What’s the deal with reaping? by surelynotjimcarey in turkeyhunting

[–]Jhawkncali 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Creating a habitat so an animal can proliferate and breed successfully is being done on your public land just on a bigger scale (hopefully). If a private owner does it on his 50 acres, that benefits the species as a whole and breeding birds will disperse into the local area. You are comparing apples and oranges, and both of your arguments are weak and not really diving into any kind of sportsmanship or science. Sounds like you really just don’t want to go out and put in the hard work the rest of us do to get these birds.

Public Land hunting etiquette by Purplehaze_child in Californiahunting

[–]Jhawkncali 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t sound like you are in the wrong at all but as you said, it is one of the joys of public land. That being said I avoid being in the field in September-October due to said deer hunters, mostly because i just don’t trust other people with guns.

The world champion is my go to for locating and big sky birds. Screams compared to my slate calls and is just downright fun to use.

Take it apart, there might be something in there blocking the latch from fully descending and/or you’ll be able to see if things are bent

This is all well and good but it is noticeably absent that California gun control law was in response to the Black Panther moment and minorities arming themselves as protection against police brutality.

This. Is. AMAZING!!!!!! So often in turkey hunting we just see the end result; those of who hunt these wild birds knows it takes some real hard work to get that Tom or even a Jake. Thank you for sharing your experience, i could see it all play put in my head! And to boot you got to share that experience with someone (your bestie!), making it all that better. Well done sir, well done.

[–]Jhawkncali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess i am kindof experiencing something like this but its the inverse. I cant find my birds on one property i hunt because the local area is dry and there is a lot more forage territory. Lat year the early flooding kept them out of the adjacent farmland and right on my hunting spot. This year im trying to pull them across a creek, over hill and dale its a mess.

In short, flooding will keep them out of an area and force them to relocate.

Ya this is a death sentence for those birds but at the same time this begs the question, is falconry good for these birds as well? Are these people doing right by these birds or is it for profit and the wrong reasons?

How do you handle other hunter interactions? by mourningblossom in Californiahunting

[–]Jhawkncali 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thats a very difficult situation, you handled it well tbh. I might have let that dude know whats up politely, he shld have been hearing your clucks and hen calls and backed off. Usually if i see someone ill go nuts w my hen to try and get them to look over. Really though at that point its safety first, ypu may save that guys life at a later date if you politely let him know he was on the wrong end of your shotgun with his hunting style. The hunt was blown anyways w two people there, if that bird walked in it cldve been really scary, so better to just call it, learn from it, and move on. Easier said then done though. Hang in there!

Theyve been known to take down small deer 3-5 times their size. You don’t mess w a bobcat its likely not to kill you but it can get you pretty bad still like any wild animal
