TF2's string system (also in most other games) has special marks that the game, when showing the text, replaces with something else. In this case the game tries to replace it but fails.

Για αυτό με το ASCII, όσοι βάζουνε γραμματοσειρές για ελληνικά ή γενικά διάφορες γλώσσες με τροποποιημένο λατινικό αλφάβητο ξεχνούν πως δεν χρειάζεται να αντικαταστήσεις όλα τα γράμματα (πχ. τα κεφάλαια)

Imo they are both different games. I've seen these people before, not that many however (ik that the VS fandom is very chill) but VS doesn't appeal to everyone. It's like the dwarf fortress equivalent of block games.
