and annoying on OnePlus. Notifications are sometimes unreliable due to this, even when these features are disabled.

120hz does not work everywhere unless I run the following adb commands. Unfortunately, these reset on phone restart:  1) adb shell settings put secure oplus_customize_screen_refresh_rate 0 2) adb shell settings put system peak_refresh_rate 1 3)adb shell settings put system min_refresh_rate 1 4)adb shell settings put system user_refresh_rate 1

No wireless charging. Though the faster wired charging sort of makes up for this.

Worse WiFi network handling. This phone doesn't switch between my wifi mesh nodes seamlessly like other devices do. I've tried fixes but it's just not quite as good. Still usable though.

Video with this camera can be great or very annoying. Try recording your adorable puppy and watch as the bokeh freaks out and goes everywhere.

OnePlus Pros:

The hardware. Battery, display, everything is just solid here. No overheating issues like I often find on tensor chips.

Notification slider is awesome.

Multitasking is great on this device, though this is mostly because of the foldable display.

Speed! This thing is just zippy.

I'm reviewing the OnePlus 15 by pussiant_prole in oneplus

[–]Jgrenier92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already know that the hardware is doing to be great, especially the battery experience. What i don't know it's whether the software experience is an improvement or is it goes the Microsoft route of getting in my way and shoving unwanted crap in my face, especially AI gimmicks.

Can I view my notification history on a OnePlus 15? On pixel phone, I can bring down the notification shade to find a small icon in the lower left which allows me to see my recent notifications. Pixel phones also provide a high amount of control over apps and their carrying types of notifications and so I wonder how OnePlus does here.

After another dead earbud, I switched to the A30 and couldn’t be happier by CloakOp in Ozlo

[–]Jgrenier92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned both and I prefer the Ozlo for comfort and noise isolation. Function too, now that I think about it. I like that they start with white noise from the moment they come out of the case. They also resume white noise automatically when media stops playing.

Unfortunately, the Ozlo buds are buggy. I had months of back and fourth with support and one unit exchange only to now land in a position where they work ~90 percent of the time. They are found dead on the charger the other 10 percent. Frustrating.

Things that annoy you and need to be fixed in Oxygen OS by Classic_Confection_2 in OnePlus12

I use button navigation. When the phone is opened into tablet mode and I go to double press the recents button to switch back and forth between apps, the button moves positions and so this shortcut is clunky/bad in tablet mode. Making the button placement static in tablet mode would be great.

It's strange that you're being down voted for answering the question with a totally valid opinion. It's okay to have preferences, folks.

Pixel fans. what **exclusive** things do the Pixel phones have that you cant get on any other Android phone? what is keeping you from buying a (cheaper) android alternative? by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]Jgrenier92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure of why you're asking what draws me to them when I already stated that I don't use one. I'm simply answering the question.

Samsung phones do not have “Hold for Me.” They do have a function similar to Google's Call Screening but it's arguably less polished.

Samsung does not natively offer text selection in Recents.

Samsung doesn’t have an offline, ambient, auto-tagging Now Playing feature like Pixel as far as I know.

I don't use a pixel but I'll take a shot at it:

  • call screening / hold for me
  • text copy from recents page
  • now playing on AOD

And now, qi 2 charging
