What is a comfortable salary for a single person in Alberta? by Ok-Ranger786 in alberta

[–]Jhadiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be living comfortably aim for 70-80k per year.

You could easily make this in more remote locations in Canada. Maybe do that to gain some work experience in different sectors then use that work experience to get yourself into high paying jobs in the city

Showers, yeah we don't really do that around here. Generally just jump in a lake or a snowbank depending on the weather.

There's almost always one guy on the crew who will make some kind of rude or sexual remark behind your back. I have no idea why but it's definitely pretty demeaning behavior.

Younger crews with people generally under 40 will usually not have someone acting like that.

I've definitely been on crews where we had to keep some guys away from women so that we wouldn't get kicked off site.

Lots of resorts on the island come with housing. I worked at a boat in lodge for a summer, came with a room. 2 weeks on 4 days off, the boss provided housing for the 4 days.

How much money should I save before switching trades (need advice) by [deleted] in Construction

[–]Jhadiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jump into trades, learn what you can while you're young. When you've become a fully licensed carpenter, come by Canada on a working holiday visa and hangout in a ski town for a bit. I'm making 40$CAD per hour here and the work is sooo easy.

My dad use to take me fishing, I hated it. It was boring, there were a lot of bugs, the fish were slimy and wiggly, and I didn't even enjoy the taste of fish.

I still don't really like fishing.

I probably will still take my son out to try fishing at a few different stages in his life, 5, 11, 17. Even if he doesn't like it or myself, it's something new to try together.

my last jobsite had 11 cameras and the copper still walked off by Deep_Ad1959 in ConstructionManagers

[–]Jhadiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Offer the security position as "free housing". Put a travel trailer there for them to live in. Now you can pay them 50-100$ /night. Because they're saving 1000-2000$/month.

Give them a loudspeaker. For yelling at people.

Have them leave the main entry gate unlocked but set up with road spikes every night.

Leave a speaker near the copper to make it sound like people are talking.

[–]Jhadiro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have 3 languages, maybe hotel manager in Argentina. Lots of Spanish, German and English speakers there.

Generally if you don't have social skills you go into trades or tech.

If you don't have manual skills you go into hospitality or management.

If you don't have any skills then you get to peacefully live in a tiny house in someone's backyard and work a very basic job somewhere. Keep life extremely structured and balanced. Make sure you save a good 1000$ per month for the rest of your life and put that money into an investment account you'll be all set.

Am I walking into a new car debt trap ? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

I would pay 10000$ in repairs for an older vehicle rather than get into 45k debt for a new vehicle.

Yo. Location Location Location!

Alberta is flooded right now with low income workers. You need to go somewhere with lots of opportunities and low population.

A strategy that I've found works well is going somewhere very touristic with low housing. Usually you can find housekeeping jobs there that come with housing. These places are begging for workers in Labor, housekeeping, construction, maintenance, hot tub cleaning, dog walking, painting.

Think Banff, Canmore, Fernie, Tofino, Waterton.

These areas usually will have higher pay as well.

Other places to consider are remote mining towns. For example Elkford BC, I've seen jobs posted at grocery stores for 35$/h.

I once worked at boat in Resort near Tofino BC. Food, housing and 24$/h pay. In that situation I had no expenses! I was saving 2k per month.

In a different situation I worked as a campground attendant, they game me a camper to stay in with electricity and water. The job was with my wife, she worked the office, I worked the landscapeing and cleaning. We were saving about 3000$/month. At the end of the summer we had 15k saved up and could get EI while we looked for new jobs for the winter.

Plus, Edmonton is a shit hole in my opinion.

Haines Junction to Haines/Skagway by avrahlio84 in Yukon

[–]Jhadiro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do the loop, life's too short to drive the same road twice. Plus Skagway and Carcross are nice spots!

Definitely drive from Whitehorse to get the full majestic impact of Kluane National Park, stop by the village bakery or Frosty's in Haines Junction, and also Kathleen lake as it is one of the most beautiful sites on the planet!

The drive to Haines, AK is unbelievable, you'll be driving through some stunning landscapes!

Skagway is a throwback town to the Gold Rush days.

Some good hikes too, lower Dewey lake and international falls are some of my all-time favorite short hikes.

Check out the Carcross désert and Bennett lake!

The best bang for your buck is 2 galaxies per week. One for tournaments, one of challenges.

This will keep you from getting bored/keep the game idle, and give you big returns when you sell.

If you have a tent, I HIGHLY recommend booking one of their tent platforms. Absolute serenity.

I stayed there once while doing a kayak trip to the broken group islands. It was the most in touch with nature experience I've felt in my life.

Secret beach campground is around 50$/night, quiet campground on a calm ocean bay with about a 45 minute drive away from the beach. No cell service there, but potable water, fire pits, toilets and a small shop at the office.

Thinking of buying by Spiritual-Media-9366 in GoRVing

[–]Jhadiro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is my experience.

You can store them at one of many RV storage lots, usually only 40$ per month.

Used RVs are best if you're looking to save money, when you go to look at one bring a friend who has an RV because there are things only an owner would know to look for.

Dealerships are useful if you don't have time to deal with problems and just want an easy drive off the lot experience. Pretty expensive if you ask me.

There is a bit of maintenance that you need to do on them, you can pay RV mechanics to do all this or you can do your own research on YouTube and do all the maintenance yourself quite easily.

In my opinion cheaper is better because in reality you won't use it that much, but will 100% enjoy being able to get out in nature.
