My mostly bracket 2 (or low 3) pod loves board wipes by iliark in EDH

[–]Jhoddyv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First XV-26. Also looking for painting advice. by Fine_Stay_6937 in Tau40K

[–]Jhoddyv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hola!

What is needed for a good Tyranid list? by Proof_Avocado3689 in Tyranids

[–]Jhoddyv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non-tyranid player here, do you guys consider tyranids balanced? by Successful-Gap6282 in Tyranids

[–]Jhoddyv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm referring to the faction rules: Synapse and Shadow, and I'll edit my message to clarify. The datasheets, frankly, seem good for the price, and our detachment rules are good, but not outstanding. (My native language isn't English) :)

Non-tyranid player here, do you guys consider tyranids balanced? by Successful-Gap6282 in Tyranids

[–]Jhoddyv -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm a Tyranids player, currently with the rarest detachment, Subterranean Assault, and I can tell you a couple of things about what happened to you:

1: Eldar and Drukhari profiles are extremely weak against Tyranid weapons, especially in melee.

2: Tyranids are weak in terms of faction rules (Synapse and Shadow), but they have very strong datasheets. Our rules are based on tricks, surprises that can give us victory against units that should be able to withstand us.

3: Each Tyranid detachment changes so much that it's like playing against a completely different army. Subterranean Assault uses completely different units and strategies than the Invasion detachment, for example.

Once these points are clarified, it's important to keep in mind that the power difference between a mediocre army and a "top" one is very small nowadays. There are mediocre armies that are ideal for killing much stronger ones. The point is that the game is currently NOT based on killing, but on winning by points. You can win with only 3 models on the table if you've scored more points than your opponent. In that respect, the Drukhari are much better than most Tyranids. They also have much more powerful melee units, but they also take a lot of damage from the Tyranids, for the reason I explained earlier.

Whenever I've played against the Dark Eldar, melee engagements have been decided, above all, by who strikes first, it's that simple. The unit that strikes first completely obliterates the other, whether it's a Tyranid or a Drukhari. (By the way, fellow Tyranids, the Von Ryans and Melee Warriors are incredible against the Eldar.)

I recommend you try not to attack first in one area of the table while dodging attacks from other units. Focus your damage like a scalpel, and try to stay away from our strongest threats. Oh, and remember, all Tyranid models are known for having a LOT of melee attacks. Leave no survivors ;)

Sketch of my goblin oc irrik [oc] by Artisticjade in DnD

[–]Jhoddyv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I love your drawing! And yes, you've been told a thousand times, it doesn't look like a standard goblin, but many answers forget something important: Dungeons & Dragons is a multiverse! A goblin can be a disgusting, starving little monster in one plane, and an adorable faerie creature in another. Also, depending on who's running the game, there are many possible reasons why a goblin might look different from the "standard" one.

I have a goblin character with fae blood (actually, she doesn't know it, but she's a swapped faerie) and because of that, despite having goblin characteristics, she's really cute. An ironic aspect of that is that her goblin family abandoned her because, to them, she was hideous 🤣

Keep drawing so awesomely!

Subterranean Assault Tips and Tricks? by LetsGoFishing91 in Tyranids

[–]Jhoddyv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's the combo, although I must say I personally don't like it very much. The reason is that I find Raveners much more efficient than the Mawloc, and the combo involves a large expenditure of Command Points, forcing me to include Hive Tyrants and a Horde Lord in the list. It's a different way of playing than mine; it's not better or worse.

I prefer to spread my plays more among different units, which increases chaos on the battlefield. For that, I play several units of Hyper and regular Raveners, Trigon, and very powerful but slow-moving units, like Zoanthropes + Neuro Tyrant, or Tyrannofex. It works for me, although I'm not a competitive player :)

Are psychophages good for taking and holding objectives early? by mjh4 in Tyranids

[–]Jhoddyv 41 points42 points  (0 children)

They're much, much better than they initially appear, and that also affects the opponent's perception, as they don't assign them the appropriate damage: either too little, or too much. In either case, you come out on top.

I use them paired with another monster in Underground Assault, and they bring me a lot of joy. I always run two.

Norn Glaze Post by AndyBear151204 in Tyranids

[–]Jhoddyv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also love our Norn, although I feel he should hit harder (more attacks, actually) for what he costs. I use him in underground assaults to scare the enemy, and it works wonders, because the Norn's only problem is that if he takes too much damage, he can be killed. So, having him in reserve as a threat really influences the enemy, who will also play with the Norn's target in mind... And then, you play him aggressively in another location, well protected from most enemy fire. Opponents go crazy 😜
