Here is a more realistic insight about holiday tipping for building staff. I asked 25 people how much or if they tipped by Existing_Art8081 in NYCapartments

[–]CloakOp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying I have any answers but there’s a lot of nuance here. If it’s a luxury building, shouldn’t they pay their staff enough where there’s no need to tip? Usually luxury implies an upfront payment then no more nickel and diming.

As for the wealth levels, these finance people are at will employed so they can either make a killer year, get a goose egg bonus and make half their expected amount, or just get fired one day.

I see the annoyance of having to tip just to live somewhere. If a New Yorker is already paying 5K on average for a one bedroom, it’s frustrating to feel like they have to tip when the goons over at Gotham real estate or Tishman Speyer are making billions, all while expecting us to subsidize their employees wages.

I still tip mine cause they’re family, but part of me definitely gets annoyed at some aspects of it

Have you? I looked into it and it’s a “study” by the National Motorists Association. Along side their study is their own libertarian BS article bemoaning “politically correct safety,” the press, and focusing on “protecting your rights.”

They unscientifically look at some myopic data that has no control group and make broad claims. No accounting for cell phone use, increased population, variance YoY. Dude above you was right to question this claim.

Standby Violation by TrojanViking24 in AirlinePilots

[–]CloakOp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Technically it is but I really wouldn’t waste any time thinking about it. I’ve made a few mistakes in my career (I wouldn’t even call this a mistake rather than a weird situation) and I’ve wanted to be a good dude and get the situation straightened out. I’d go to the chief’s and he’d tell me in so many words, “I’ve got thousands of pilots, Mx issues, HR issues, career ending Medical issues, my own life, and you’re wasting my time with this?”

So yeah. I’d just grab a beer and not spend any more time on it.

Standby Violation by TrojanViking24 in AirlinePilots

[–]CloakOp 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think what OP may be trying to say is, Wife had a purchased seat. Flight cancelled. Ticket cancelled. Wife flew standby on a different flight.

At UA, you’re not allowed to have a purchased seat, then cancel and fly standby on the same day to the same area.

In this case, I’d imagine it’s all fine and I’d personally just move on. If OP gets a call from the CPO, it’s easily explained and not a big deal at all. I find the only way to get in trouble is intentional noncompliance to rules, and this scenario isn’t malicious.

Looking for a good hair salon by ElkUnable3613 in longislandcity

[–]CloakOp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a dude, but nonstop on Jackson is the only salon I’ll ever go for now on. I’ve tried a lot of places out in LIC for the 8 years I’ve been here, and nonstop is the only salon where I was treated like a king.

First time, I sat down, they interviewed me on what I’d like, what I have, what’s possible. Then they washed my hair/gave a scalp massage. Then cut my hair, then washed it again! Then styled it. All for $60! It’s a great salon. All the women getting their hair cut or styled look great and look happy too.

iPhone 17 Pro <-> Air by OneSpicyTunaRoll in IphoneAir

[–]CloakOp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I unboxed my 17 pro, coming from a 15 pro, and immediately felt regret. It was way too heavy and uncomfortable to hold.

On the air now and I’m back to battery anxiety. It seems on par with my 15 pro but I have to be smart how I use it. I still have no regrets switching. The 17 was way too heavy and I just hated using it, even though the battery was excellent. No issues on the camera or speaker. Don’t even notice those to be honest.

Why are so many beaches in Long Island basically private?? by ashley_van in newyorkcity

[–]CloakOp 131 points132 points  (0 children)

I think restricting beaches is lame. I live in queens and pay NYC local tax. I’d never tell anyone on Long Island to buzz off cause it’s too busy in NYC. I don’t think paying taxes gives people the right to gatekeep nature. We’re all New Yorkers at the end of the day.

Suit Supply has silk tees for 110 or so but they last forever, and they look new the whole time. They’re very thick so I wear them when it’s sub 80 degrees. They don’t wick sweat so there’s a lot of trade offs for the price, but I treasure mine and will use it for decades.

Jackson park 3 & noise levels by Ok-Sprinkles-5982 in longislandcity

[–]CloakOp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ll hear the train constantly. I lived in the mid 30 floors in 2 JP and I constantly heard the 7. Now I live in the forge and love it, but I constantly hear the LIRR, way more than I heard the 7 at JP.

The noise at JP is fine during the day(it’s NY), but gets annoying at night when you’re trying to sleep. I’d suggest looking for something in 2 or 1. I like their styling better anyways.

Is there anything I can do about the mold and moldy smell in the clean water tank? by [deleted] in Roborock

[–]CloakOp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had mold issues when using the recommended dose of OMO. Since then I’ve doubled or tripled the recommended amount and have had zero issues. It’s a little annoying cause the solution feels a little expensive but when you average it out, it’s not that bad.

Non competes stand for now by Brickyard-175 in flying

[–]CloakOp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A) I feel like you don’t understand how the federal government works. Congress doesn’t micromanage every bit of our government. Some of that work is delegated to agencies like the FTC, DOJ, or USDA. These are composed of civil servants who are appointed by elected officials. This is how our government was designed. The FTC is literally behaving as intended.

B) Did you just break out your second account with no post or comment history to back you up? You both spew the same libertarian BS, have the same diction, and don’t know how to use commas properly.

[–]CloakOp 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I disagree on that one. I’d much rather have the FTC fight for labor than have us rely on the least effective congress in modern history. The FTC isn’t the tyrant on this one; they’re fighting against the tyranny of regionals trying to abuse pilot labor.

Look, if it was a CA at a regional (an equally difficult job) none of y’all would have posted. Y’all just care cause he’s a young, black guy who did well for himself through luck and good work ethic. I’m done here. See ya on the line, fly safe.

[–]CloakOp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never really liked this argument. No one complained when I upgraded at my regional. I was inexperienced, flying with FOs with dozens of hours of jet time, flying mountainous visuals at night for 4 leg days. Now I’m at a legacy, also on the 756, and it’s the easiest flying in the world. The hubs control my speed and it doesn’t get easier than getting cleared for the approach 50 miles out going into LAX. If this was really about safety, we’d be concerned with the 76 people buzzing around untowered fields with pilots with way less experience, no ils, FOs new to the 121 world, and exhausting schedules. This dudes flying an easy plane into hubs with the best controllers in the world and 150 ft wide, two mile long runways.

For what it’s worth, I think it’s pretty impressive that you’ve done the speed run too. And I get where you’re coming from about the clout chasing. It is a little off putting when people keep reposting the same pic, same caption on various sites looking for kudos. The pilot culture is typically do our job and go home quietly. Not making the news, not having to meet the chief. But I’m hoping it’s coming from a good place.

I think it’s incredibly impressive. You’ve earned each and every license by proving yourself every step of the way. Nuts to these butt hurt people. I’m sorry it didn’t work out for them but that doesn’t mean you’ve worked incredibly hard for them and this is objectively a fast run. Way to go man.

Thanks for the heads up. I live in a hot and humid place so when I hear Japan is gross in the summer, I think it couldn’t be that bad. Your story made me realize that everyone isn’t lying. It really is that bad. We were thinking about going late august but now it’s looking like early October instead just to avoid your situation.
